  • the stars dimmed a little at your passing, their twinkle lost their lustre..... you are sorely missed and warmly remembered........

  • RIP, sweet Blossom. You will be remembered and sorely missed.

  • Although her voice lacked any volume, she was indeed one of my very favorites performers. I've always loved her!....and, I miss her!.....God Bless you sweetheart!...

  • Yummy !

    Yes.

  • love it

  • thank for posting she is still missed

  • Superb.

  • All her life she could sing. I heard a recording of Neil Diamond from last year. His voice is going. He's getting old. Blossom kept... blossoming. I just learned of her passing. Now I'm sad.

  • I am looking for her song that goes: " I want to take complete control of you... the north the south the east the west of you ..."

does any one know what that song is called or what album it belongs to?

    thank you

  • @sepidehjan

The song is called "All of You", and it's by Cole Porter. Can't help on the Blossom track. Happy hunting.

  • Rainy day, windows open, in the arms of the one you love, with Blossom playing her songs. Sublime.

  • Lovely - and I think the way she handles "I am simply thunderstruck / at this change in my luck" is interesting. Not the phrasing I'd anticipated...

  • I heard Alicia Keys (of all people) play and sing with Marian McPartland in circa 2004 on her radio show. She improvised some standards along with Marian at the end of the show and held her own. However, her talent in the area of song and self-accompaniment and subtle stylings will never be featured because that's not "marketable." Looks have overshadowed talent in this day and age. I think all would agree.

  • Beatiful harmonies, pretty voicings. I think her piano playing is very underrated as it is in Shirley Horn´s case. They both played perfect accompaniment for a singer ( a rare art indeed) and did not indulge in needless runs all over keyboard. And of course they both sang great !

  • Completely agree! Very underrated pianist. Always left room, and never rushed.

  • Thanx for posting these, JGC. This is one Blossom that should be in everyone's musical garden. A truly great original.

  • I was blessed to have played the bass with you my Darling Blossom. You are unique, nobody can ever replace you. Looking forwardf to our meeting again in the great beyond.

    Love Always,

    Kenneth Ernest (Kenny Baldock)

  • Thank you so much for posting this touching tribute - I had the great (and unexpected) privilege of hearing Blossom Dearie live at Joe's Pub in June 2006; the event was called Intimate Nights and if I remember correctly she was the only performer who sang two numbers that night! (Don't suppose you were the bassist?) Wonderful, wonderful artist!

  • Many thanks...................!

  • Oleta Adams does and more.

  • Heaven. Does ANYONE sing or play like this anymore? She is greatly missed.

  • she lived life beautifully

    gone but not forgotten

  • We're all lucky to have found Blossom Dearie.

    God bless you.

  • When I listen to "L'Etang" I feel I'm in a 'Fifties Jean Paul Belmondo movie

She makes everything black & white

she had an amazing genius for evoking an atmosphere all her own - very sophistocated and the ultimate in COOL

I LONGED to see her live - every single time I go past Ronnie Scott's for YEARS I check the Coming Attractions board outside and would look for her name

    Now I don't need to

  • Only just heard the sad news. Thanks so much for posting the video.

  • thank you sooooo much for posting this. I miss her terribly. Saw her at Danny's Seafood in nyc a few years ago and made one of many dreams come true.

  • I first saw Blossom Dearie perform on The Mike Douglas Show (?) - she played Lush Life, and it was an eye opener for me. There was something so moving about her voice; she didn't clobber you with her mastery, but you knew you were listening to a master musician. This is a song Bill Evans loved to play - very fitting, very beautiful. Unfortunately, I never got to see her in person, but at least I have a number of her albums. Fly away, little jazz bird.

  • I don't believe this! Something told me to type in Blossom Dearie to look for some clips and I now this instance find out that she passed away last week. I 've loved this woman's work since the 80's when I happened to see her on a british day time tv show. A truly unique talent.

  • what a tremendous tribute to herself, her unique, spoken style and to the to the composers. love her.

  • What a fantastic pianist .

  • Simply beautiful.

  • I'm so sad at her passing but what a legacy!

  • Exquisite. Thanks Blossom!

  • Sweet songbird thank you for the music!!

  • R.I.P. Blossom.

  • @JGC255

I second that emotion! What a lovely lady & unique talent she was. That voice of hers was like NO one else. She is sorely missed! Thanks for your comment!

  • A unique and sublime artist!

  • Isn't se just yummy? What a fantastic performer, thanks for posting it!! 5**
