  • DJIGYAR ZAKROY ROT,VAY,TYASH

  • The Shalakho is the very heart and soul of Armenian dance. However, we shouldn't be surprised if Georgians have something similar, as the two cultures didn't evolve in isolation, and indeed Tiflis was the center of Armenian community and culture when Armenia wasn't on the map, and has around 1M Armenians still living there.

BTW there are errors in the Armenian text description of this clip - ie using "ա" where it should be "է".

  • I like your analysis; it has more credibility than the comments of some other people who just biasly claim things. Cultures historically and naturally intertwine, borrow, emulate, blend, or even admire, and the result is that there are commonalities among them. There is nothing wrong with this.

In regards to the spelling, the informal tone matches the description of this dance more than the formal because it is so invigorating and uplifting.

  • Well, I've never seen it written that way before although that's how it's colloquially spoken by Eastern Armenians (not Western), as well as myself. However it sits somewhat uncomfortably with the more formal tone of "...ներկայացվում է Վանուշ Խանամիրյանի պարի դպրոցի կողմից..."

Still, if the dancing is good, who cares! :o)

  • What do u mean saying when Armenia wasn't on the map? lol Both Armenia ( Eastern Armenia) and Georgia were part of Russian Empire by the time uu talking abt and Armenia is the only modern country from Babylon map...

  • Let's say that at the time it wasn't an autonomous state, but existed more or less as a region within Russia, until 1918. Of course Western Armenia was a different and very sad story.

  • As u know in Italy, in Rome near Colloseum there is a big stoe Roman map of 1 century on the wall where Armenia is shown form Medditerranian to Caspian sea via Black one.And in Matenadaran there is 2 century map presented to LTP by Germany Govt where it shows Armenia,Iberia,Albania...as u see by the time we already were called by our modern name unlike others.

  • And Matenadaran map shows Armenia will all our parts which later on were taken from us...and if u see that ancient document u wil lsee how big Armenia is and how small our neighbouring countries were by the time...The point is Armenia existed on firts ever map --Babylon map with its name Armenia while others emerges much later on maps still carryi g their previous names which as we know in case of Azeris doesn't have anyting to do wth Caucasian Albania...

  • @BeautySavesWorld I agree with you about the 1st century map in Rome. In those days Armenia was a very large kingdom or maybe a small empire, depending on which way you look at it. The time I was referring to is far more recent than that, and well known in Armenian history.

  • And yes, later on both Armenia and georgia were occupied by Russian Empire and had the same status and were represented on the map the same way

  • Time you the statement that shalaxo is created in tbilisi it leaves that Georgian instead of Armenian.

Or want to say that tbilisi it is your city? :D

  • You need to remember that in times past, when Armenia was under the feet of invaders and therefore effectively not in existence, that Tbilisi (Tiflis) became populated by the Armenians in exile and thus became the center of Armenian religion, learning, art and culture. Therefore many books, poems, songs and dances were created among the Armenians while in exile in Tbilisi. Of course, there are also some similarities in many of the art forms of these two caucasian Christian countries.

  • well actually u need to read some history. Tbilisi became a capital of Georgia in 5 century and it means in Georgian "warm waters". yes it's true that there are and were many armenians in Tbilisi, but not only Armenians, but Persians, Kurds, Greeks, Assirians, Russians and Azeries, because it was center of caucasus, not because Tbilisi was founded by Armenians. and word Tiflis is turkish name for tbilisi.

  • What you say makes no difference to the point I made, since I never suggested in any way that Tblisi was founded by Armenians. What you say is true and also well-known. The importance for Armenians is that during the time period in question, the state of Armenia was effectively non-existent, and therefore Tblisi temporarily became an Armenian cultural capital. This still doesn't give Georgians ownership of Armenian art created there. However, there must have been a lot of cultural cross-over.

  • zaphodphil, i like your disposition, impartial, unbiased, and not offensive or aggressive, unlike some other commenters on this video :)

  • @vdomega I agree, @zaphodphil actually knows what they are talking about.

  • Comment removed

  • @ninakias You sound very ignorant yourself. Of course everyone knows that Tblisi is Georgian (and always will be) and who founded it. There is no question about that. However the Armenians also adopted it as their cultural capitol for a time in history, and that is why many still live there, although many later returned to Armenia. There is a lot of shared culture between Armenia and Georgia - just get used to the fact.

  • @zaphodphil i am just laughing at those who say that everything is armenian and yes many armenians because of the wars with turks they went and lived and educated in tbilisi !!! tbilisian armenians are very smart and better then the other armenians i have many cousins from there !!!

  • lol, you didn't understand. he never said that tiblisi was built by armenians, he said that, because our country was under foreign occpuation for 1000 years, many armenian intellectuals grew up in tiblisi, which became a centre for culture and awakening for the armenian nation. many of our most important intellectuals such as raffi (hagop hagopian), hovaness tumanian and so on were born there. most of our old political parties were also formed there. thus tiblisi has a warm place our hearts

  • i thought shalaxo was from adjaria

  • I like what gamerking818 said at the beginning of his comment, that "this is a good dance no matter who is its originator." People, accept that, and let this be the LAST of the racially antagonizing comments. We can be good neighbors and brothers, seeing how we have so many things in common. Don't divide, unite!

  • okk dis is a good dance no matter who is its origionator first of all!!!2nd of all is armenias do not dance like turks 4 whoever said dat!!!ok turky was nuthin okk if it wasnt for armenia turky would still be nothing!!

  • vk is seriusly da best... chuzoghneri ....

I look forward to the time promised in the Bible when not only armenians or assyrians or just a few people will be able to live peacefully, but rather all of mankind under one heavenly kingdom, Psalms 37:11 "BUT THE MEEK ONES THEMSELVES WILL POSSESS THE EARTH, AND THEY WILL INDEED FIND THEIR EXQUISITE DELIGHT IN THE ABUNDANCE OF PEACE."

  • vdomega vry nice of you brother. it is never good to look superior over other races. assyrians were on top of evrerybody but look at us today, no country for over 2000 years just like the jews but with god's promise we shall have assyria back given to us by God .

I hope these heritage will be kept alive and kicking in many years to come. Ketse Hayer

  • hooooooooooooooooop we are the best. I ger sgivery when I watch this. proud to be ARMENIAN.

  • Great dance I love it!

  • shalaxo is not armenian dance this is old georgian dance

  • @doditos84 it isn,t Georgian dance!!!!!!

  • With us you are the oldest christans of the world i think. And you also have the ancient history

  • It says at least the land of Assyria will rise again..

  • not to diminish the power of Assyria, but Daniel 2:44 says, "And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite" that's talking about God's heavenly kingdom with Jesus as ruler, so one day we can look forward to a peaceful world under one government

  • The Armenians are good people :P Iam assyrian with armenian blood in me. As many of my peolpe.

I hope one day we will see the armenians and assyrian back from the turks, the assyrian Empire will strike back as it says in the bible. with you armenians

    :)

  • the bible really says that?

  • may God give long and happy live to Georgians and Armenians to respect and love each other, and to be extremally proud to have created together such a treasure like Shalako!!!!!!!1

  • oh god, what the hell is this, those who have no idea about the history live thir comments here

  • this is not an armenian dance, this is KAVKAZ DANCE!!!

  • this IS Armenian... this is an authentic Armenian cultural dance and you can also tell from the writing in the background that it is an ARMENIAN dance group (barakhoomp). kavkaz dance can be similar but i doubt it's theirs. Armenians have been around for a loooooooooooooooooong time.

  • This is armenian dance. We, georgians also dance it but it comes from Tbilisi Armenians. Actually it is some kinda of urban dance:) Was danced by people whp lived in Tbilisi

  • this is a real old national armenian dance

  • from what i see in this video, this is completely armenian version of the dance, with only some similar moves as georgian. there's no woman dancing in georgian version. woman dance only in the first part of the dance and it's called karachokheli. and argument about who was first and who's better, it's just stupid. try to be little bit tolerant to others and world will be little bit better place to leave.

  • Vai tzavatenem!

  • nice musiz and dance, it also seems like Turkish Black Sea region, and Eastern Anatolian folkloric dances. Good job!

  • this dance is pure armenian. goooooood just stop this

  • jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan VANOUSH KHANAMIIAN'S DANCE SCHOOL

  • very true, and im very nationalistic, and there is a very nice quote of some US president: "there is never an eternal friendship between countries, there is an eternal interest" - "mejdu gosudarstvamo ne bivaet vechnoi drujbi, bivaut vechnie interesi." in a war every side commits something bad, so did georgians, so did, abkhazs, chechens, russians, armenian, kabardins and others. however i repeat i am Georgian and am for Georgia's well-being and interests.

  • Dear jokhta! Armenians and Georgians should not fight I agree 100%. We are christian brothers and our blood is so mixed throughout the centuries that we are blood brothers too. Our cultture is so mixed too that we often claim it's originality but we sould not offend each other and should not listen to extreme nationalists from both sides

  • if only more people could be as tolerant and accepting!

  • Vdomage..well said...sometimes when I watch Greek, Georgian, etc videos I feel smt vague " hogeharazat"..." close to my soul" ...it only makes me feel good..

  • Interestingly enough, it appered that Greeks have similar to our Kochari dance, and many of them posted abt that on our Kochari video, and all the comments were nice and kind, we all together just celebrated the fact we share similar dance, it is just amazing..we r Orthodox Christian neighbours, why can't we do the same here?

  • Johkhta,

My comment was not directed at u but the other georgian who put insulting comments before...

  • no but seriously check the Georgian shalakho-kintauri, so much better, check erisioni

  • yeah, i checked it, and it wasn't bad, but not better than this armenian rendition of shalakho

  • i bet u r armenian :)) like me very patriotic about your country.. but sorry .. Georgian is still better... its called "old tbilisi" on youtube, check it out

  • i am armenian, but i am not of those patriotics who thinks his race or culture is superior to others, i am open to all cultures, and my conclusion was purely objective

  • me to im open to all cultures. and as you say your conclusion is purely objective, thats is your opinion, but i think "old tbilisi" on youtube, is better performance than this one. But if you like this one over the other, no problem, but i still think other one is better

  • there is a good word in armenian to describe the feeling one gets when he watches a dance, it's "hokeharazat", literally it means "close to the soul" but I guess you can translate it "it speaks to you"; although i enjoyed the video you suggested, it was not as "hokeharazat" as this shalakho performance, but that is just my opinion

  • Georgian shalakho is much better, whats very armenian in this dance, is the color of the costume, hahhaa

  • okay, here's the deal, from now on if the comment doesn't have anything to do with the dance shown above and/or is too negative, I will delete it. Thank you.

  • ne nado tripatcya,eto towe-AZERBACANSKIY tanets...

  • best version I have seen

  • just because im from g-dale doesn't mean i don't know how to spell

  • umm yeah i know how to spell I just wrote this for short calm down dammm

  • woooww i luv dis group0 da best of da best hahah rofl

  • and we luv your f'ing spelling, seems U iz imbecile armo teen somewhere from Glendale.

  • Please no fighting between Georgians and Armenians. You are both Christian brothers. You both have ancient cultures and have had ancient kingdoms in history. Both of you have your very own alphabet and very own script (not all people do), both have a long history of Christianity. Georgia is Armenia's only Christian neighbor. Be Christian brothers to one another, please.

  • Armenians started that war! why do you think in Georgia are so many non Georgians? we are tolerant, unfortunatly.Ask Armenian what % of non Armenians live in Armenia, simple statistics will open your eyes.

  • ey Gruziyn, you are started to talk shit!

Who massacred Armenians in Baku and Sumgait!?

  • I send my love to all the friends I made in Tbilisi...Zurab, Otari, Irakli, Teimuraz, Georgi, and to Tamara and Nino who are great cooks, and to everyone else...

  • azerbaijanian music and dance.go home armenia

  • I know you are stupid, but may be you'll understand this; the real reason you hate us Georgians because we are more succesfull then you, more talented then you, have more beautiful country then you, and finaly, as a conclusion from your own logic, we are tougher then you, and you are only proud of your past, Great Armenia that existed around 100years only. so you shut the fuck

  • that would be the last thing to think of. More beautiful? I was in Tbilisi in 2004, it was a nightmare, everything ruined and destroyed, no electricity in winter. I thought Tbilisi was one of the most beautiful cities of former USSR. But I found Yerevan much more attractive and comfortable, modern and well taken care of than Tbilisi where Rustaveli av was full of young beggars, where not a single street except the one to airpot had asphalt.

  • Yeah, go and see now and you will die of the fucking gelosy.

  • to see what? DId economic miracle happen in Georgia. Since i left Tbilisi in 2005 only the airport was built and its roof blew away couple of days later and Iveria was demolished. If 15 years of your independence ushli kotu pod xvost, if you did not manage to repair a single highway or a local route connecting Georgia with Armenia, you will not do anything later.

  • To your disapointment economic miracle happened to Georgia, and I saw turist Armenians who were looking around and saying, vai, vai, vai balik djan, vai Astvatz djan, Tcavatannem. Tcavatannem my ass

  • I love both Sakartvelo and Hayastan. I cannot tell you how much it saddens my heart when there is disagreement between them. I want to ask my Armenian friends to please make an effort to work out your differences with Georgians over Javakheti, and come up with a solution that would still respect Georgia's territorial integrity in Javakheti. But always remember you are brothers in Christ. Let there be peace between you.
