I drive alot of highway miles and I put over 400,000 miles on my Honda Civic. The only thing ever replaced was oil and tires. My GM neighbour buddy put 2 tranny's on his GM van after only 30,000 miles. I mean duh?? Don't be a fool, be smart buy an import!! Eventually everyone on our street drove Hondas and Toyotas. Actually it was a local joke if anyone was driving a GM, Ford or Chrysler we thought they were really stupid or just ill informed. It became socially unaccpetable to drive a domestic.

Thanks Mr. Honda/Toyota guy....I had 1 GM car years ago a Pontiac. The thing was a piece of garbage. From the radio to the tranny nothing worked. It spent more time in the shop then on the road. I cursed that car more than the Red Sox in a play-off game. The only guy happy to see me was the tow truck dude. "Oh you again" he always said. I asked him what kinda car he drives. He said a Honda and it never breaks. So I bought one too. 4 Hondas later proved he was 1 smart tow truck dude! (Non union)

I had a 94 Honda Prelude Si with a JDM H22A motor swap and now own a 2002 Acura RSX Type S, both manual trannies. I never knew that driving could be so fun.

North American cars are garbage. Over priced pieces of crap. I worked for a GM dealership years ago and found a piece of human shit in the door of a Cadillac placed there by an unioned autoworker. The car stunk for weeks and we cleaned the thing each time the customer brought it back. Finally we had to take the car apart and sure enough a unionized GM worker had a dump and threw his crap in door and welded it shut. I am glad the big 3 are going bankrupt. They make and sell all kinds of crap.

Ummm, no cars on the road right now other than the Prius could be consider anything close to "green". We need a lot more than 35MPG (which is pathetic) to get people what they want. We want ELECTIC just like the "who killed the electric car" move. They CAN do it and they will if they like to stay in business.

THat may be but they are a no dealer that I have seen. They need to be standard, no more non hybrids. We need electric cars (completely electric) within the next 5 to 10 years and no later if they want to survive. I am tired of the wars for oil.

there is no reason for an auto maker that tightens bolts to make $45-50 per hour with only a high school dimploma...they expect too much and are underqualified...120 days is also a rediculous

There are a bunch of smoking guns here. Yes, America is building cars that just don't compare to the competition. But UAW wage/benefit packages don't compare to the competition, either. UAW argues that $28/hr with 100+ days vacation is reasonable for skilled labor - but bolting the same fender on 7.25 hours/day isn't skilled labor. Meanwhile, non-union American Honda/Toyota workers seem satisfied with their jobs and don't think the big 3 or the UAW deserve a bailout.
