  • I could be way off, but I was told that the DEAD stopped playing the song because Bobby chose too and that it may referred to or hinted at Bobbys "brief" stint with bi-sexuality during the early to mid 80's. Not that theres anything wrong with that. Also, I always thought he said "where is the DARKSTAR?" but it was actually writtten "DOG STAR" the star of sirius, a navigational star or tool used by old time sailors bc of its gleaming brightness in the sky . take care.

  • @SuperCJOHNSTON

wow you are on it all true.....

  • Why dd they stop performing this song? I always thought it was one of Bobby's better ones. I know the reason they stopped playing Passenger (because the guy who wrote it for them died - his son told me this once backstage), but I never learned why they stopped playing this one. Anyone know?

  • @MayorMichaelShell They stopped Playing It...? When?

  • nice lost sailor

  • I miss you so much. If you get this, I would like to talk to you, that is if you are willing or able, about getting some of your vids. Thers probably nothing tradable I can offer you that you dont have but Id be willing to barter or something. let me know if you get this

  • Wha??? Jerry's right back there just right of center screen, hunched and rocking back and forth. If this was 04' the lights would be moving, Morpheus invented mass prodution moving lights and they worked spreifically with the Dead. The early 80's were my favorite time period for the Dead.

  • thank you (kindly) for pointing that out...my eyes are going as well. my hearing loss unfortunately means that I can't hear parts of jerry's voice or guitar anymore =( i can't hear on those frequencies. s'what i get for standing in front of the speakers in the phil zone for 15 years (i can still hear it in my head though!)

  • from donnabonadonna on vid date incorrect bust new footage from the vid we've had for years ...very nice

  • Cool! Thanks. I didn't know this was the last Lost Sailor. I was there and I also saw it performed in Richmond, 1985.

  • I agree, I am sure that I saw sailor/saint several times after 84...but I have to agree with burnsy403 - i don't think this is jerry period, the stage setup is wrong, the licks are wrong and bobby's voice sounds older. Nice clip though.

  • This is from 86, not 84 - and they continued to play Saint of Circumstance long after they stopped playing Lost Sailor (I saw a Saint in Miami in Spring of 94, I believe) - without checking with a Deadbase or some set list online I wouldn't pretend to be definitive - I would have guessed the last one was 89 or 90. I am about 98% sure that they never played Sailor without Brent.

  • Saint was played many times with Vince, I know i saw it at Buckeye lake in i believe '91. I remember not liking one of Vince's keyboard licks on EVERY version i saw them do with him

  • this is the last one

    according to annotated dead

  • are you deaf? that is clearly jerry, the stage setup is totally normal for 86, i have this show on disc. it is indeed 3/24/86 Philly Spectrum-many of my friends were there

  • sorry....then i must've been really messed up cuz i was at that show too. and yes, i am losing my hearing.

  • saw this in '04 (lol,I know), another gem. thanks for posting.

  • AWESOME thanks for putting this on - nice crowd ambience. I think this show is 3/24/86 not 3/27/86 but thanks again
