....have you compared the effectiveness of just using filtered waste cooking oil to waste oil that has been filtered and undergone chemical reaction? (ie such as the catalyst, Alkali, methanol reaction)
@Alchaeon1 It seems like all plant based fuels have just a little less horse power. When the tank was good and hot, there was very little notable difference. I think the biodiesel/blends are thinner and may be a bit easier on your injectors.
I don't own this vehicle anymore but If I have to do it again, I would do a dual tank system like this. That way you can run anything from SVO to petro diesel or anything between.
Also, I would combine this with HHO on the same vehicle.
can a detroit diesel 14L motor run on conventional biodiesel? I'd need to run about 500 gallons at a time, and i don't know too many filling stations that have biofuel pumps.
What I did was make a u shaped piece of copper but there was not enough surface area. Insulation on the tank would have helped too. I have since gotten rid of the truck. These are great ideas you have and I'll bet a stainless steel coil rather than copper and urethane foam insulation is the way to go.
Thanks for all the comments and feedback on this video, glad it is helping some of you out!! :)
luke, an idea for a heater in your 2nd tank is to install copper tubing and make a pass straight through, or a coil. Then run heater hose from the water pump or tee into the cooling system somehow and heat the tank to the desired cooling temp of 180 degrees. Start the truck on diesel when tank is heated switch over. Tell me what you think.
Dude, thank you for the amazing video. American ingenuity at it's best! No "magic beans" to buy. I'm running a 50 / 50 blend of waste motor oil now but with your system I intend on trying 80 / 20 wmo & diesel. Two thumbs up for you and Harbor Freight!
I have a 1996 F-250 7.3 Powerstroke that I ran Bio in for about 6 months. It cost me $2700.00 to repair my fuel system. I bought from a station the did their on Bio.
@Altonmcc do you mean that e85 stuff because that's pretty much just ethanol. which is infamous for eating fuel lines and anything else that's rubber, so unless your truck/car was already made for it don't put it in you tank.
Hydrogenated Jells just below freezing. Did you separate the lard before filtering? And if your going to go to this extent, Reconsider on making your own Biodiesel. That's what .40 cents a gallon!
@circusboy90210 my opinion on centrifuges are that they are great. Use sock filtration to get all the larger particles and if you adjust the flow properly a centrifuge can get particles smaller than 1 micron. The downside is they can get expensive especially if you get the self cleaning ones or you could clean it yourself. Also the cleaner you want it the longer it takes but with the centrifuge if done properly you can skip the the last filtration before going into the fuel tank
I'm sure it's very good but I fell asleep after 2mins. It's no good saying, "it's a 420 filter as it's 4inches wide and 20inches long". Describe what each bit does and how you refine the vegetable oil and check acidity etc. A diagram would be good. If you put that stuff in a modern diesel engined car it would destroy the pump seals and injectors...it's too acidic, and it's bad for modern engines. It's fine in a 20year old non turbo Volvo, but NEVER in a new TDCi car.
Pretty clever Luke. You may want to make sure those blocks are strong enough to support that tank though, as you could be looking at close to a ton of weight there including the tank.
Shows that the "Internet in correctional facilities" program is alive and well.
Luker's video needs a little polishing. There was nothing in the video about BioDiesel, but thats ok. I am glad I now know how to spell his name and had time for art appreciation.
Good day to you ! i just want to know will it (the wvo for fuel) work on a 4 cylinder common rail diesel injection (crdi) engine ? do i need to modify my air intake, injection system ? its always hot here in the Philippines. tnx a lot
how many miles has your pick up been on SVO? and what is the mpgon SVO vs diesel? and did the air inflow intake and injection improve mpg if so was it worth it
I'm sorry, I have no way of measuring the SVO to check the mileage, I ran it for a year, 15K?, it did fine. The mileage is less, though.
The trick is to get the oil to the proper temp. When I got the oil good and hot, I couldn't tell a difference, but when the oil was a little cool, it didn't run very good.
As far as the air intake and the injectors, It cost less than 1,000 (I did the work myself) Bean's Diesel rebuilt the injectors.
Well Worth It!! A lot more power and fuel mileage.
It don't think it's strange that the temp is the same i think thats just the temp the people claim is neccessary because that is the realistic temp that can be obtained using the coolant.
I've notice some comments about this video not being about biodiesel.
This is the first step in cleaning the the raw WVO if you so choose to continue and make Biodiesel as some people do.
I choose to modify my vehicle and burn all the glycerine. I felt it was a simpler method.
I know this video is rough but I simply documented what I had at the time and uploaded it.
Thanks

check out ultimate veggie conversion bus on you tube he heats his oil with water heater element powered by battiers and a inverter.

5 gallons of kerosene for every 55 gallons of wvo. Thats the winter blend for my 6.2 and it runs great

great video... but are sure thats a 220 gallon tank. i have a very hard time imagining that it may even be a 120 gallon tank.
