To the viewers: Please don't ask question aimed at the poster of this video, SpindleRecords, as Marc Bird, founder and poster, Passed away Jan 6, 2009. I am currently downloading the video's just in case something happens to this channel. His computer with almost everything on it crashed a week after I hooked it back up. Guess not using it for a year while I sold our house and looked for a new one wasn't good for it. I can't get on his page cuz IDK his password. Gonna put on mine.
The Newbeats biggest hit (and the only one that ever receives any airplay) was Bread And Butter. Run Baby Run was another song they did in late 1965. Larry, the guy in the center, later wrote Wind Beneath My Wings which became a major hit for Bette Midler.
Larry Henley had that wacky singing voice, but it sure got our attention!
Is there a video of Run Baby Run? I've seen the video of Bread and Butter (search Shindig! #3, part 2 of 3.. its here). But have always loved Run Baby Run for its excitement, great beat, bass line, and have never convinced any band I was in to DO it! I'd love to make a big production of it!
We must have Similar Taste(s) in-Music ... I've always had the Same Problem with Fellow Band Members , trying to work Some 1950s and 1960s Classics into Our Repertoire.
@danje10: Got introduced to this band by my mother's original 45 of "Run Baby Run" when I was about 8 years old. I'm now 33 and am now just seeing actual footage of these guys. They were something else. Larry Henley's voice...now that was UNIQUE!
Does anyone remember Lou Christie's "Shake Hands & Walk Away Cryin" from Mar-Apr 1967 - although not at all related to the Newbeats song, the titles are strangely similar - for those who havent heard it, it's classic Lou Christie (a la Rhapsody in the Rain or Lightnin Strikes) - I honestly feel it's one of the best songs he's done.
I know it well and I agree that it's one of his best although Lou had many other great songs. It's a pity there are so few good period clips of him on You Tube - there must be many more out there.
No, and to tell you the truth, when I heard the song for the first time back in the '60's, it surprised me. I can sing it just about like he does . hehehe His voice isn't real low, though.
I haven't spoken to him in about three years. I need to call I guess.
Great record-a wonderful combination of country and pop-real Good Time Music-wonder the Searchers never covered this one as its close in parts to Needles and Pins.
Just a moment in time which would lead to Sandy Posey and the remergence of Jody Miller in the 70s.
Never heard this one before.... thanks for posting it!!

Does anyone know if the Newbeats are still around? Some of the other bands are still performing and I was just wondering if the Newbeats were.

Yes, they are. The blond is my cousin Larry Henley, who incidentally co-wrote "Wind Beneath My Wings"

Just out of curiosity, does your cousin's speaking voice sound anything like his singing voice? (I find myself chuckling at the thought of that).
