This is pretty lame. These guys are just playing a bunch bullshit. This sounds like if a 14 year could shred really fast. The technique is there but the ideas are very boring things that have been done a lot.
@TehUberCyberBeast They aren't just playing blues scales. There was some dorian and mixo stuff in there too. It's still pretty tasteless soloing. These guys are good and I like some music that each of them has made but I just think this is not that good. What are you calling me bitch about, man? Because I didn't like a guitar solo? That seems pretty silly.
@fruitydickhole Well, maybe they stray out of the blues scale here and there, but you get my point. And you've got to remember that they're on stage having fun with improvisation; they're not sitting in their home studios writing the next best guitar solos.
Sorry, about calling you a bitch. I just felt like calling someone that yesterday for no reason. Lol. ;)
@TehUberCyberBeast Yeah. I see your point. I guess my point is kind of the same in that I don't think they are great improvisers. They are good at composing cool music but this improv isn't great. I mean, if they are having fun and are really behind what they are playing that's great but I don't like how it sounds. I'm really have more of a jazz background so I tend to hear a lot of really great improvisers. I guess that may cause me to judge this more harshly.
three highly talented guys. these may be 3 of the best ten guitarists on earth. but nothing about this would make me want to pick up a guitar. it's not very inspired at all. talent without soul is pretty much musical masturbation.

He's honestly so capable. As an avid fan of Dream Theater I know how unbelievably diverse he is. Especially when compared to players like Gilbert, he really can sound good with any genre.
How about that lick around 3:18 and his solo onwards. Phenomenal!
If Steve Vai was there, and Gilbert would put more Presence in his tone (this way we wouldnt hear that nasally noise in his tone), We would have G4, and it would be perfect. The guitarists would never need to change.
Omg, Petrucci's second solo starting at 3:16 was godly. I think Paul's tone didn't really fit. Satriani was solid as always. My favorite player on this song was by far Petrucci though.
right am i wierd in sayin that satch shud defo tryt and get buckethead on one of his G3 tours, maybe satch buckethead and gilbert or vai, thated be fucking immense the jams that they had
He was cool, he came down after the show was over and said he maybe could get Paul to come down. About 10 min later he did and Satch after him. My JP guitars got em all on it. Signed.
What a killer video!!! Thanks for posting it. I had seen the original G3 version but this is even better.
I was thinking before Joe's 1st solo...how would you be following Petrucci & then "Speedy Gonzales" Gilbert? And Joe is his usual cool self & delivers a wicked solo , with a tone most guitarists would kill to produce.
Do you mean bruce bouillet? Don't really know how to spell his last name but you get the point. He is most notably famous for being with Paul in the racer x days in the eighties. He was a former student of his at GIT.
petrucci rocks,he is different

@fruitydickhole There's only so much you can do when you're soloing strictly in the blues scale, bitch.

I much prefer the solos in this version to the Vai/ Satriani/ Johnson (although EJ's solo still kicked ass) verson. More feel, less tapping.
