Imagine if the 70+ people aboard a rush-hour streetcar chose to drive along the same route instead, how much traffic congestion do you think that would create?
@gricer1326 Your idea is to get the cars out of downtown? Good luck with that. You know what blocks those cars that create congestion? Streetcars. Making the congestion worse.
@bassplayer923 My idea is not to get the cars out of downtown, but the cars are creating problems for the streetcars, not the other way around. I think there are ways to manage traffic better (such as prioritizing some streets for cars and others for transit, bikes, and pedestrians), but the reason we have traffic problems is not that we have streetcars, but that we don't have enough of them. We don't have enough transit in general. Don't expect you buddy Ford to help the situation.
I am a conservative and i support electric lrt transit! Mayor Rob Ford is a oil-can fan, and needs to be held accountable by Toronto's public, he does'nt care about public transportation, and he needs to realize that buses are not enjoyable to ride on, but streetcars are
Actually, the definition of LRT does not include "just streetcars". The term was created in response to new systems in places such as Germany that were basically subways with level crossings. There is quite a distinction between those and the trams that also serve the same cities. As well, the SRT is not an LRT by any means (even in theory), because it has a 3rd rail, making it incapable of having level crossings - the whole point of LRT.
@reaperexpress The definition of LRT is rather vague, as it essentially encompasses any form of rail transportation that carries less people than heavy rail. So the SRT (each car having the capacity equivalent to a bus) and streetcars are both forms of light rail, as is SEPTA's Norristown line. LRT (light rapid transit) is more a transit city/los angeles blue line type setup.
nice video, but it could've used some music.

Streetcars need to go back in the garbage cans, they create so much traffic congestions.

That's right, I said it.
