  • I'm from Royston, Glasgow. We understand each other perfectly but usually it's a lot of shite :P

  • not broad. sounds like a punter fae edinburgh

  • I'm born and bred in glasgow and just outside it, so i don't even think this is a strong accent at all, and for some reason parody's of scottish accents are harder to understand than the real thing,

  • Best line was at the end. After naming all these obvious signs of being in Scotland, he goes 'apart from that, you canny really tell'.

  • That is not a thick scottish accent, believe me :)

  • @emma41093... Lol. At the time I could honestly only make out about 50% of what he was saying... After spending a week or so in the Edinburgh area I really started understanding the accent in general. I hear that the Glasgow accent is really thick though.

  • @madsen1971 Ha, well I live in North Berwick which is quite close to Edinburgh, but my mum is from Surrey and she, after living up here for over 30 years, still finds it difficult to understand some Scots (like at MacDonalds lol). Yes, Glasgow is bad but I think the worst is Aberdeen and Dundee because they still use a lot of Scots vocabulary.

Anyway, just imaging sitting a french exam when the narrative voice is a Glaswegian who is trying to speak french - stupid SQA!!! :D

  • @madsen1971

Depends. I'm from Paisley, Glasgow and I don't have a thick accent. In fact I know a lot of people who do not. People from the same area as I.

Depends on the area you're from, education, background in general.

  • ah my fellow canadians :)

  • The scottish accent is differant from town to town and city to city. 15 miles from my home the accent is milder than mine. That's why call centers are no use to scottish folk as it can be a long call. And when we are drunk it's a thousand times harder to understand us.

  • SCOTTISH accent is very cool

  • CrossCountry?

  • buckie; sad but true.

  • Im Scottish and my accent is not like his

  • @forresbear1873 he's probably from Fife cause thats what my accent sounds like. :)

  • Ahhh the lovely East Coast train.

  • I'm going to Scotland in May and I'm nervous I won't understand anyone!

  • @JoyousinJesus yes you will lol im from scotland there lots of different type of accents. where abouts are you going in scotland? glasgow?

  • well send is a xmas caird right ta dundee ya bass!

  • @xArwenx thats 68 people who say that so far

  • it would have been funnier if they had a someone with a strong glaswegian accent

  • o,O

  • Oh, I LOVE the Scottish accent! I would have handed him a copy of War and Peace to read aloud just so I could listen.

  • What is the point of this video? Is it to make fun of the Scottish accent or the american one?

  • This video is not here to make fun of English or Scottish accents.

  • lol i did not understand a word of that. Im going to school in scottland next year... im screwed

  • im from Scotland but i moved >_>

anyway, people in my new school just smiled and nodded at me for a while until they got passed the accent. but seriously, it is not that bad. it will take some time but you'll live.

  • Yeah... she is pretty cute isn't she...

  • the guy even made me laugh there, hope you enjoyed your trip here and seen many a hairy coo hahaha

  • Great Trip... 3 days in Scotland and not one hairy coo spotting though. Can't wait to go back to look again

  • just found out about my starring role on the tube. to set a few things straight i knew you were filming but didn't realise to go on here . secondly i'm born and bred edinburgh to dispel any theories of buckfast, dundee or shell suits none of these apply ty

  • Wow... very cool. Have to be honest, I didn't think you'd ever see or even hear about this little vid... and besides, I didn't know how to get ahold of you to ask. I posted it originally to share a part of my vacation with friends and family. However, turns out that thousands of people wanted to check out the clip, and as you can see most really liked the funny conversation and your Scottish accent. Never meant to offend. Train ride was a blast by the way, Thanks, Matt.

  • @madsen1971 glad you had a nice time in scotland...we are a friendly race

  • Mr.Lagersman, you're one sexy scotsman

  • Comment removed

  • @MrLagersman Good on you! I'd be pretty pissed if someone id this to me and probably has. We Scots do get slightly mocked and fannied about with the mimicking of accents and being made to speak for kicks! Darn them. Thank you for making the story of the Haggis and Hairy Coo's!

  • i dont understand why you folk are gettin so wound up over this. If you read the box madsen says a 'cool scottish accent' im from scotland and im taking this as a compliment. and incase none you lot noticed the conductor was laughing himself!

  • Thanks man. Great country, really friendly people. Would go back anytime

  • What Yanks? Who are you talking about?

  • Comment removed

  • Umm... all three are from Canada, completely different country. Assuming they're "Yanks" is kinda the same as someone saying that people from Hungary, Serbia, and Croatia are all basically the same... Sorta ignorant don't you think?

  • Well just so you know, Hungary doesn't have anything in common with Serbia and Croatia...Totally different origin! But Serbia and Croatia use to be in one country..The same language, same origin...

  • Cool... did not know that. To be honest, only chose those three bordering countries to illustrate a point to Firko who's from Hungary... thanx

  • Haha, notice how that Firko guy removes his comments after you answer him back and make him look like an idiot. Im from Scotland, don't know where in Scotland he is from, but it's not a City accent.

  • Yeah, Firko made some pretty lame assumptions about my friends in the video... But I should say that before he deleted his inaccurate commentary he sent a thoughtful apology for his words to my inbox.

  • I take it you know theres no such thing as haggis? ie. its not an animal its part of a sheeps stomach? and that "empty bottles of buckfast" is basically empty bottles of alcohol - buckfast is what all the neds drink (ned = the teenagers that hang about street corners and drink that horrible wine)

  • yeah ok ned isnt all teens that bevy on street corners just like saying people that wear black shoes or wear black jeans are goth. i have bevyed in town but i aint a ned!

  • it is mostly though, and its nothing like saying all people who wear black jeans are goths. grow up.

  • mate you just said that people who drink on the street are neds and people who drink bucky are neds. NO WE AINT!!!

  • wtf u slebberin aboot ya jakey. If you hang about the streets, drinkin buckie, yer a ned! in yer lacoste trackie hinkin yer hardcore lmao

  • says the guy that tried to talk all hardcore scottish!

i dont wear lacoste because yeah that is neddy.

Neds wear shit like that. thats how to tell if someone is a ned not just because they drink! i can afford to have good clothing thank you very much

  • actually lacoste trackies are about £160 each - plus a pair of Y3 trainers will set you back another £160 quid.

I would know - cause I used to wear the trackies before I grew up and the trainers are still stylish - so aye, just because ye wer wit neds hink is cool - doesny make ye a ned either.

  • omg you are such a gimp!

Your total cheesing that you like reached 65 mp/h in your shitty car in like a rundown bit of Glasgow giiiiimp

  • LMAO - thats no even ma motor - the key word "Chardo's Banter Run" - ma mate rickys car - no "Kraig's banter run" - and that was 2 years ago tae - get over yerself - look at ur profile lmao, "naked girls" how to fuckin pick up a girl or summit - lmao get off the internet.

  • hahaahaa

good one i know exactly wht you mean :L

  • btw in your side bit you spell it "hairy coo's" not "cues" because that sounds like a snooker cue.

    -from scotland

  • Thanks for the correction... updated now.

  • Thats a stirling accent for sure lol

  • he sounds like he's from aberdeen :)

  • cool accent!!! I love the socttish accent...
