i actally own a import copy of Nursery Crime... the album is amazing and so is Pete alone and with Gensis! he's first solo album is a personal favorite of mine.
good video like the interviews with the band and the clips from shepperton film studios, bataclan club paris and shrine auditorium LA also the reaction to the foxes head with phil is good also does anyone know a website that i can get the picture at 3:12 great photo that is!!! nice one
i love genesis and peter gabriel more than any other band, but that second song on this video, going out to get you, was kind of...horrible. otherwise, greatest band on earth. (30 years ago)
I saw them at Oxford on the Foxtrot tour. Tickets cost 20p that was 4 shillings not a lot even then. I had a set in the "gods" so I expect there were more expensive sets downstairs. I recall that string driven thing played and they were pretty good. However Genesis were awesome and I became a big fan as a result. A year later you could not get a ticket for love or money. The suppers ready above is from oxford a year after I saw them.
friend went for e.l.p. tix & came back w. front row center for genesis w. gabriel. thanksgiving '72. had never heard them, didn't know what to expect, how could we lose? ANYBODY had to be good that up close & personal. unf'n believable. "watcher of the sky" as my intro to this band. too much !
even saw collins sing "more fool me". time passes, times change, friends gone, but to my dyin' day i'll ALWAYS remember that show. they ruled !!!
What Movie or Documentary is this from, Does anyone know I'm looking for a good Documentary on Genesis to get and all the ones I've seen don't look that good
WOW!this is the first time I heard some of these songs by Gabriel in Genesis! I really like that one called "The Musical Box"!But Gabriel's hair was odd with that shaved spot down the middle of his head and wearing make up.
I may be the only person in the world to think this, but I loved Ray Wilson's vocals on the CD Calling All Stations, I think he was a close 2nd to Peter's vocals, and better than Phil Collins! Wish they'd done some more with him...
This is the funniest comment to be put especially in a video that honours the best of Genesis, since CAS is the worst of all their albums. Were you serious? No, right? Still, I respect your opinion...Not!!...laughs... I do (seriously!)
Was and am serious, but then, what would I know - I gave up on the albums from 'And Then There Were Three' onward when it became The Phil Collins Show...
I agree the album certainly could've been better though, just as the songs get going and you expect a change in tempo or chord structure they fade out, leaving the album sounding like a sampler CD, but surely that would've been down to the other two, Ray only had a hand in writing 3 of the songs.
knobstick - To be fair, I really liked the single a lot. I didn't even know who it was when I heard it on the radio so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was Genesis.
But the album was unremittingly dismal. As a long term Genesis fan, I think would have been better if CAS had never been released.
Personally, I think CAS would've been better with more Ray input. I'm not saying it would've blown away their earlier material... but with only two people in the writer's chair who are already contemplating throwing in the towel, you get samey dirges and a too-even album like CAS. Ray would've added some energy, at least.
Anthony Phillips (Ant) was more influential to early Genesis than Hackett, that being said, the best Genesis line-up was the one from 1971 till 1975 and includes the Nursery - Lamb period (Banks, Collins, Gabriel, Hackett and Rutherford). In my opinion of all the Genesis members, past and present, the most important one, was and still is Mr. Tony Banks... the most creative musician and keyboards player of our generation!!!
I think I'm obsessed with the beautiful Mr. Gabriel. Must.....stop.....watching......beauty.....too....strong........ God, I'm like a giddy schoolgirl when I see him. I talk about him so much I think I have my Husband convinced that he's hot too! Let me know when this gets unhealthy!
No, it wasn't only Gabriel. The guys behind him, namely Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, and Steve Hackett(in that order) wrote virtually all the music. Gabriel's antics got them noticed, but they wouldn't have lasted nearly as long as they have without some really good songwriters.
I can't think of a current band with this kind of virtuosity or depth. Even bubble gum pop Genesis was/is better than No Genesis. Plus The solo pieces of Pete, Steve and Anthony Phillips are timeless. And the totally bizare thing is in this era you had Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Rennaisance, PFM all unique but equals in their craft and sheer scope of abilities. I enjoy the Killers and Modest Mouse, but these current bands couldn't roadie for these guys!
It seems everyone forgets Hackett. Ever see the VH1 "Seven Ages of Rock"? They mentioned that Banks, Gabriel, and Rutherford started the band, and a couple years later, Phil Collins joined on drums. But no mention of Hackett whatsoever. What a shame.

Thanks. And I'm glad it's that song. I'm going to see "The Musical Box" (thanks to someone;s recommendation on here)in NY friday and this is on the playlist. Like gsolman6, I got exposed to Gabriel around 16 (through MTV) and could never understand the attraction. I have a tough time relating the person I'm watching on these clips to the Gabriel of 1982-86. Thanks to "You Tube" I now "GET IT".
Age I started listening to Genesis with Peter Gabriel: 36
This is why I hate radio/TV since I've discovered 10 times as much good music through the net.
I would have paid just about any amount of money to see these guys when the toured with Van Der Graaf Generator. The two best vocalists in prog both approaching their peaks - what more could a fan ask for?
Outstair99 and bren. : I've been thinking the exact same thing!! :) Perhaps Keenan and Tool was indeed inspired by Peter and Genesis? If you chech out Gabriel's musicvideo for "I don't remember", there's some white-painted men that reminds me sooo much of some of the characters in one of Tool's videos. Gabriels creativity must have sparkled a few other musicians creativity out there.. :)
I thought it was just my imagination that these two were similar. I'm glad to hear that other people think the same. Both Genesis and TOOL are awesome! I wish that people knew how Pete was back in the day.
I would give anything to have seen them play right after Lamb Lies Down, unfortunatley I didn't see them live until 1978 when Phil was the lead singer
Oh gosh, Peter looks awsome in the beginning of this video and during the keyboard solo and when he sings Most had given everything they had. His voice is angelic during PLay me old King Cole.
I also love the way Peter and Phils voice join when they say It hardly seems to matter now. It just sounds so awsome.
Why don't you touch me NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW. Yes. Yes Yes.
