Hugh Laurie is a very humble man despite his great talent. Also he values the writers as the key to his character's success. Plus he's a writer himself! Well done!

House is a fantastic show. It's the only show I've actually turned on my T.V. or even thought about scheduling my life around in any way for maybe a decade. To the haters out there. If I went up to a street artist who was selling prints for $20 and I wanted to purchase one; am I just going to give the artist .02 and give the other $19.92 to some passing stranger? Then if the artist wished he had at least gotten two more cents- I'd have to look like a big fuking douche if I screamed back at his face for being greedy and find another job if he can't handle it.

Your analogy makes no sense whatsoever. The writers work for the studio. Therefore (and this is the way companies work), the studio makes money off of the sale of goods. If the writers want to renegotiate their contracts, fine - you make what you're worth. But, the writers aren't "entitled" to proceeds unless it was stated in their original contract.
Ok, let's say you are a content provider. You have a script, your creation that you worked very hard on, your baby, and you pitch it to a studio. The studio, now standing between you, the "artist", and me, the person with $20. Why is this buffer, (a faceless mass of goo) asking that I give it $19.98, and you get .02. You, who did %100 of the work that I enjoy to willfully shell out the $20.00 for.
Isn't there something glaringly wrong with this pecking order?
Now let's say there's another different faceless goo standing between you, the artist, and me, the consumer/fan of your work with $20. I give this new buffer $20, and the buffer then gives you the $20.
What just now happend here? You get 100% and the goo nothing? How? This new buffer? Your website. The internet. Kinda makes one wonder if the studios are crapping their pants at this new form of competition.
That "faceless goo" you are talking about took the writers' scripts and marketed them into show, which the networks turned into money. Hey , if you are a writer and you think you can make more money marketing YOURSELF, be my guest.
not really. The producers and the studio are the ones who FRONT the money to get the episode from the script to the can. the money to hire the directors, camera people, editors, wardrobe etc. You write the script, come up with all the cash to turn it into a broadcast quality show, go ahead and keep the profits.the writers are a small piece of the large puzzle that the producers put together.
That being said, I think they deserve what they are asking for. It's just that your analogy is flawed.

Trust me, the truly talented writers had already renegotiated their contracts (and/or weren't dumb enough to sign away their royalty rights in the first place) before this stupid strike began. A writer making $500,000 a year doesn't need a strike (yes, some writers make this much).
Very stingy, I remember hearing before he left Disney, Eisner gave himself a 7.5 mil bonus, that could have gone to pay for stuff, thats what these studio execs do, make more money to line their pockets and keep us hard working shlubs down
Wouldn't suprise me. I've heard from artists friends that had quit there say Eisner just hated the creative staff. Said something to the extent that monkeys can do what they do. Nice. Couldn't say if that were true, but he certainly does comes of as arrogant and greedy.
Glad to see you enjoy anime, as well. Will have to subscribe to your channel.
Well I worked for the Anaheim park for four years and knew quite a few old timers and they all agre he almost ran the company into the ground, and btw, havnt really followed anime since the mid 90s, only got back into it cuz of my niece, still enjoyable though
I looked for that comment here. A comment that was made FOUR HOURS ago, backpeddler! I can't predict the future or read your mind if you omit facts! Maybe if you had mentioned before it would have had a different influnce on my responce. Allow me to correct myself.
So you buy USED crap and complain about it? How big of a retard are you? Again, you're not putting money in their pockets, why would you even care less if they get more or not?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I do not give a rat's ass what these fuks make..I buy used DVD's and CD's so these over paid fuks don't make much of me! I put all the money I would have paid them into MY bank account and get to enjoy the fruits of their labor..

OneRottenTomato 4 years ago 3
Let take it another step forward.
OneRottenTomato 4 years ago 3
That "faceless goo" you are talking about took the writers' scripts and marketed them into show, which the networks turned into money. Hey , if you are a writer and you think you can make more money marketing YOURSELF, be my guest.
m015094 4 years ago
It's just that your analogy is flawed.

and thats what a strike is for dumbass, to re-negotiate their contracts.

Trust me, the truly talented writers had already renegotiated their contracts (and/or weren't dumb enough to sign away their royalty rights in the first place) before this stupid strike began. A writer making $500,000 a year doesn't need a strike (yes, some writers make this much).

Key word being "SOME".

The more appropriate word being "very, very few you fucking moron"

Asking only .04 per dvd sale, and the studios have a problem with this? Wow, how stingy can the studios get?
OneRottenTomato 4 years ago 17
Very stingy, I remember hearing before he left Disney, Eisner gave himself a 7.5 mil bonus, that could have gone to pay for stuff, thats what these studio execs do, make more money to line their pockets and keep us hard working shlubs down
Lonewolfjedi 4 years ago
Wouldn't suprise me. I've heard from artists friends that had quit there say Eisner just hated the creative staff. Said something to the extent that monkeys can do what they do. Nice. Couldn't say if that were true, but he certainly does comes of as arrogant and greedy.
Glad to see you enjoy anime, as well. Will have to subscribe to your channel.

Bigjohnnywad-
You have no idea about what writers are paid; most of them aren't paid enough at all.
Also, if you hate writers so much, why buy what they write?
You're a big stinking hypocrite, I think.
If you despise the industry, don't support it.
I.E. Practice what you preach.

Bigjohnnywad 4 years ago
If you're going to insult me, spell my name right.
Who's the bigger pussy here anyway, an 18 year old girl or some 70 year old guy who insults an 18 year old girl?
Also, calling me wet behind the ears?
This coming from a man who has Colbie Callait and Katherine McPhee music video in their favorites?
You listen to the music of a girl less than 18 years old, I don't think you have much room to criticize me.
