ive seen similar to this twice whilst traveling on I95 in north carolina, once heading south the other heading north. The first time i didnt actual see the meteorite but like in this vid the sky all of a sudden turn to day almost like someone fliped a switch. I tried to reason out what happened but nothing made sense until i saw this vid. The second time i did see the meteor cascading and illuminating the clouds, incredible site but a bit scary as well. as you sit and wait for the boom.

@KatRocker227 the police man that saw it said it was Hellascarry. But your warm on the impact and recovery part but a little off. First the bright flash that you see is the main rock breaking up but the pieces are still moving that's called "Dark Flight" so you dont see it yes they did impact. But since they are pieces not all will be found. Hope this helped

Sorry but that is not a meteor it is in fact the remains of a Russian spy satellite that malfunctioned. The Russian's destroyed it and what you see in this video is one of the larger pieces re-entering earth's atmosphere.

There are two possible answers to that:

1) It went behind the clouds for a second or two, and merely appeared to slow down.

2)Most objects that enter our atmosphere are already going faster than their terminal velocity. Therefore, the air resistance they started hitting after they left the void of space started gradually slowing them down. Air resistance is also the reason they glow so bright--that much friction creates immense amounts of heat.
