  • all i know is that the firrst part is about the sky the second is about the sea and the third is about the culture and the song is is islander treasure

  • Can someone translate the words in english? i would really appreciate, I love this song. Thanks!

  • prt 1 How well do I know These island skies that I was born under The shining stars, the passing clouds Even if you ask me, I dont know their names But more than anyone, I know them In joy and in sorrow Ive gazed up at this sky countless times You cant understand it just by whats written in a textbook Surely, there is something precious here That is the treasure of the islanders
  • prt 2 How well do I know The seas of the island where I was born The wounded reefs and dwindling fish I dont know what to do about them either But more than anyone, I know Caressed by the sand, tossed by the waves This ocean that keeps changing little by little You wont see it broadcast on TV or playing on the radio But surely, there is something precious here Its the treasure of the islanders
  • prt 3

    How well do I know

The songs of this island where I was born

    TUBARAAMA mo DENSAA bushi mo

    kotoba no imi sae wakaranai

(The Tubaraama, and the Densaa Bushi, [1])

(I dont even know the meaning of the words)

But, more than anyone, I know

On celebration nights and festival mornings

The songs that drift over me from somewhere far

  • prt 4

Until that someday when I part from this island

I want to understand the precious things here more deeply

Thats the treasure of the islanders

Thats the treasure of the islanders

Thats the treasure of the islanders

  • @elithewfa LOVE this song by Begin - Okinawan singer. Bought this song when I was there, as well. Have the lyrics - the tour guide taught us how to sing this on our one-day tour of the island.

  • esse kara -BEJIN- um dos maiores cantores e compositores de musicas da regiao de okinawa!! maioria das musicas que e susceso ate hoje ,quase todas sao de sua autoria, TEOHIRA

  • My favorite Okinawan song...I watched BEGIN perform live at the Orion beer festival about 5 or 6 years ago...it was great. I performed a dance in costume with two friends to this song while singing at the big annual karaoke competition in Okinawa. I have the video made by RBC, and you can hear the crowd gasp when I took my mask off...I was the only American. I have this CD, but does anyone know if there is a karaoke CD for this song (lyrics disabled)? Thanks! Okinawa and BEGIN lover for life!!!

  • such a great song. Makes me CRY! I miss okinawa and my family there. I WILL BE BACK SOON AGAIN! numers090: koodos on your story...haha love it when foreignors embrace our culture as we do.

  • AzukaBom, as a foreigner, I embrace quite a few other cultures (especially the music), the top two being Hawaiian and Okinawan. I'm always glad to hear that the locals appreciate it.

To be honest, my own American culture is kinda bland (I know there are many who would disagree with this).

  • I know they got it, i got it on my ipod

  • There is! You have to by the CD single of this song (it has the original and a karaoke version). If

  • Beautiful. I wish I had english lyrics to this.

  • -Treasure of The Islanders- How well do I know the sky of this island where I was born? The shining stars, the floating clouds I would not know their names when I'm asked. But I do know more than anybody about this sky that I have been looking up at many times when I was in sorrow or in joy. It is something that cannot be described only in the textbook something important is lying here. That is the treasure of the islanders.
  • Thank you. These are beautiful lyrics, and I greatly appreciate your effort in translating the song. My absolutely favourite line in the entire thing is the this:

But I do know more than anybody about the music that has rolled in somewhere

in the town at the night of celeblation,

and in the morning of festival.

    That sounds so nostalgic.

  • How well do I know the sea of this island where I was born? For the declining corals, the diminishing fishes. I would not know what to do. But I do know more than anybody about this sea that has been changing While being covered with sand and rocked in the waves It is something that cannot be viewed in TV or heard on radio something important is lying here. That is the treasure for the islanders.
  • How well do I know the songs of this island where I was born?

    The "Tubarama", the "Densa bushi",

I do not even know the meaning of the words.

But I do know more than anybody about the music that has rolled in somewhere

in the town at the night of celeblation and

    in the morning of festival.

Until the day that I am leaving this island

    something important

I will keep deep in my heart .

That is the treasure for the islanders.
