  • I think I like this version the best as far as the guitar playing is concerned.... I do agree about the monotone voice however, not my favorite there. maybe its cuz this is the first version of the song that I heard as a kid.

  • this is NOT the best ver Arch.. he has a mono tone voice and wrecks the song.. :p

  • Love this! Thanks for posting!

  • not near as good as comander codys version.

  • @dan11856

This version's the best. Commander Cody did a good cover of it, but it just doesn't have the same grit to it.

  • @felixjazzage I like em all these earlier versions sound almost rockabilly whereas asleep at the wheel and commander cody has a full (and really tight) full Texas swing band..

  • Wonderful Clip

  • had a 63 1/2 ford fast back,,430 lincoln motor n a top loader 4 speed,,,nuff said

  • Oh yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whats wrong with his gutar?! I'll pass.

  • cool sound passing cars, yet slow tempo compared to the last play I was fortunate to hear in the same video link. it isn't a beat in my hi fi that cut the time. where's Joe, when fast guitar is wanted for the metronome the drummer can execute? :)

  • first 45rpm I ever stole..lol

  • Good stuff!

  • great song,i always wanted a bucket-t

  • i just wanted to dislike this video... cuz no one else did...

  • my first record

  • I live in San Diego and I did much the same in my '57 Chevy. It had 4:11 gears AND an overdrive, just like the song. I took my "heavy Chevy" up to 100 mph. on the 805 and didn't get caught. I still have that car 40 years later and am sure glad I hung on to that classic. I love these old hot-rodding songs!

  • possumtail, I'm not certain, but I believe that the guitar player may have been the late, Joe Maphis. Joe could play anything with strings.

  • @sawmillslim It wouldn't surprise me in the least. Slingers like Maphis are so unsung....this is just over the top playing here.

  • There are several versions of this song that Johnny Bond put out but THIS ONE is THE ONE! I'd give anything to know who the guitar player was on this cut.

  • This is an awesome song, why it is not heard more often saddens me, why don't they play this song more? Haha, I love racing...so this song appears to me A LOT.

  • Called Hot Rod Jalopy in Britain!!

  • This is THE original!!!!! Awesome!

  • MY DAD DIED 16 YEARS AGO, HE REALLY LOVED THIS SONG

THIS ONE IS FOR YOU DAD.

  • I tried this on the San Diego FWY in 1963. Not a good idea as the outcome was about the same. Boy was my old man annoyed.

  • Woot finally The REAL Commander!!!

  • Johnny Bond's version of Hot Rod Lincoln is the best.

  • Agree with you, I think Commander Cody's version is awful. I cannot really comment on Charlie Ryan's I grew up on this version. My Brother still has the 45

  • @Archangel101576 Can't argue with that :)

  • @Archangel101576 Agreed. The Commander Cody version lacks energy, feeling and, well, is dulls-ville.

  • Must be Joe Maphis on the backup guitar. Who else could pick like that.

  • This is killer! Charlie Ryan's version was the first I ever heard, and it's timeless, but this Johnny Bond version is a kickass classic too. I used to own this single years ago, backed with "Five Minute Love Affair" on the B side. Great lead guitar.

  • Summer of '60 getting ready to start at Millikan HS. Long Beach, CA Great memories.

  • good song.
