Malachai2012.....Tainos are related to arawakans but changed name, customs and language during migrated from south america into carribeans and to florida also onto yucatan peninsula...oh one more arrived to hawaii too.
DNA research is showing that the we the Taino people are not extinct. The view that a few Tainos were left in the island was taught by the Spaniards to justify taking over Borinquen.
Hey, I didn't know Puerto Ricans had indian blood. I just thought you guys were only White or Black. Well my mom is from Mexico and she is mostly of Russian (yeah they move to Latin-America too) decent and her grandmother is a FULL BLOODED Yaqui Indian from Sonora. I can still see some indian features in her and myself.
I recently learned I am a descendant of Agueybana's group, from the cacicazgo of Guaynia. My great grandmother was a taina from what is now guayanilla.
I also learned that the taino's did not think of the spaniards as Gods, but as "White Lords" of another place and were hospitable until Diego Salcedo asked to be carried on their backs across the river. They did so until they reached the middle. Then they sat on him and drowned him on purpose, for his arrogance.
I am Jurakán, proud son of Adelaida, genetic daughter of "Atabex", the one who lived in Siberia about 35,000 years ago. I also underwent a DNA test performed by the University of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico in 1999. I am as arrogant as I can be when it comes to defending our Taíno heritage. I salute you, Adelaida, now sitting next to Yocahú on top of the Yuqué Mountain. Jan jan catú! (So be it).
It just so happens that the parts of the Caribbean beginning with Jamaica, haity and dominican republic had the most exposer to the African slaves making those cultures appear the way they do. Spain, italy, ireland and english settlers mainly mixed with the Tainos in Cuba and Puerto Rico. But again, it varied where you see that there are blacks and whites in the Caribbean as each island has its own amount of shades more and less.
As with the rest of the world and throughout American history, Africans were brought over by boats thus, the blacks that exist throughout each culture in the Caribbean. Originally there were no blacks in the Caribbean, it's only inhabitants were the Taino native that each of the cultures which make up the Caribbean share in common.
Puerto Ricans are made up of 2 predominant cultures.Spaniards and the Taino. The Italian, Jewish,Irish and even some Chinese blood is also there too but not in big amounts or even in all Puerto Ricans.Yes we are Caucasian because we have Spaniard, Italian and Irish blood(European decent). But we are Puerto Rican first because of our unique mix.The correct term for Puerto Ricans that have Afro American blood is Afro-Puerto Rican.Wich did not happen til the end ofthe Spanish colonial period. 1800s.
if you look at many you will find that they have over 60 to 74% native taino blood. i am 1/2 Mohawk and taino. my sister who is 1/2 sister got a dna don and she was told to have 72% native blood. i was told i have 10% non native blood. all native in the us say that the Puerto Ricans and other spanish people are native. look it up wake up.
Puerto Ricans are a mix of Taino Indian, European (mainly from Spaniard from Southern Spain) and African (Yoruba, Congo, Mandinga and others........). Studies have shown that roughly 60% of the Puerto Ricans on the island possess some Taino ancestry through the maternal side. The same study also shows that roughly 30% of Puerto Ricans on the island have a female sub Saharan ancestor and 20% have a male sub Saharan African ancestor.
well sort of....when the spaniards came they killed off a lot of taino indians....they also raped the women (i heard they also married them sometimes)....some of these babies were "bred" with african slaves...for this reason you have a lot of dark skinned puerto ricans...but puerto ricans have mostly european blood & thats y so many of us look white
The majority of pueroto ricans are not a mix of african slaves and tainos but a mixture of spanish and tainos. 65% of puerto ricans have some trace of indian blood and 80% of the population have european blood. Now there is about 20% who are african. But to say that the majority of puerto ricans are black is false. If you go to puerto rico you would find out that the alot of the pouplation even considers themselves white( althought i disagree) im proud of my spanish(european) and taino blood.
when the spainards invaded Puerto Rico...they force themself on Tainas and african women......it sounds much better that why mi amor! there puerto rican that have all 3 bloods...and afro-Boricua that have taino blood as well.......y yo soy Boricua pa" que tu lo sepa.......I know alot of Boricua that look white as hell that have african blood in them.......and even when the queen from spain try to keep Puerto rico all white...it fail.......
also i have other native blood that my grandma told me of aztek, mayan and another indian blood she told me that some of her ancestors came from chile..and i have a cousin in mexico that is african, indian, and spanish lol pretty cool
Um Dominican's are Taino's too im a proud Mestizzo[indian/spaniard] or Criole better yet since africans indians & spaniards all mixed in the hispanola's back then during colombus times..
.... Am taino indian too and i look more taino then you and i dont really care, people confuse me for columbian or south american sometimes too. Remember this, your race is not important, your nation is important, Because when people value things as race
it promotes ideas of racism and all that does is divide people.
I am extremely proud to have been born & raised in America, but won't forget my roots. Are you kidding me?All of my friends are proud to know that the people before them are the reason why they're even alive and are who they are whether it be Native American, African America, Latin American and so on. Be who you are but don't throw around the false idea that being proud of your anscestors blood running through you is racist.
I am Taino from Santo Domingo. My blood flows with Taino pride. Arawaks beliefs are in me and will always. We are >>>>>>>>>>Tainos.

Very nice video.
Can someone in the know answer this question...
The Puerto Ricans of today... are they a mix of African Slaves and Taino Indians?
Is this why a lot of Puerto Ricans have Negro features?
Thank you.

I'm well aware of the fact that we, Boricuas, are (when it comes down to it) inter-mixed, I'm not arguing that.
