2) It was a hacker who sought to prove how weak and easy sony's network is to hack and take advantage of. In other words their intention was to make a statement.

What you have to realise is that is wasnt an outter attack, the new custom firmware "jailbreak" allowed users to connect to the dev server, from there it would be easy to access of users seeing as sony stores YOUR personal information in plain text format. This is why sony says there could be a posibility of stolen information, because anybody with the firmware could access it with little knowledge.

For 360 fanboys, XBOX Live got shut down for 2 weeks in the December of 2008, so stop trolling please. For PSN users, if you have entered credit card information, your CVV2s (3/4-digit security code on the back of your credit card) are safe thus rendering your credit card, useless for the most part. You can get a cheap core 2 duo and a half decent videocard for a few hundred dollars and run just about anything at higher settings than a console is capable of outputting. In fact, I could probably recommend a pair of them that wouldn't cost you more than $250.
