Okay. First of all, I am a huge Breaking Benjamin fan. And while I love the original Diary of Jane, the acoustic version is my favorite song by them of all time. So that already gave this vid an A+ in my eyes. But then you go and add Eomer (my favorite LOTR character) and Arwen (she kicks butt)! This is A+++++++. WOW! Bloody hell... I'm speechless. This is amazing, I mean I LOVED the other video but I ADORE sad endings (I'm twisted I know lol) and this is... Just wow. I mean the story is so well thought out! I wish I had your skills so I could make a Eomer vid about my FF but I don't lol! but yeah... wow. I seriously hope you win in this contest!
And finally, while I really liked Gandalf in the AU I wished at the end of the description it didnt talk about how he goes back to his search for the ringI dont think you need it after he had been so caught up in the story. And also, while I liked Gandalfs presence throughout, I could not hear his audio at the beginning and I wish that the music hadnt ended before we saw him again for the last time :(
You're right about the last line in the description; I've cut it out. I didn't even really think about that. Thank you for helping me notice. :) The audio was hard to hear, but I referenced what he said in the description; I've now made it more clear near the bottom. :) Sorry about the music ending; not much I could do about that. :( But did you also notice that Eomer got a cameo appearance in the credits? Haha. If you watched that far, you are my hero. Lol. :D
As far as clip choice you did wonderfully here, as well. I especially love the use of the clip where the river wipes out the Nazguls, Arwens single tear at 1:03 (SUCH POWERFUL ACTING) and Eomers scream at 2:51. I dont even know if that was edited or not! Hahaha. But while were on the subject of these clips, some critical feedbackmore like me nitpicking
You know I included those single tear scenes just for you. :P (actually, that's partially true haha)
I love Eomer's scream at 2:51; I can't believe that cut that scene out of the theatrical cut. It's so freaking emotionally powerful!! But at least it's in the extended edition, which, honestly, is the only way to watch the LOTR trilogy. :D
Other editing miscellany I enjoyed were the text on the paper at 2:47, highlighting pain intentionally or not was epic and the first time I watched your video I could not have told that Eomer with Arwen standing over her fiancées dying body on the battlefield was not an actual scene, and the yellow coloring you gave to their faces at the beginning to make it look like they were on the page Gandalf was reading
Yeah I highlighted pain pretty much both times that I used that clip (recycling!! haha) because, well, there's a lot of internal pain in the story I've set up. Omgsh I am so thrilled with how that manipulation on the riverbank/battlefield turned out! Seriously that took me, like, 15 minutes to do. Haha. I have no life. The yellow coloring I simply saturated it further because those are real drawings from the credits of ROTK; that was my inspiration for the song choice.
One of my favorite effects you do is where you fade out on one face and fade in on a new one in the same area and 2:24 and 2:45 are my favorite examples of that. Those were like hands-down the biggest YES moments I had—his addition to the plot was excellent :D, and for the record, 0:42 was good too, but nothing like the effect of seeing Arwens corpse in the water and then seeing him completely enraptured by the story.
There were definitely moments where I was like WOW at youre editingwhen Im really excited about a work I do or something like this Ill laugh or Ill say YES and there were a couple of places where I did that here andThey were mostly with Gandalf. He was never an interrupter to the story in my opinion, in fact his appearance heightened it for me.
I'm so glad that you didn't think that Gandalf interrupted the story; I was really afraid viewers would find him distracting. But I liked him as part of the story too much to cut him out. I mean, he's the whole reason that we've found this story. Duh. :P
While Im talking about synching I also wanted to recognize the way you made your clips change with the beat of the song—so exact that I didnt even really notice it until around that five second stretch of piano/vocal/cello quarter note chords on the beat beginning at 0:54. I appreciated that.
Your synching is always incredible. I really liked how well you synched the mouthing of the words to the music, what I believe is intentional at 1:19 and what may not have been at 1:43 (thats Arwens father calling her back—its a cool effect, but maybe not intentional—still works, though, haha)

And while I could definitely and immediately see the lyrics of The Diary of Jane fitting the situation you set up for Eomer (for reasons Im sure you already understand and therefore I dont need to go into), you set it up very subtly for Arwen too in ways that I really liked. For instance the lyric As I burn another page mixed with the flower she holds at her former lovers grave. Very nice. Very subtly indicative of her feelings to rush through the bereavement process.
WowI wish I could recognize like all the little work and effort you put into this and really understand like the minutia, but bleh, Im so ignorantbut REGARDLESS I still have a lot to be saidit was so great, Madeleine, I watched it 7 times in an attempt to really tell you everything I could about it. I love your music choices; the lyrics and tone are always so appropriate

Omg, one of my fave moments in this vid is 2:20-2:45!!! That part was, like, my favorite to edit and I love watching it back again. Haha.
Arwen's corpse...yeah, that too a while for me to figure out what angles I could have that scene at where it would look relatively realistic. :P
