This movie actually started off a chain of events that changed my mind about religion and turned me into an atheist. Thank you Bill Maher, if only more people were like you!
The second rule would be: Do as you're told, or die (The Lord is My Shepherd), this would make people do whatever i whish. Now that I've established a solid foundation, I'd keep on going: Do not question me (Jehovah's Witnesses), Do not question why (will of God, Islam), and so on. Get the point? Religion is nothing more than a weapon of control, at least that's how it's being used. Something the modern man should have understood by now.
I highly recommend this to believers and non-believers alike - very enjoyable, though it may lack credibility at times. But despite earlier doubts, Maher delivers well on this one. I've always thought atheists and theists shouldn't have the right to barge into each other's lives. You must educate yourself on the issue before making your mind up - if not you're an ignorant fool (this goes for theists and atheists). Don't try to change each others opinions, there'll be no peace. Good day people.
The part where Bill Maher says "God knows what could have been accomplished in the last several hundred years" is one of the most ironic statements I have heard.

I highly recommend this movie. It may not be as enjoyable to Christians as it is to atheists, but maybe it will get them to think a little bit about the nonsense that they do believe.

What's amazing about this movie is how true it is. Sure, there is some sharp editing to make it more funny, but even if you take away all that crap it's completely true. Maher does not once say that God is not real, he simply provides evidence to show how full of crap religion is. He's right too. People should not approach the big questions with certainty rested on faith, but with skepticism. Because nobody knows if god is real.
Think though...This 'movie' had an editor. We all (lord i hope) know what an editor does. The editor makes the movie as straight to the point as it can get. Obviously the point of the show is to try and humiliate religions. I haven't seen the end product. However, I have a feeling that 80% of the movie has to do with the Jewish and Christian God. I consider myself to be a Liberal Christian. So when I think of a film like "Religulous" I think, "Oh, that is how an Agnostic views western religions. Fascinating." It kind of bugs me a little that he included Scientology in the film. Christianity has led to the Holocaust, Islam has jihad, and there have been four Crusades. So Scientology is like a drop in the bucket compared to those two.

I take issues with anyone who claims that their belief is the right one. Yes, even Atheists. No matter how logically sound any belief in the existence or lack of a God, the fact still remains that it can't be proven. Any hypothesis that cannot be proven cannot be favoured. So the question: Is there a God? My answer is: "Do we need to care?"
Although Bill Mahr can be condescending, his basic message is this: you can believe whatever you want in your personal life, but when the people who create laws or teach my children or run my country start pushing THEIR belief agenda, then he has an issue. You cannot run a country of millions of religions/backgrounds/nationalities and say "Because I follow ______ religion, our way of life is going to be run from that." It's good to finally open the box and have everything out on the table. This is how we discern the truth. The church is not perfect, because it has been entrusted to people. People make mistakes and we can't judge or hate people for being human, however there is a perfect man who walked the earth and taught. He didn't force his belief he demonstrated it, and people followed. He is not hiding, but has sent his Holy Spirit to convict, some people will just refuse to listen to what he had to say...

The second rule would be: Do as you're told, or die (The Lord is My Shepherd), this would make people do whatever i whish. Now that I've established a solid foundation, I'd keep on going: Do not question me (Jehovah's Witnesses), Do not question why (will of God, Islam), and so on. Get the point? Religion is nothing more than a weapon of control, at least that's how it's being used. Something the modern man should have understood by now.

I highly recommend this to believers and non-believers alike - very enjoyable, though it may lack credibility at times. But despite earlier doubts, Maher delivers well on this one. I've always thought atheists and theists shouldn't have the right to barge into each other's lives. You must educate yourself on the issue before making your mind up - if not you're an ignorant fool (this goes for theists and atheists). Don't try to change each others opinions, there'll be no peace. Good day people.

I highly recommend this movie. It may not be as enjoyable to Christians as it is to atheists, but maybe it will get them to think a little bit about the nonsense that they do believe.

I personally like people who make questions about their beliefs. It enhances their faith. What I don't like about the movie is that it's very superficial about the questions, and that it mostly focus religious people and not religion itself.

What's amazing about this movie is how true it is. Sure, there is some sharp editing to make it more funny, but even if you take away all that crap it's completely true. Maher does not once say that God is not real, he simply provides evidence to show how full of crap religion is. He's right too. People should not approach the big questions with certainty rested on faith, but with skepticism. Because nobody knows if god is real.

Think though...This 'movie' had an editor. We all (lord i hope) know what an editor does. The editor makes the movie as straight to the point as it can get. Obviously the point of the show is to try and humiliate religions. I haven't seen the end product. However, I have a feeling that 80% of the movie has to do with the Jewish and Christian God. Please tell me if I am wrong.

I consider myself to be a Liberal Christian. So when I think of a film like "Religulous" I think, "Oh, that is how an Agnostic views western religions. Fascinating." It kind of bugs me a little that he included Scientology in the film. Christianity has led to the Holocaust, Islam has jihad, and there have been four Crusades. So Scientology is like a drop in the bucket compared to those two.

I take issues with anyone who claims that their belief is the right one. Yes, even Atheists. No matter how logically sound any belief in the existence or lack of a God, the fact still remains that it can't be proven. Any hypothesis that cannot be proven cannot be favoured. So the question: Is there a God? My answer is: "Do we need to care?"

Although Bill Mahr can be condescending, his basic message is this: you can believe whatever you want in your personal life, but when the people who create laws or teach my children or run my country start pushing THEIR belief agenda, then he has an issue. You cannot run a country of millions of religions/backgrounds/nationalities and say "Because I follow ______ religion, our way of life is going to be run from that." There is a separation of church and state for a reason.

Bill Maher is a jew not a white. He never bashes judaism but spends most of his time bashing Christianity. He loves Israel and believes we should protect it because he says it's a democracy. Israel was taken by military force paid for predominantly by American Christian tax dollars. Like the Daily show which is jewish run and jewish hosted, and like Al Franken(jewish) who wrote white men are stupid, Bills job is to make people feel like idiots using comedy for not being atheistic liberals.

First of all he does go after the Jewish religion in the movie. A whole section of the movie is spent with a rabbi. Then another section he spends with a Jewish guy who builds machines to get around Jewish law. he also goes to the Jewish holy land. Have you actually seen this film? For centuries, religious leaders and fanatics have murdered innocent people, wiped out entire cultures and forced their beliefs onto people who believed in something different from them, all in the name of God and religion.
And all of the people that leave comments that condemn this movie, are perfect examples of the hypocrisy encompassing religion that Bill is talking about!

Bill was scratching his head with a 'clever' quip about water being in 3 different stages, gas, liquid, ice.
The preacher or actor drew this to be synonymous with the father, the son and the holy ghost.
But Bill should have retorted using simple logic. Yes, water can be in these 3 stages, sure, BUT IT CAN ONLY BE IN ONE OF THE 3 FORMATS, NEVER ALTOGETHER AS ONE. So the analogy was absolute nonsence.

People make mistakes and we can't judge or hate people for being human, however there is a perfect man who walked the earth and taught. He didn't force his belief he demonstrated it, and people followed. He is not hiding, but has sent his Holy Spirit to convict, some people will just refuse to listen to what he had to say...

Awesome Movie!! I'm actually trying to get my mom to watch it... she's recently started going to a Pentecostal Church and wishes she could "Receive the Holy Spirit" and "Speak in Tongues" (Gibberish). I wanna know who slips the acid into the church to cause the mass hysteria among people..

Some people argue that without religion there would be bad things in the world.. not true.. I am an atheist and do not have a criminal record. Disputes between religions have just made people start wars and kill each other, and several priests were able to get away with sexual assault for decades... all because back in the day, mommy would not believe little timmy if he told her he was sexually assaulted because christians were 'good people'.

Although I disagree with him on many other issues, in the case of religion, Bill Maher is the voice of reason. I mean, all religion causes is false hope, massive corruption (ESPECIALLY in the case of catholicism -- I don't think Jesus wanted an ornate palace with monarchist rulers), ridiculous illogical assumptions, and intense irrational hate. And somehow, the leaders of these groups need only to say "have faith", and everyone will believe whatever they say. No faith for me, thanks.

uhh, theres a lot of stories in the bible that are meant to give a meaning and a message, and they are not to be taken literally. but the resurrection of christ began a new religion that makes up 75% of america. agnostics/atheists make up 5% of america. do you really believe that 75% of 330 million people follow christ because they heard a story of a talking dead guy? The atheists just havn't had a religious experience because thats how they were raised. no fault in that but maher is wrong
