While I don't like these semi-confrontational acts of zealousness (especially when amplifiers are involved- they're painfully loud to some of us) these cops do seem to have overstepped their powers. That is, assuming the codes listed in the video are complete and in context. The officers did show selective enforcement, and compounded matters by trying to tamper with the public documenting of the arrest.

So for his own safety the cop did the only he could do remove him from the en cited crowd. Now when he began to resist that was just plain foolish on his part. Its a felony in MO to resist arrest and he should have been sentenced for it. Always obey your local law enforcement.

ok, I see your point. Mine is that the cops took an oath to uphold the constitution and defend it...which means defend the rights of the people against those who would invade or abridge those rights. The preacher had every right under the constitution and the laws to do what he was doing. If there was to be violence, it was not the preacher's doing. The cops owed the preachers the duty to protect them against those who would use violence...not to infringe the preacher's lawful conduct.
You have to have a balance though between upholding constitutional rights and Just a little common sense. The problem this young man had was he was too passionate about what he was doing That he let his passion override his common sense. And get a resisting arrest charge. If any judge ever saw this video they would say the exact same thing. Police aren't perfect. There men, they make mistakes, but the major mistakes here were being done by the preacher. Resisting, not complying, just silly.

While I don't like these semi-confrontational acts of zealousness (especially when amplifiers are involved- they're painfully loud to some of us) these cops do seem to have overstepped their powers. That is, assuming the codes listed in the video are complete and in context. The officers did show selective enforcement, and compounded matters by trying to tamper with the public documenting of the arrest.
As much as I dislike the message of these fundies, I hope these cops were fired.

Communists (atheists) killed more Christians than even Hitler. I would have to say the officer did exactly the right thing. He asked him to stop using the microphone so the crowd did not become more enraged. The young man seemed to want to enrage the crowd. So for his own safety the cop did the only he could do remove him from the en cited crowd. Now when he began to resist that was just plain foolish on his part. Its a felony in MO to resist arrest and he should have been sentenced for it. Always obey your local law enforcement.

no one has to "follow" a cop's (they are not acting as peace officers) unlawful orders. Did you see the city ordinance displayed on the video? Can you read?
The cops unlawfully assaulted and battered at least two people and falsely arrested and imprisoned the street preacher.
I hope the street preacher sue the "hell" out of those cops in federal court!

Isn't it a good idea to keep yourself out of trouble by obeying the system of laws that are in place? That also includes obeying the peace officers that are enforcing them. Fanatical Christian often have bad habits of going into places where theres heavy drinking and lots of people to preach. These officers were protecting this guy from getting killed. They can't help it if he mentally challenged.

The passage you are probably thinking of (paraphrasing)...be subject to those who govern over us; they are appointed by God...has to do with the spiritual leaders God has put over the Church, not political leaders.
It's a cop's duty to protect the preachers who go and preach the gospel among the wicked. It is the wicked who need to obey the law and respect the preacher's right of free speech.

Umm. I kind of have to disagree here my friend. Although I do admire the young mans courage and tenacity to preach religion to the sinners. He was given a direct order by a peace officer to quit using the megaphone. Ordinance or not The peace officer was doing just in fact that. Keeping the peace. This guy was in dangerous territory here. If the preaching continued this mans life may have been in jeopardy. The cop can't get the 100s to leave. But he can disfuse the situation by removing the prob

ok, I see your point. Mine is that the cops took an oath to uphold the constitution and defend it...which means defend the rights of the people against those who would invade or abridge those rights. The preacher had every right under the constitution and the laws to do what he was doing. If there was to be violence, it was not the preacher's doing. The cops owed the preachers the duty to protect them against those who would use violence...not to infringe the preacher's lawful conduct.

You have to have a balance though between upholding constitutional rights and Just a little common sense. The problem this young man had was he was too passionate about what he was doing That he let his passion override his common sense. And get a resisting arrest charge. If any judge ever saw this video they would say the exact same thing. Police aren't perfect. There men, they make mistakes, but the major mistakes here were being done by the preacher. Resisting, not complying, just silly.

How the hell can someone be too passionate? Are we not to have any emotion these days? when will that be a crime? Where was the passion of the crowd to stop the police for assaulting these people? Lawsuits are picked up by the tax money, so this has no effect on the police. How does this hurt the men delivering pain? EYE FOR AN EYE.

Now, you are absolutely right that if the preachers stayed out of those kinds of situations they would not encounter trouble. If Jesus had stayed at home all his days He never would have been crucified. The preachers go where they are needed most...the whole have no need of a physician. Sometimes they encounter violence and threats directed at them. That is a risk they are willing to take for the gospel's sake, and the sake of those they call to repentance. You are wrong. Police cannot break the laws themselves. Many polices have already been punished doing unlawfull actions against citicens. This clearly seems to be one of them - these christians did not break any laws as the info clearly states. Its not illegal to preach on public area.
