I wouldn't call it swing or jazz and there's no need to stick a label on it. Fuck labels, it's just very enjoyable, neat piece of music. I adore Nigel's violin in it.

Kennedy isn't trying to sound jazz. Nor does he try to sound rock, or any other genre of music. Kennedy's aim is to put a classical bent on everything he experiments with. Listen to his Hendrix or Doors covers, or any of his non-traditional performances and you will see, all are done with a classical influence. Kennedy is amazing, and I applaud him for his efforts to bring classical out of the mainstream and into more interesting contexts.

It's nice, but no Stéphane Grappelli. I think this guy makes wonderful music. And his jazz isn't bad either. But some classical I've heard from him... mindblowing! And not to speak of his interpretation of some Balkan music pieces! Very multi-talented (in music).

this is horrible, like the rest of the album. Nigel can't play jazz at all, he sounds like a beginner learning improv, because he is. Why doesn't he just stick to classical?? Also the pianist is a weak jazz player...

Swing 39 with a samba rhythm then transitioning to swing. Good job!

In the end, the groove changes every measure as dictated by the piano bass line that is pianissimo at this point in the piece. And again, good job, to Nigel Kennedy, his amazing orchestra, and the person who uploaded this. Thanks.

If you want to know what swing is then look at Stephane Grappelli, Didler lockwood, Benny Goodman or Coleman Hawkins. Specifically swing has to accent every beat strongly, the evolution of jazz is marked by the move away from this trend, this piece accents 1 and 3, most modern jazz is not locked into any accent style which creates the randomness and more composed sound of the style.

In a sense you are correct as the rhythm section (driven by the pianist) isn't swing, as it doesn't conform to traditional 4 beat tempo. I'd say it's more modern jazz., as the constant ad libbing and accents used by the rhyhm section constitutes to a more free and modern interpretation.

I agree. Kennedy's a fantastic musician, I'm not knocking that, but 'swing' implies 'swung' notes with a different stress on the notes. this is being played straight. It's still fab, though.
