  • Unfortunately thr guitarist lacks style...kind of dripples through a truely great classic.

  • bad guitar

  • Vernon showed his style to play this legendary song. if he was that bad, Jack wouldn't invite him to play this song with him thou

  • So good so far !...

  • The most awful version of this song... :-)

  • nothin' wrong with the song. Bruce has been singing it for 45 years now. He's got it down... : - )

  • this version sucks

  • this IS vernon style... jack invite him to the band, so, its not our problem

  • Richie ♥

  • Yup the guitar player fucked this song up, is that the clown from in living color?

  • @Sunburnt99 yes

  • WHAT on Earth is that guy doing to the guitar during his solo? Who does he think he's playing for? A speed metal band?

  • That guitar solo was just terrible, over distorted noise... and all I could hear was bongos all the way through :/

  • I love this song, Cream, Jack Bruce, Vernon Reid, etc....but this performance was awful. Way too much bongos, the mix was poor, The guitar solo was way to much for the song etc etc. Just didnt vibe well at all.

  • idk why,but i really don't like this song

  • I don't like Jack Bruce at all :( I prefer Entwistle for rock. I mean He plays fretless out of tune and does those ridiculous chord slides :( plus the guitar player's sound is a mess really :(

  • Funky Cream! Two of my faves: Jack Bruce & Bernie Worrell, y'all. Peace.

  • Bruce still overshone the guitarist during the dudes solo

  • Fuck off this cover!!

  • @AlterEgolatra you do understand that Jack Bruce wrote this song but yeah the performance was not good at all.

  • There are players and there are shredders. Shredders bore the funk out of me and yes, I'm a player who can shred for comic relief.

  • what the fuck

  • Jack Bruce, as always creative and willing to experiment, also when doing something so familiar as this song. A majority of the rock fans are probably rather conservative in their taste and/or want to put somebody in a certain category, but Jack Bruce is a real musical chameleon.

  • You need to be more respectful talking about Mr Vernon Reid. Clapton can really go home and playing for his dogs.

  • @ericjazz83 hahaha Amen!!!! .. i grew up listening to clapton as well but there are lots of great guitarists nowadays that can knock his sox offf

  • @ericjazz83 Reid couldn't carry Clapton's guitar pick

  • This version is fresh, energetic, and powerful. Vernon Reid is NOT Clapton - and that's a good thing. There's plenty of Clapton wannabees out there. Reid is an original and one of the few master guitarists who can keep up with Jack Bruce. I saw this group several times and they were truly unique and amazingly good. Jack never sits still - if you love him - you gotta go with him. He almost never lets you down.

  • @VIDJACK so true i saw them twice

  • im bassist and i love vernon and LC! but he is like all world guitarrist

    "constantly trying to get attention"

  • Vernon needs to lay of the harmonics a little

  • It's nice to hear something different from the classic rock station version that I've heard about 3,000,000,000 times ... but if repetition is your thing, you could always just put the record on.

  • Reid is a very good guitarist, but in this tune he's annoying as fuck, constantly trying to get attention...

  • What kind of guitar is Reid using?

  • looks like a Jackson...

  • @56BUICKRiviera Hamer.

  • greatest living bassist

  • Hello Vera,,

Sorry can't agree, Vernon sounds great to me. Excellent rendition.

  • vernon reid ruins this by tweaking harmonics on nearly everything and quite frankly his solo is vacuous nonsence, notice how he even crams in an irrelevent flourish at the end of the tune.I love jacks music but ididnt like this band when i saw em live...by comparison the band i saw in may 83 was phenomenal...at the mitchell theatre glasgow he,d lost his voice with flu so he put everything into the bass playing instead...i remember him whispering the vocals 2 the LIFETIME tune one word...fab

  • I love this version, and personally I think Vernon Reid is THE MAN.

Now, what about a funked up version with Nile Rodgers and Slash? Ha that would be something!

  • aloeveraqueen - spot on!

  • this is empty...no magic with that guitarist.

  • of course it's not the same without Clapton, but Vernon Reid is quite a great guitarist...

  • jack is back! geez... we all get older. wait till you hear some of his newer stuff. bassologist to the max, but THAT VOICE... my god, it's been where some of us will never! even in our dreams...

  • none of you know shit. dont write stupid comments unless you know what you are talking about.

  • some people get worde as they get older, not Jack Bruce

  • bruce and baker........try sinnging and playing bass

  • No comparison to the original.

  • Ditch that guitarist, geesh!

  • So, shoot me. I think this is a great collaboration.

It's a gorgeous update of one of the most iconic songs in the history of rock.

    I love this.

  • the guy on guitar totally ruins the song for me...

  • @johntygesen Totally disagree. I thought it was a very exciting and refreshing guitar solo.

  • @johntygesen He's just like Zack Wylde is live, just making every other note squeal......

  • @johntygesen why? He's very very good. colorful cream-a-delic

  • @johntygesen everyone besides jack ruins it for me, the drumming is way off, the added keys and bongs plus theyre guitarist doesnt do good either.

  • @johntygesen -- How bout them sweet bongos.

  • jumpin jebus! that bass line at 3:50 with the geetar rox!

  • i think the warwick sounds pretty good- and dig jack's voice man! hes got all his high notes intact- my guess is he never smoked or cut it out young

  • Fuckin' Warwick bass with shit sound... Why he doesn't play EB-3 Gibson? Or EB-0?? THAT is the sound of mahogany.

  • Maybe it's those Hartke bass cabinets...

  • isaw these guys in nyc jacks best band

  • This is really good man. It makes the song jazzy, but harder at the same time.

  • I just saw this train wreck on Jools and had to see if youtube would give me the opportunity to comment. Too many notes... its like these guys are trying to impress a talent scout by playing their full repertoire in one song. These grooveless fools have successfully filled every space to create a relentless cacophony. Robbie and El Negro could learn a thing or two from Stubblefield and Jabo, and Flores should lay off the pseudoephedrine.

How to murder, rape and defecate a great song 101!

  • I actually agree with mickarse to a certain extent. Stop giving this post a thumbs down for expressing his opinion...

I think the point he was trying to make is that Vernon Reid destroys this song in a bad way... playing way too fast with as many notes as possible, with no feeling or soul, and Jack Bruce's bass sounds like crap honestly... and he's one of my original main influences. :(

What the hell are you doing Jack? :(

  • Thanks for the support Fretfeeler. I think Jack might be canvassing his buddies to log on and give me the thumbs down eh?

I think you're right about Vernon but I am more distracted by the wall of 32nd notes coming from the rhythm section hence my comment about Flores. I have played with percussionists in the past that feel compelled to fill every possible gap in the music. And they don't even realise! Personally, I think it's what you DON'T play that counts.

  • I agree... knowing when NOT to play is perhaps more important than knowing how to play an instrument in the first place... but honestly I think the percussion here was trying to make up for the fact that there was no

Ginger Baker on drums, so they were trying to fill the emptiness. :)

  • hahaha...

    ...if that was their objective:

    mission accomplished!

  • Nah, all that percussion does NOT equal Ginger Baker. Mission failed. ;)

I still like Jack Bruce's vocals though, even if his bass playing has gone majorly downhill. I'm not sure why, but his bass tone sounds like pure dogshit here.

I think he's overplaying as well, probably because he's surrounded by incompetent musicians... :(

I still love you Jack... one of my main musical influences. :)

  • I thought their mission was to fill every void?

    Mission accomplished!! :)

  • amen brother.

  • nice vid

  • Richie Flores is a BEAST on the Conga!

  • What a great performance of a great song. Jack is pure excellence and Vernon Reed is a terrific guitar player and a very friendly man. I saw him once in a small club in Velden/Austria playing before maybe 100 people and talking friendly with anybody who wanted to after the concert.

  • one of a kind

  • jacks the best
