  • I've asked this before, but I'm wondering who Gilbert's tailor is.

  • In real time, Gilbert wrote the music, and Sullivan wrote the words, right?

  • Gilbert and Sullivan usually wrote humorous operettas, right?

  • Is it just me, or was there a building being imploded during the song's ending flourish in 4:46?

  • @powerpuffsouthpark I don't think so; using explosives for building demolition is illegal in New York state, let alone in New York CITY (where Sesame Street was recorded). What you probably mean is an exaggerated description of the main bookshelf (books stored with them and all) collapsing right on cue as the music flourished in ending in that same time stamp you mention (which in turn was edited out - visually, at least - in post-production).

  • @PNRailRider Now that I've mentioned it, this skit would have been more humorous if they kept the shelf-collapse-on-cue take unedited. (LOL)

  • ......now i wanna go to a library

  • God I love this one. Northern Calloway was by far my favorite human on SS. Tragic how he died.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I loved this song forever and when my tape finally died, I wanted to hear this again.

  • I have this on a Sesame Street VHS! One of my fav sketches

  • You can also find books at Barnes & Noble, Chapters/Indigo, and online at Amazon.com, Itunes, and Kobo e-reader.

  • @simonizer888

This site is loaded with member with great senses of humor!

  • LOL "WHAT?!" at 2:24.

  • I really wish we had access to more of Gilbert and Sullivan. According to Muppet Wiki, they had four other songs besides this one. Let's bring 'em on, what do you say?

  • WHAT MOVIE IS THIS

  • @Topaz7597 A Sesame Street VHS about reading, adding & subtracting, and going to school. It was in the reading segment.

  • been looking for this a long time now.tnx alot.

  • Had a Pirates of Penzance twist to it.

  • I remember the very last Gilbert & Sullivan segment from 1989(?) where they sang about Before & After. The ending of that clip was really hilarous when they quickly rewound the footage combined with the musical build-up towards the end of the song. It's been past the Jim Henson era since I've seen that rare clip, but it was the last time we would ever see Gilbert & Sullivan perform on Sesame Street.. It may not be "The Letter B" or this song, but it was one of their better songs..
  • Bob looks like the Sailor from the Villiage People.

  • LOL oh no not you 2 guys again!

  • My little baby bro(2) years old knows the lyrics(part) hes so gunny at the end he ecstends his arms for a finally--- have you knoticed that the sports guy is gay look at him at the ending where they say ull find good books for everyone at ur library....

  • Gilbert and Sullivan are cool. Does anyone have the one where they sing about the letter B by any chance?

  • I love the part where Maria just suddenly appears there in the sexy genie outfit!

  • Me Too.

  • I love these two charactors. When I was in high school I was in Gilbert and Sullivans Pirates Of Penzance. Is this the only sketch Gilbert and Sullivan were in?

  • No.

  • @wattamack4 Well, that isn't a very helpful answer. What other sketches have they been in?

  • They did four other songs: "The Letter B", "Before and After", "Important", and "What to Eat".

  • @zacandtaylorrule from memory they are in about 3 or 4. I know they sing a song about the letter b and the other one I remember is where they sung a song about listening. i hope that helps :)

  • @zacandtaylorrule If I remember correctly, there were also ones called "Before And After," Important, and What to Eat.

  • Wow.. I'm all Dewey-eyed.

  • How about a trashy novel, Oscar?

  • I'm very mad about the Linda character on Sesame Street. She is deaf. How can she hear people talking loud to say quiet in the library or a patron that dosen't know any sign language for help on getting the right book? When will Linda be hearing for the first time?

  • It's Just a character.

  • Never worry about reposting. This one's now the only copy on YouTube as the other one's gone, so thank you very much!

  • I forgot how funny Gilbert & Sullivan were! Let's see more of 'em!

  • Wow, a libary with a grubby, miserable malcontent and a bunch of crazy people making a lot of noise - this is just like the West Los Angeles branch! =)

  • And that's just the staff.
