  • The most authentic performance of this piece at present.

  • quite a beautiful music..

This can be called 'sweet but sad song'.

  • if i were watching this without the audio, i'd still be amazed. these guys are legit yo. even the smallest movements are purposeful and controlled. i aspire to play with such musicianship!!! bravo!

  • this is in b flat major

  • @Imbetterthanmost its in g sharp minor (5 sharps) while i write this know that i have the 1st violin music on my lap

  • @kirill429 lol actually I was mistaken, it says D major.... are you sure you're aren't looking at another movement

  • @Imbetterthanmost im looking at movement 2 (Andante Cantabile) g sharp minor, my favorite, if you zoom in real close around 3:54, you can see more blur in the begining of the staff indicating that more ink was used and that it had to be used in a large amnt of flats/sharps key signature; i checked it out as best as i could and found it to not resemble anything less than 4-5 sharps/flats. idk check it out for yourself

  • @kirill429 btw, is this major or minor? it sounds a lot like a mixture of both

  • @kirill429 Oh get a grip, will you. If you listen to the music (or watch the violinists' fingers) you'll know what key it's in. It opens and closes in B flat major and the middle section, where the second theme is introduced, is in D flat major. That a piece is notionally in D major doesn't mean a lot about the inner movements, e.g. the Rachmaninov D minor PC has a second movement with a chunk in D flat major. I've no idea what you have in G#m unless it's a transposition. My part is in B flat.

  • @RichardMartin2 arright, i may have a transposition, but my music says g#m well have to agree to disagree

  • Beautiful and angelic sounding. All i have been able to do is listen to it over and over again. I am planning on playing it this year but the brass quartet version.

  • This piece made Tolstoy cry.

  • A sad song, but sweet. Bravo!

  • ah-mazing

  • this movement brings me to tears every time i listen to it. their tones....heavenly.

  • beautful! i wonder how it would sound with a solo violin with/without an orchestra..

  • i love this piece

  • @eddyabc1 me too!

  • Zero dislikes.

Let's keep this up; this is a beautiful piece of music.

  • Sadly, Mr. Berlinsky has left us. I got to see them perform here in Savannah in2007, right at the end of his career. An amazing musician, and a wonderful quartet.

  • only 1997 viewers for such a superb performance... from ‎2:25 to 3:47 my favorite part!!!!!! Fantastic music!!!!!!! Mikhail Kopelman (first violin) and Valentin Berlinsky (Cello) are great masters!!! they are A M A Z I N G!!! thanx for sharing!!!

  • lastly someone uploaded this! I was looking for this from long time...thanks

  • Initially I thought this piece was originally was for cello and orchestra - only discovered until much that the more viewed renditions of Tchaikovsky's Andante Cantabile was taken from his String Quartet No.1.

The first violinist - oh my god.He has full command of his instrument;has such an aura of intimate familiarity with the piece. And when he starts playing in the lower registry around 5:20 - incredibly full sound.Never heard such a mellow, voluminous G.

    Played like true professionals.
