I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada in the early 90s, and the only radio station that would play this was a grunge rock alternative station that would mix this in between Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains! That's how I discovered New Order, Erasure, PSB, etc. Those were the days. Now all you hear is 70s rock or Lady Gaga on corporate radio in America, yuck!

RE: comments about the release year. It's one of my favourite songs of all time and I remember it from Jan/Feb 1990 and am positive this is when it charted in the UK. May well have been released at the end of 89 but it absolutely has to be classed as a nineties classic. :-)

I think "Electronic" is some sort of an 'experimental' band that Bernard Sumner tried to form with Johnny Marr, for which Neil Tennant got involved to help launch it. He did ended up bringing Chris Lowe into the Electronic project, though Chris' involvement is not as extensive as Neil's. (NO, the two were never on a 'break' from the Pet Shop Boys!) This song is their debut single in 1989.

I have to say though: while Sumner is "supposedly" the Lead Singer here, Neil Tennant made it "work".
