My only problem is he sounds like he places too great an influence on the social and political circumstances i.e. US and corporations. I hope he realizes that the problem is with the very nature of technological civilization whether capitalist or socialist or whatever form. It is all technologically determined.

We've going to keep our industrialized civilization going. Nobody will stop us, and they can't because an industrialized civilization has the superior army. Hopefully alternative energy will make oil obsolete, then we won't bother. But you better believe that we'll extract every last drop of oil, mine every lump of coal, and cut down every tree before we let the lights go out.
Hydrogen is not a source of energy, just an inefficient way to store it. Nothing. NOTHING gets anywhere near "sweet" petroleum in energy gained vs energy lost. At best, there willbe alot less energy w/o oil.
Everything is energy, if you can store gas, you can also store hydrogen gas, that's very easy. Nikola Tesla could even get energy from the vacuum or from the cosmos in other words. Energy is free and should be free for everyone, you don't need a energy meter for that, only to enslave the world.
Remembering oil as concentrated death (as its origin is rotten organic material) and our vast dependence upon it (fertilizer [can't grow such huge amounts of food without it!], medicine [heard something like 80-90 % of western medicine is based upon oil derivates], plastic in general and/or specifically, plus many other its 'n bits), one could conclude the opinion from globalized western lifestyle as one, which is based upon recycled death.
The economic growth paradigm of the last decades has built up an unsustainable size of human population on earth. Whether we try to sustain that paradigm of growth by drilling for more expensive oil or not, the principle foundations of the modern world are set to fail anyway in the near future because even with an abundant surplus of energy, the ecology of the earth cannot sustain more than 2 Billion people on earth for more than a couple of decades.

I mean "we" as in the 99.999999% of us who aren't willing to surrender our civilization to your whims.

We can already use alternative energy sources like Hydrogen(HHO)and Electro-Magnetism but oil make to much money. Power corrupts.
