Bidú Sayão - Madama Butterfly

Wow, this is good...I had never heard of this woman (maybe her name somewhere along the way, but nothing really about her) or her singing till a video posting here showed up in the suggestion column at the right while I was watching another video. (The beauty of YouTube University!...one thing leads to another.) This has to be one of the all-time best interpretations of this aria. And she never did the full operatic role of Madama Butterfly why, exactly?

@Rotebuehl1 - Thank you so much, my friend for this lovely video, which not only contains a marvelous aria & the incomparable voice of Bidu Sayao, but also takes me into a special trip down memory lane: to my childhood -when I was a toddler I often was exposed to the music of Puccini, as he is my aunt's favorite composer & Madame Butterfly her favorite record. Quando criança, me lembro do meu pai ouvindo a Bidu e dizia que ela era a melhor cantora e me incentivava a gostar de música lírica, foi quando eu aprendi a gostar de Bidu Sayão .Obrigada pelo presente, Florpolonesa.

Lembro-me de uma entrevista de Budú Sayão onde ela fala sobre Madama Butterfly ser uma das óperas que mais a emocionava e de Cio-cio-san ser um de seus papéis favoritos.

Fico extasiado em ver este vídeo, ela é soberba, grande técnica, boa interpretação, uma verdadeira Diva.

A magistral obra de puccini , é envolvente , cantada por BIDU SAYÃO , esta ária tem dois desenvolvimentos cadência e , escala , onde as notas são dificeis , mais a interpretação não perde em beleza e elegância , em seu final exige-se da orquestra e da cantora em tutti e pizzicato , belissimo !!!

triste é saber que só a conheci de verdade quando a beijar flor a apresentou como enredo, na quadra em nilopolis, tinham pessoas que achavam que ela era esposa de algum capo do bicho, pois nunca ouviram falar dessa senhora, pobre país que precisa de uma escola de samba para nos apresentar a maior cantora lirica.

The problem is that the Brazilians love and incentive funk and some other kinds of shit, and forget the great composers and singers that we have and had, like Villa-Lobos e Sayão.

The more I hear Bidu Sayao and Lily Pons, I wish I could take one or two trips back to the old Met when they were in their prime. Bidu just transforms anything she does with the clearness of her voice. I didn't think she'd handle this well, but she does. Granted, it would be a rough role for her over an entire opera, but I wouldn't put anything past her.

I love her way of interpreting anything! Those beautiful eyes, the almost talking-like singing, the imediacy, everything comes off naturally and with great effect. She once said she was horrified when she knew she could never sing Desdemona and Cio-Cio-San. As for me, I do think she could've been a most touching and beautiful Butterfly, the size wouldn't matter when there's such an incredible talent to offer.
