  • Justin..... I love you

  • viagra

  • This song reminds me of the viagra commercial! XD

  • Brill as usual -jn :-)

    DONT FRET FB

  • sounds a lot like suzieQ

  • @TDBhCorsica suzieq sounds like this

  • I'm getting there. Doing those bass notes are the real trick but keep it slow at first like he said and should have it by the end of the day. Great vid Justin!

  • nice blues

  • Sooooo hard to keep the thumb going through this lick. I have been playing a lazy man's version of this where my thumb drops out at certain points. Great lesson here...really breaks it down.

  • Thanks Justin. Learning with Justin is fun. I am just learning, this is the guy who makes it fun and easy to learn. Right on Justin, love your style!

  • Grateful Dead has a good version too on the "Bears Choice" album.

  • Man, this is one coll lick I have never learned. It is harder than I thought it was going to be! I keep wanting to mess with the base line!!

  • You, sir, are good, sir.

  • I've been missing this lessons due to the stupid new homepage layout.

  • Amazing! Pretty weird, i heard the Electric Prunes version of it today, on the Stockholm '67 record. Amazing lession, thanks!

  • very good!! fantastic music!

  • correction to my first reaction

i meant hawkins instead of dawkins:p

  • Also John Lennon stole part of it with "Do the Oz" and the Kinks with "Last of the Steam Powered Trains".

  • @daregularperson

And Dale Dawkins did the same with his Suzie Q

CCR probably didn't took the riff from Hubert Sumlin but took it along from Dale Dawkins while covering Suzie Q.

  • Check out Primitive by The Groupies. It is by far the most raw and evil rendition of Smokestack Lightning. Amazing. Second to the original only.

  • Weheee!!

    Delta blues at last:D

Thank you Justin you're better than Santaclaus!

  • Amateurs borrow, Professionals Steal.

Smokestack was composed in 1956.. CCR boldly stole it.

  • @stannardbill I like the phrase boldy stole there like it's a greek legend or something. And lo, they braved the howling wolves and the smokestacks of lightning to boldy steal the riff for the common folk and the common folk heard the riff and were so afraid!

  • isn't that a riff from CCR?

  • cool lick!

  • Soundgarden's "cover" is the best :)

  • Well for a 'Skinny white kid' you're freaken awesome Justin! Subscribed and thank you

  • im not sure why but bobbing my head like you do actually made me play it easier and get the timing better between thumb and rest of it...

without the head bob im way off

  • does anyone know the tab for this song?

Good lesson but not sure if all the notes are mentioned.

    After the 2-4 slide on g I think he's playing b3 g4-g2 g0 d2 d0 I think and then i'm lost..

  • @kingshearer2

    Then again d2,

second time round he doesn't play e3 & b3 simultaneously but just b3 without the "blues curl"

  • @Davideinum Ta. I'll give that a go.

  • 6.32 hahaha that is funny

  • thank you so much! chip chip cheerio! is there a meaning for smokestack lightning?

  • tnx mate - you rock! keep up the good job ;)

  • you rock!

  • this riff is really annoying

  • @mikesomething yes, but it sneaks in to your ear and... it does not let go

  • Again you made my day!!! Great lesson- because I have the same awesome amp even my sound is great!!!!

  • Unreal, just made up a random driving cd, Smokestack track no 5,, Justin are you psychic ?? as well as brilliant !!!

  • Just REALLY weird!! I was just listening to this song! Love the Wolf. If you play guitar and don't play blues it's like being a chef and never cooking with any delicious greasy fat.

  • @jkinthewind that is the best analogy i have ever heard.

  • I really tink you should consider making a video lesson of black hole sun by soundgarden. It's a very nice riff

  • It's always nice to go back to the roots of rock 'n roll, give me some more blues bro!

  • Sounds like that one part in Suzie Q.

  • @Rfprimm yeah that's what I was thinking too

  • Hey awesome riff... I learned this off a Sawlon video about a year ago. This also happens to be the riff playing on the current Viagra commercials... Thanks Justin!

  • Jimi Hendrix was a big howlin' wolf fan, loving the lessons justin man once am a working man ill be donating some money

  • @CobainMustaine not only Hendrix Clapton aswell he paid for the mans tombstone. Howlin Wolf one of the greatest singers of alltime

  • @diamondcarnivore Cool I never knew that and I agree, you must be doing something right if Hendrix and Clapton admire you anyway

  • Sweet riff. Could be played with a Bass Guitarist playing the low E notes, but cooler this way if you can manage.

  • Jesus bit of hostility there can't we all just get along. Bu the way nice little lesson there and good advice on learning fingerpicking.

  • First!
