  • This is BEGGING to be tabbed out for tenor! Can't figure it all out from Eddy's fingers unfortunately. Beautiful!

  • OMG this is awesome.

  • Eddy is an awesome banjo player! I love his relaxed and easy going style. He is a true professional, and makes his banjo playing look effortless.

  • Great song! Does anyone know where I can get a simple chord breakdown of this song? I found one, but it had like 12 chords in it lol

  • @saltcitycreative Really? I haven't been able to find ANY chords for it :(

  • he has a really good voice

  • I remember trying to play a tenor banjo a long time ago but the long reaches for the chords was too much for me. Not an easy instrument by any means. This guy makes it look effortless which it ain,t,

  • that was wonderful! truly! :)

  • really cute; buggered the lyrics but so what. really nice.

from the 5 pennies - Danny Kay and Louis Armstrong ... nobody makes music like that any more. the world has . . . changed.

  • Great song.

  • Thousands of plays for this old guy?!!!

    . . . .well, he Is pretty great. . .guess I'm just jealous. ;)

    Loved it!

  • Thanks for the kind words, but I think the ladies right -- but I have forgotten way too many tunes. Eddy

  • Love this, but the man needs to learn the lyrics. Learn the lyrics, darling, you will be fabuluos!! This was my daughter's favourite lullabye

  • Bah, Who needs lyrics after you've been inducted into the National Four-String Banjo Hall of Fame, been asked to endorse GHS banjo strings and considered an Icon of tenor banjo/dixieland jazz?...the list goes on. I'll eat my shoe if this man hasn't forgotten more songs and lyrics than I've learned.

  • Thanks - great lazy version - always the best!

  • Excellent!!!

I play a 10-string mandoloncello and I want to learn this song. I think this video will help me a lot! You're playing tenor tuning, right?

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Oops, I just noticed it says you do in the video info! =)

  • I recently watched 'The Five Pennies' and so searched Lullaby in Ragtime. I have listened to Eddie Davies playing his Banjo many times in the past two weeks. I love, love, love it, and as someone else has said,he portrays a wonderful enjoyment of playing and singing. It makes all of us wish we could play an instrument with such pleasure. As an English person I hadn't heard of Eddie Davies, this I will rectify!

  • i love this song!

  • Wonderful singing and playing

  • love it!

  • nice playing, and vocals good!

  • I too thought it was a grandapa at home.

What I liked more than anything

was when watching Ory's Creole Banjo and

seeing the joy he was getting from playing.

It made me think "this is a guy I would

really like to know" He seemed so happy.

The banjo stuff was just stuff.

I wished everyone had something that gave

them the joy he gets from performing.

  • i love this song, i play it in the guitar but like in a very different wayy.

  • Great song. It totally makes me want to give up the five-strings and pick up a tenor banjo.

  • Before reseaching "Eddy Davis" I thought he was just someones grandpa sitting around playing a banjo. I must say though, that even before I know he was of well acclaim his style of music and voice struck a chord with me. I have recently puchased a banjo and will start lessons within a week. I hope I can find some of Eddy's music to learn to play. This style fits me to a tee.
