  • nice :) it would be fun to watch this in slow motion :)

  • Cool!!!!!!!!

  • I thought it was real I was all like be careful don't knock it over. lol

  • this is amazing!

  • Hi just wondering, how does the oil paint not rot the paper over time? I was taught to gesso surfaces before oil painting or otherwise it would rot it. I love your stuff though! So many mediums, makes me inspired to get to work!

  • @kazanjianm

i hate colour, it makes everything i do look terrible. i hate when my art teacher makes me add colour to what ive drawn. i know why, but i just cant seem to keep it how i like it. can you help me use colour beter in a general senerio. thanks

  • incredible

  • You are my master of drawing.

I am a 71yr old lady, and Iam learning again, how to draw ...because old peolpe can do it too.

    Thanks sweetheart young master

    Granny Zizi

  • This is all fine for the most elementary of instruction, I suppose, but beyond that, there must be other videos available for young children.

  • that is very cool, and do you have a deviantart

  • AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!

    !!!!!!!!!!!! Great job !!!

  • Good but too fast

  • what kind of paper did you use to hold marker color pencil and oil paint? Just regular inkjet paper ?

  • Thank you for the video man, I'm working on painting a glass bottle filled with water, but the painting part is just too hard. I need help on this, any tips you would advise? I'm doing it directly on paper using either acrylic or poster paint. I'm a new painter and I'm doing this for an upcoming test. Sheesh I need help. ._. Your video has aided me in a couple of ways already, but man I need more tips! Thanks btw! :D

  • you are the reason I finally subcribed to You tube. Thank you soo much!! I love drawing faeries, could ya do that fo me, focusing on "in flight" actions, and anthing nature!! Im doin a bloody marathon!!! Candice

  • very nice video...but above all like your presentation,modesty.....it means that you are really artist.....I wish you many good observation and pleasant surprises in your future works.

  • that is just super thank you again I enjoyed watching you. :)

  • son of a *******

YOU ARE A GREAT ARTIST MAN congratulations!

you deserve more people to know you as well as other artists on youtube.

Youtube has got an amazing amount of artists.

  • awesome man ! thanx for sharing ! just one question what is the reference to polaroid all about? would you be so kind to explain that again !

  • simply amazing .....

  • Brilliant, I feel like I could reach out and touch it.

  • Your drawings are amazing! I always have a problem with highlighting, and drawing realisticly, do you have any advice?

  • is it the same technique when using paint only?

  • Are you painting your oils on regular computer paper? or did you use some printable oil paper? I love you technique! I love the idea of working the colour on the whole picture and not just on one area...that will definitely help to keep a uniform colour and feel to the entire picture. It was better then so many other tutorials on here.

  • Why didnt you just start with the oil painting first? Seems like wasted time and materials...

  • Hey Great Videos man!

I got some charcoal pencils and some compressed charcoal for christmas and i was wondering if you could do some videos on how to draw a realistic female or male face.

So far your videos have helped me out a lot man. Thank you.

  • amazing!!!!!!

  • can u do a tutroial on how to draw people using only oil pastels??please...ilove ur tutorials..very inspiring..do more awesome tutorials..as usual..lol

  • cheater! lol - just photo copy the whole thing then? :DD

  • Hi Merrill!

    Great tutorial, keep them coming!

Early next year I'm going to be applying for a

"three dimensional architecture & Design " 1 year long course!

I have roughly 5 months to practice before the my "work application" needs to be handed over.

Do you think 4 hours per day for 5 months is enough to be exceptional?

Last year :19 slots - 190 applying ( its for the elite basically )

BTW could you make a tutorial of different techniques for practice? I would really appreciate it!

  • OMG ilove to draw and watching your videos helped me understand some techniques

  • yo mate just thought id let you know i liked your video and it helped me out in making my portfolio to get into school. your stuff is clear, concise and hit the points i was struggling with in some of work

    thanks,

    dave

    p.s. please keep posting

  • why did u make a lot of layer in oil? just curious and what kind of paper is this?

  • I have been doing all different types of art but as of yet I haven't found my niche. I use different mediums but I am still a beginner.

I have watched you give your demonstrations and I can only aspire to be anywhere near as good as you.

You have given me many tips and I am buzzing now and will be trying some soon.

    Many, many thanks.

Ps I wish you lived in UK so I could have some lessons.

    Keep up the great work.

  • جميل للغاية ممتع جدا

  • I wanted to use oil paints with pencils but then I found out about fat over lean princple and got turned off from it. Just coz I don't know how to use them.

Your so good... and I like the way you explain things...

Can you draw transparent images? using colored pencils and charcoal? thnkksssss:)

  • waoo great wor....i think u must tell in easier way by starting off with darker tones, middle tones and lighter tones so it would b easier for the viewers to understand....am also a artist...

  • This is on paper?

  • This really helped alot,as i'm drawing glass for my project..But can i know what type of paper you use?And is it possible to use acrylics as well?

  • Very impressive Merril, your art is very informational and inspirational.

  • My sister draws too and she is really good like u

  • pencile, charcoal, colored pencil, markers AND oil paint, I had no idea this could all happen in the same piece :)

  • What type of paper that you use in the copier? Canvas or xerox paper?

  • i like your drawing but with me when say picture stuff like shapes it kind of hard for me to do it make my stuff still look like sense

  • I must say I'm impressed at how realistic the glass with water turned out to be. One suggestion I have for future videos, is that you maybe slow the speed down a little bit. I think it's interesting to see what kind of strokes you use, as well as how you apply them. Not to mention maybe a little info on how much pressure you use when using the colored pencils. But anyways an overall good video :)

  • dude, i use to draw a little and a week ago i bought pencils, charcoal, and every type of drawing paper and paint! LOL so im in a mood to draw and your drawings are awesome and very inspirational! thank you for sharing! God Bless!

  • ram23m,

I am HONORED by your comment! Please let me know if you ever have questions! I always try to reply as much as I can!

    -Merrill

  • But there is one HUGE problem - look at the glass - it looks like that middle of glass is curved and not stright.. and that totally damage drawing look...

  • can you use the technique u used with water color?

  • @boriquadominicana Yes but the watercolor would smudge with the printer ink (I think.....never tried it w/ atercolor)

  • I like this color version MUCH better!! ;D

  • Thank you!!!! :)

    -Merrill

  • i need help with color blending!

  • OOPS! I missed your comment! Sorry about that! I would recommend getting soft tipped brushes and using them to smoothe the wet paint....That is the best way! I hope this helps!

    -Merrill

  • @kazanjianm thanks

  • wow, thats really good, im not an artist but am one who appriciates others art and your art is definately appriciated by me

  • SORRY! About the 2 MONTHS TOO LATE response! I missed your comment initially but it certainly was a nice surprise now that I found it.....even better than finding a dollar bill in my pocket! Thank you for the kind comment!

    -Merrill

  • Thank you very much! I like your painting and the explanation was so clear and useful! It inspires to try and to study! Glass is so challenging :)

  • I am so glad that it helped! Thank you for the comment!

    -Merrill

  • what type of paper did you use for the final draft. I wouldn't think that a regular piece of computer paper would take marker, colored pencil, and oil paint without just mushing up. Haha. Reply please :)

  • No worries, I always reply. You are absolutely correct about computer paper and paint. I use 110 LB Bleedproof paper (Borden and Riley) Its made for illustration markers but its thick enough for paint. Thanks for checking out my video and my channel!

    -Merrill :)

  • OOPS! Artmorphs is me (Merrill)......Its the name of my other channel!

  • When you first started painting the cup, I thought you totally messed up. It looked really bad, and even though it was still a working progress, I couldn't see how it would look good. But the final picture does look really good. This stunned me even more when you were drawing it with graphite and charcoal. The way you scribbled all over the background then smudged it with a paper towel! Ya, teachers will always tell you that that's a bad idea. But it looks awesome man!! Way to go, I love it.

  • I was the guy that ALWAYS got in trouble with the teachers!!!!!....Thats why im a teacher now! LOL......I actually learned painting before drawing....Filling in masses has always made more sense to me which is why I did this in such an unorthodox way! Thank you so much SeaMermaid24!

    -Merrill

  • you painted on a piece of paper??

what do u do after? frame it? or just keep it the way it is.. i use canvas. why dont u use canvas?

  • I like canvas but I like paper on wood panel better....Kind of the more cost effective route....Also a lot of times I incorporate a scanner, photoshop/paint shop pro and a printer with my art. Check out Either "Caffeine Junkie Coffee People" or the video on my channel page (Making a Gangsta) to see what I mean. Thanks for commenting!

    -Merrill

  • i find it very hard to paint glass :p . I find your demo very useful. u did an amazing job! hope to see more of your videos tks!

  • Thank you so much! Im really glad that it helped!!! Thank you for subscribing! ITs nice to meet you!

    -Merrill

  • Good question! Ok...First recommendation that I have is to look in to drawing pencils. There is a system ranging from 8H (lightest) to 8B (Darkest). It goes like this 8H, 7H, 6H, 5H, 4H. 3H. 2H, HB (HB is the same tone as a #2 pencil) 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B, 7B, 8B. Each pencil will give you a different tone. In addition to that, like you said, different pressures with the pencil will make things lighter and darker. One more suggestion but I am running out of room in this box.

  • That was amazing!!! it came together so well! good job =)

I have a question, Ive been noticing alot of people are now creating black and white drawings, Ive been trying to create some myself but the whole shading light color and dark color throughs me off. How do artist get that black and white effect? do they just color darker and ligter for some areas? or do they use some kind of smudging tool to thin it out?? Gahh I need help =p

  • sorry sir ^_^. I understand you sir lol ^_^. But if you already did please please send me a message on my account ^_^. Because your demo is very useful to me ^_^. Thanks for the reply

  • if you already did, can you tell me the description of the video, please ^_^

  • Im on it...I didnt do it yet but I will....Progress goes slow when you have a baby in the house!!! :)

  • did you already post a video on how to paint/draw a metal?. If you already did, can tall what's the description of the video please ^_^. Hope you reply.

  • very nicley done , the oil paint realy did help :o ... how did you come up with such a tequnice? :o ...

  • Heres what happened: (Its a kinda sorta timeline)

1.) Learned the importance of layering from when I took courses in painting in college.

2.) Tried to paint when I got out of college and forced the issue for years. (Painting is such a time consuming process and I DIDNT feel like doing it after coming home from work.)

3.) Got EXTREMELY frustrated b/c I was creating so little

4.) Started to shift my materials to fit my needs- (I needed to find a process that wouldnt exhaust me even more)...more

  • 5.) Dabbled around for a while trying everything and forcing myself to finish a work in one day (SOME OF MY PAINTINGS HAVE TAKEN ME A YEAR TO MAKE!!!)

6.) I am still dabbling and I am sure that it will change again!!!

  • ty very much :o

im at point 2, in the senc ethat i think im forceing my self to focuse on things even if they dont fit my needs... i luv layering (which i found out from water colour) so hopefuly ill see where it leads me next

  • can u teach me painting or drawing a metal if possible. please please

  • Sure. It will be a while. I have had quite a few requests that I have agreed to first. Subscribe or check back in a few weeks. Thanks for commenting!

    MK

  • Could you make a video of how to get the black and white effect from my last comment??

  • So very well done. It's always a treat whenever you post a new video. Thanks for all of them.

  • I really appreciate that Dan. I want to share this news with you- As I am sure that you heard NYC is always in a budget crisis and they emiminated art at my school- the school that we did the spinning hat movie at (St. Hope). I will be fine. I am certified to teach History and I have a job lined up....But my heart is always with doing and teaching art...Just wanted to put your comment in perspective b/c my youtube channel will be the extent of my art teaching..so THANK YOU :)

  • this is great, very informative. i'm not very experienced with oil paints so good to see how other people use them. the final piece looks fantastic!

  • My way is very different than the traditional way of doing a painting...But its a great process to learn. I have dabbled in almost every artistic medium and there is nothing else out there that can duplicate the depth of an oil painting...the markers and color pencils are a quick way to build up the lower layers of color ...Thanks for the kind words!

    MK

  • nice bra

  • Oh my God that was beautiful and you are very very talented!!! :) Greetings from Romania :o) lol

  • Thank you Anita from Romania! I am glad that you liked it and I appreciate your kind words!

  • how did u do the shadow?

  • Which one? The one below the glass or on the side of the glass?

  • amazing!!! you helped me so muchhh

  • I am so glad that it helped! Keep asking questions! It is the best way to learn!

  • Thanks, I understand where the prismas come into play, and that they shouldn't be used as the last line of color in a piece. The picture ended up very nice, but I expected nothing less from you :D

  • I was just about to write you. They certainly can be the last line of color in a piece, but for me (I suppose that every artist figures out his/her own process) I like to add the color pencils and the paint. Thank you for the kind words! MK:)

  • WOW!!!!

  • Im glad you liked it! MK :)
