  • Hahahahahaaaaahgahahahahahaha! It's shit.

  • Why does the voltage climb on your DMM? I noticed it happens also with my DMM and the only way to stop it is to press the backlight button. Is this a sign of a cheap / dodgey DMM?

  • seen just about all your blogs...

Im surprised there are people here who disagree with you when you clearly have a passion for multimeter and as far as im concerned you are the master of meters. I can only hope that as a job you design multimeters to be honest.

Thank you for all the wonderful videos you have posted (and i was very impressed with your clock lag idea (the under water dataloggers)). I shall be attending warwick uni to do EE soon and i shall advise you as a good reference ;D!!!!!!!

  • this video really got the trolls going didnt it lololol

  • @TimeForTimer This was't a review. Check out my $100 multimeter shootout.

  • Actually man, you FAIL... Fluke for example, is THE best Dvom out on the market and its design is exactly like the Ideal. I'm an ASE certified tech and rarely do I set my meter up on its stand. Talk to just about any tech, if they do use the stand, they'd more than likely prop it up against something that wouldn't allow it to fall. That's just common sense man.

  • @NoSurrenderX25 Bullshit. You should have watched my follow-up video before making a fool out of yourself.

  • @NoSurrenderX25 Seriously, people, THAT'S your complaint? Can we get more complacent and spoiled these days? I agree that it's common sense. It probably says in the manual even that the easel is to make viewing easier if you so choose to use it, but if you're going to push the stinkin' buttons, then hold the damn thing or prop it down, it's not that difficult. This product is freakin' amazing compared to something that would be Chinese-made that would have electrical mistakes galore!

  • who would of known you'd want to press a button with the stand out!! i bet that saved them 10cents!

  • this is not a product designer's work. usually this stuff is made by the engineers, as the designer only makes the optical design and if something like this would appear, it is the work of engineers to fix that before production. but it's really a dumb fail...

  • @ecco88 There is a thin line between a designer and an engineer. In any case the designer task is to implement the usability, interaction and looks as defined by the cliënt.

But the looks of a device will tell the user how to use it. So if this meter falls over it is a Bad design. It made the user think it could operate the device in a standing position.

  • @joerideman Good explanation. Regardless of who designed it, obviously no one bothered to test it with the buttons standing up. Or if they did, they didn't care that it was unstable. For those who claim I'm being picky and it doesn't matter, watch my follow up video where I compare it to 20 other meters. None of them fall over, but this one does. Fail.

  • Fail! You are right. I didn't use the meter in the bench too much, since I work in the cars, but I just tryed to push the buttons in my Fluke 88 in the bench and guess what? SOLID LIKE A ROCK!!!!!!! Ja ja ja. Fluke is the best! Regards!

  • Epic File!!!!!

  • If I'm gonna pay $100 for a damn meter I would want the damn thing to stand up if I need to press the buttons and not have the damn thing fall over.

So much for the 'Ideal' brand meter. >.>

  • i'd be pissed if i'd bought that

  • LOL.

  • Looking forward to the multimeter shootout review!

  • that is quite bad, but you could probably fix it easily with a tooth pick and some tape or glue.

  • @emus1attack lol hes australian macgeyver too (:

  • @emus1attack For a $100 product, you shouldn't NEED to fix it with toothpicks and glue out of the box.

  • Quite right! Your criticism is spot on. Getting a meter 99% of the way right and then allowing the 1% wrong to be annoyance to even 10% of the potential customers is an Epic fail. I've looked around for a Fluke 87 in my lab for 10 min before picking up a meter I dislike.

  • While funny, it's quite overkill to call this shit, and ruined.

It definitely looks like the stand is there to have it be readable while on a table, not be used while on a table. Whatever, still funny.

  • I have a different model Ideal meter that doesn't tip over no matter where on the face you press it.... so yeah. they certainly could have made this one the same way.

  • @migsantiago

This clearly wasn't a review. It's just something I observed and wanted to share quickly before the full shootout of the 5 $100 meters.

I think it's rude they designed a meter that doesn't stand up on the bench properly.

  • @EEVblog hello.

I'm new to your blogs and i watched allot of them on the last few days, trying to figure out which multimeter to buy. I ended up buying the fluke 289, but i'm not 100% happy with my purchase.

While watching i noticed that you'r a fun-boy of the top brands like fluke and it's effecting your judgment!!! I'm not trying to be rude here, but it's what i noticed while watching the videos.

  • @comsoft

The best evidence to that is your Thumbs up for Agilent u1253a and the follow up video of exuses why you stand behind it.

The fact that Agilent is behind the product does not automatically give it a "thumb up"!!

  • @comsoft On the opposite, if a cheap Chinese company will have a bad soldering and 8 hour battery, i can close my eyes, i cannot expect too much from a cheap meter. but from a company like Agilent which you pay for the brand name, you expect MUCH MUCH more , especially on the quality side. So to see a product from this company with a bad soldering quality, is THE reason to give a THUMB down!!!

  • Epic fail. They didn't include booster-rockets to counteract the pressure.

  • Hiper shit!

  • Comment removed

  • i would respectfully submit that the product is designed for handheld primarily and then for prooping up for viewing while making probes....your criticism is a bit over the top .....

  • @cityshots

Crikey, have you ever used a multimeter on the bench?

If it's a got a tilting bail then it's designed to be used upright on the bench, that includes pressing the buttons. It fails.

  • lol!

  • maybe more costly, how about a touch sensative meter keypad, then it might stay on back stand !
