no you don't. first register your game with EA, with your EA game account (you need to make one if you don't already have one). then, once that's finished, start the game CNC3, go to the multiplayer tab, click "online". then, type your EA account name in its appropriate tab, same with your EA account password. then type a screen name so people'll know you by that name.

see your game manual for the different types of matches. i'm running out of space in the text field.
