I miss the BC of my 60gb PS3, but I love the noise reduction of the slim. It's nice to be able to play a game for hours and not have the PS3 go into jet engine mode.

When i put my ps3 on a table, something inside the ps3 rattles. It sounds like something is loose in the disc drive. Is it normal?

@Andrew14GR PS3 actually cools itself down. Once Xbox 360 gets hot, it stays practically the same amount of heat until you turn it off reguardless of what you do. Wii never really gets that hot at all.

this isn't hard at all. It's a big machine and works hard...I think a well ventilated space is necessary for a PS3 or any console. My tv furniture is open from the front and back. Just make sure to clean out the fan once in a while, since fans can suck in allot of the daily dust in, causing the fan to work even harder, thus making more noise

The loudest the PS3 really gets is about the same amount of noise original 360 makes when you turn it on cold with no disc. lol

Well after that i know that im gonna have to save up for a ps3 slim! I got a ps3 80gb second hand from cex last year and although it works fine its really noisy. Plus half the hardrive is taken up by game data and i've only got 20 games!

My 60GB sometimes behaves like that.. First it gets loud then goes quiet then extremely loud then too too quiet.. then it went quiet for at least 5-6 hours of non stop game play. I only had my 60GB since 2007 and is still going strong. No fuck up yet.

@shadow36057 intercoolers are rip offs.. they actually choke the ps3 by pushing all that hot air back on the inside which will eventually give you yellow light of death.. just keep your ps3 in a cool area where there is very little to no dust and you'll be fine

Damn next gen systems. Console noise never used to be a factor to count. Now it's basically a need to factor in.

chadheck96 ps2 was actually exactly 100% louder than the PS3 slim in a sound lab test (lol)

the loudest console of them all was the xbox360 first gen and the second loudest was the latest 65nm xbox360 it's sill louder than the PS2 even without the dvd-drive.

so it's not a next-gen issue, it's an all-gen issue.

Hey I got a ps3 slim just now, and it's actually quiet when I was playing uncharted 2....=/ Also the disk wasn't warm when I took it out....I think it's because I installed it on the HDD....maybe =/ Since I used to do this with my xbox 360

@sterlingnobles I think it's just certain games that support it. But it's not a full installation, you still have to insert the disk when you play it. It's just used so that when you play the game, the disc doesn't spin in other words faster loading times + no disc spinning noises
