  • Thanks. One of the small things that's been going on a lot at our school is a number of people getting into lockdowns. Most of our guys are advanced enough to pass it eventually, but this will help for positioning and control. It also hleps me, as I'm a novice, and lockdown is a staple of mine (usually my primary defense when the advanced students/teachers pass my full guard). Watching this, I will also have ideas on how to keep them from passing as well as they usually do. Thanks again.

  • just out of curiosity why capoeira?

  • @SOADfan1825 haha idk. but Eddie makes a lot of stupid names just so you know what he's talking about. Mission control? New York? Kung Fu Move? All stupid names but they're used in a way so that the system is organized.

  • i love the names of the position and moves lol c cup hahahahahahahaha

  • jiu jitsu is alot like chess

  • @92845756 except without the broken limbs or passing out when you loose.

  • yeah:)

  • luv this

  • Alot of good comments on here....thnank you guys for keeping it mature and not acting like kids..... nice info in the vid and comments

  • that overhook stuff is less efficient... i saw alder demonstrating it and eddie asking about the overhook, and eddie just wouldn't buy his explanation. the reason the overhook is bad is because you are pinning that arm anyway with your back, you're laying on it. he escapes by hip escaping away from you, it's his only option. you prevent that by driving your shoulder into his face. holding his wrist will prevent him from coming up directly, but that's not what he should be doing.

  • eddie explains things so well ..people at judo are getting caught from my lockdown and I can just sweep at will ..thanks

  • how old were you when you started bjj

  • I was seventeen when I started Brazilain Jiu Jtisu under world champion Cassio Werneck in Sacramento, CA.

  • Im 32 now.

  • got any links to your stuff sounds like your really good. Iam doing my first comp on sat.

  • Eddie is the man

  • Yes, he is the man to everyone newb out there. There is so much more to the pass not covered by Joe Rogans bag carrier.

  • Go on then tell me more then?

  • ok, where to start?

Well, at a quick glance back at the video I see him trying for a kimura sub with his hips in the wrong direction. That's pretty funny.

Secondly theres no mention of pressure placement or weight distribution for the technique.

And lastly this clown made his fame of beating Royler at ADCC many years ago. He was getting beat pretty bad before a lucky submission via triangle. If you watch his match after Royler he gets raped by some one Rolyer man handles regularly.

  • A good instructor never teaches the technique and the defense to the technique in the same day. It doesn't give the students the opportunity to practice that technique with effectiveness on their peers. I can go on, but I wont because I must go train. Eddie is a god to noobs, but so is a purple belt. Ignorance is this guys greatest marketing tool.

  • so where are all of your instuctional videos then?

  • Watch some of my competitions. Im sure you'll learn a lot. Just as I probably would from you watching yours. Jiu Jitsu is a constantly changing sport forced to evolve from it's sheer number of participants. Dont be guided like a sheep believing in people who claim to have invented and then rename techniques that have been around before the conception of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

  • It's just the seminar environment. I got taught a bunch of triangle and omoplata flows and defenses last time Royce came for a seminar. It's just about not leaving a guy with only part of a game, and giving him the options to fight the common defenses.

  • oh the video answered my question. sorry i didnt finish it first before asking. hehe

  • I have a question. when eddie turned to the other side, what if the guy below continues the turn and pushes eddie so the guy will end up on a side mount?

  • dont know much about BJJ, but if the guy below would continue to turn and get to side mount i think eddie would also just continue to turn and get to side mount also.

  • yea he would if bottom guy anticipated it....look at :50 sec

  • Great ending

  • always 5 stars.

  • when he's doing to twister pass couldn't the guy on the bottom just grab his leg/foot/gi or just go inside his leg for electric chair?

  • I Love Eddie bravos explanations for each sweep and technique, he is the best at making it easier for the beginner...MUCH LOVE FROM NALEDGE & ~DIESEL BJJ~

cant wait to see more ;)

  • great, but why is it called "capoiera sweep" ?

  • Because it looks a lot like a sweeping capo kick.

  • love the last few seconds of the video where theres resistance. eddies technique is so evident there. impressive to say the least.

  • Hey I train under Jorge Gurgel and Eddie is one of the BEST! I like how he shows against a resisting opponent as well as a willing one. His names for all the moves and positions are Incredible and lend some humor to an otherwise die hard sport!

  • that counter hapens to me when i go for the 50/50 in dogfight

  • Eddie Bravo is a legend dudes.

  • why is it called capoiera sweep? i don't see any aspect of capoiera.

  • either beacuse capoeira is basicly leg sweps etc and the main part in this is to swing hte leg over, or it looks likes he's laying down doing the ginga stance,

  • altaitakefi, AKIMOTO basically just described it perfectly! But Ari, I'm confused why you guys are calling this and the new video the Capoeira sweep, when it's a pass. Unless you're reffering to the small section of the vid devoted to timing their pass so you can almost do a twist back and roll them to their back....

  • does 10th planet have a good book?

  • James:

Probably some of the BEST books on the market are from Eddie Bravo and the 10th Planet system. Check out Mastering the Rubber Guard and Mastering the Twister on Amazon!

  • Also the DVD series Eddie published is highly recommended by me!

It's much easier to understand the timing (and angles) of many moves by video instead of looking at a book and trying to figure it out.

  • @Submissions101 only good book is Gracie Diet!!! :P

  • I love how Eddie always covers both situations: prevention, and countering. That's the mark of a good teacher and a good analyst!

  • At the end there was great..lol... I clapped also.. eddie is a little beast on the mat..

  • I also love the fact that unlike many traditional AND modern teachers he mixes in and goes at it with the students not really caring if he loses. I'm sure he cares, he just seems to use it, not to beat himself up, but to improve.

  • I agree. I do Traditional Japanese Goju-Ryu. And i watch these vids and try them at our Dojo. I just installed a wifi system at the Dojo so i can stay informed. ty Eddie.. And thanks for ur info Chushinryoku..

  • i'm dig'in the new intro!

  • I like how Eddie doesn't get mad at the end when you gave resistance. A lot of instructors get all butthurt about that like you're showing them up.

  • Actually Eddie prompted that little 'resistance' at the end. He said (you can't hear it) "Show me what you got?"

  • you guys are awesome!

    I LOVE SUMBISSIONS101!!!!!!!

    :D

  • I like how you guys show how practical the move really is by going live sort of. If it works on Ari, then it works.

  • Trust me...lots of stuff works on me. I am just your average jiu jitsu player.

  • I'm a judoka, and I get so frustrated with guys in both judo and bjj that just have a general outline of moves and rely on speed and strength for them to work. I love the way the 10th planet system breaks everything down into the component parts. It allows people to learn the moves quicker, easier, and better, and also allows for small modifications, troubleshooting and finding holes in your own game.

  • where do you get those awesome grappling pants that fit like capri's?

    Awesome vid.

  • they look like regular gi pants to me. I might be wrong but thats what they look like

  • you're joking, right? they're gi pants.

  • i know they are gi pants! they don't seem to go all the way down though. haven't you noticed when he's training? gi pants fit short, but not THAT short. i wanted to know where you get those. geez

  • Hey Bro...they are just gi pants. Some gi pants are cut a bit different and some shrink a bit...it also depends on how long your legs are in regards to the size.

  • Thanks. I guess I'll stick with my own gi pants then :)

  • You're right. They are too short and far too fitted to be considered "regular" gi pants. I'm curious about them myself as I have really long legs and all my gi pants are too roomy in the leg.

  • Please open up a 10th planet system in Florida. Particularly in the city of Hollywood.

  • i dont generally care for eddie but grabbing the wrist was a neat detail i hadn't tried before

  • god i wish i could do BJJ...but i can't because i'm missing a kidney and my parents won't let me...i'll have to wait a little while until i really start training, great video, thanks a bunch(i kinda started teaching myself some basic moves)

  • i feel ya kid. i shattered my orbital and cheek bones and I was out of commission for about a year. get healthy first. quick tip, while youre out of commision, you should do a lot of stretching exercises. flexibility is key to BJJ

  • hey thanks for the advice, i really really appreciate it. i'm really interested in learning BJJ, i plan on training once i'm on my own(which is two years, i'm a sophomore in high school) i watch these videos religiously and practice them on a few people so i have a little feel for it

  • sophmore in high school? damn kid, you have a long way to go. I started training BJJ when I was 25. im 32 now and im a purple belt. keep working on balance and flexibility and when you feel better, all the stretching you do now will really help your guard play. the higher the guard, the more options you have for subs. check out my stretching exercises on my profile, they're perfect for grappling.

  • whoa! purple belt, i'm seriously honored to be given advice by you right now. I'm interested in it, hopefully if i start young it'll lead to something good later on haha, and thanks i'll check it out and surely start doing them in my free time

  • why not just start now i started muay thai and wrestling in 8th grade and started bjj about 4 monthes ago and im a sophomore

  • yeah, i mean i was planning to, but my parents won't let me cuz they think that i will get hurt cuz i only have one kidney instead of 2...which is BS cuz there's seriously .001 percent chance that i'll get hurt

  • man that sucks

  • haha it's alright, sooner or later i'll begin training, for now i'm learning from my friend who takes a class and also from these amazing videos(thank you submissions 101)! my parents are REALLY over protective, but i guess i can't really be angry over them wanting to protect me

  • yeah thats true and i love these videos also they are very helpful

  • yeah, i used what i learned from these videos and actually made my buddy tap, he's been taking BJJ classes for about 6 months...it surprised him haha, got him on a peruvian neck tie

  • nice man

  • ha, thanks. and hows muy thai going?

  • its fun shit man i actually have 1 amatuer mma fight and it was 3 3minute rounds and i won by knockout due to a head kick

  • holy crap haha congrats on the win already! muy thai looks so brutal...in a good way

  • thanks man only reason why i got to fight was because i was the only person who weighed 170 and was healthy but my instructer said i probally wont fight again til im 18

  • ah bummer, but just think, if you're a sophomore now(15-16) you have 2 years to really hone in your skills and train, same goes with BJJ. future could be bright if you ask me

  • Niice one Ari at the end..

Eddie is just the Master.. he's awsum, but doesn't seemingly such a niice guy who even takes advice from others who aren't masters of jiu-Jitsu, which is another awsum attribute of his.. I hate the people who think because they're a blackbelt that a white/bluebelt won't know something that they don't..

    Submissions101 are #1!

  • @seanyyman Well said. The more I watch S101 vids the more I'm in love with the 10th planet system and it's instructor's. You guys definitely fill holes that are left by the gracie videos because you aren't afraid to experiment, and more importantly aren't afraid to listen. I studied under a 5th degree black belt in Judo and he was a total dick to people- He treated the white belts like dogs.

  • Genius Son! I love the pass!
