  • Never heard of Dog Soldiers?

  • 28 days later is not a zombie movie at all and its just copied from THE OMGA MAN for Charlton Heston

  • They sell REC in America. Where do you even get it lol.

  • Everyone please go to my channel and post your favorite scary movies, I'm going to make a new video, I'll also put your user name in the video! (:

  • damn really great taste man, i just updated my list of horror movies :)

  • What do think of these Films, from the Decade? - Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon - American Psycho - Hollow Man (Director´s Cut) - Hatchet - The Host - Mirrors - The Mist - Room 1408 - Jeepers Creepers - Trick r`Treat - The Exorcism of Emily Rose
  • Great choices! I would definitely add the french film, "INSIDE" to the list. Sooooooooo creepy and uber-gory. Really freaked me out!

  • A Clockwork Orange in the back!

  • don't know wether it would be considered horror but Irreversible is certainly the most horrific film I've seen in the last 10 years, by a long shot!

  • what is that right behind your head? it looks like a framed CD or DVD. WOW! I've not heard of half of these, so many new movies I need to see! I love Shaun of the Dead! I think Edgar Wright is one of my fav. directors. loved Hot Fuzz too! not really looking forward to Paul tho. Zodiac is 2 and half hours! What thats crazy! David Fincher did Seven right, am I thinking of the right guy? ...wait, no he did Fight Club. wait no I can't remember, maybe he did both.

  • thats weird session 9 and 28 days later are my favourite horrors

  • What is that picture of on the far left side of the frame?

  • That's Leatherface from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's signed by Gunnar Hansen :D.

  • you lucky bastard! that is so awesome! did you meet him? I love your vids, but I also love seeing all of the posters and pictures on your walls. :D

  • lol, he's always been my favourite movie villain. Sadly, no - never met him. I got the picture online. I'd love to come to the states one day and attend a horror convention and meet some of these people. That would be great. :)

  • Hills have eyes remake was good.

How about top 5 horror movie remakes??? If anyone can, you can James.

  • your list was the best ive seen so far, ive been looking for good examples of horror movies and most lists are filled by slasher films, which i dont care for.

  • Wow, thanks so much mate. Really appreciate it.

  • yay cloverfield. i do like australias welcome to the jungle better :)

  • I don't think Welcome to the Jungle was Australian. I think they just set it here. I really liked the film too. It surprised me. I didn't think it would be very good, but it turned out really entertaining.

  • it made me beleive it was australian lol.

  • Exactly - I think the film is pure horror. It really makes feel uncomfortable and unnerved.

  • What pissed every1 off about Cloverfield i rekon was the Camera being shakey from their view and everything but i think it took a new perspective on it.

  • Yeah, I think that was part of it too. Can be a bit annoying, but it didn't bother me too much.

  • I'm probably one of the few that actually enjoyed High Tension (Haute Tension). Everybody I talked to thought it was stupid because of the ending. Too each his own I suppose.

  • I agree man. I loved it. The ending bothered me not a bit, and added to the experience for me.

  • The ending of High Tension is implausible. If she was the killer the whole time how was it possible for her to be talking to her friend in the back of the truck...while she was also driving the truck. And that car chase scene...was she driving both cars at the same time if she was the killer lol?? I liked the film and the twist ending, but when I rewatched it I was like, wait a minute. Thats not possible.

  • It uses that whole 'unreliable witness' scenario - whereby what you see is a skewed view of what actually happened. I think its kind of clever because what you see may not have literally happened, but rather it's how the ordeal has been twisted in her head.

  • I'm a new viewer to you, what country are you from? I notice your DVDs aren't R1.

    AND YOUR CASES ARE BADASS!

  • Hey mate. I'm from Australia. A lot of releases I can get over here, the more 'obscure' films I usually have to import. Sucks. I'd say at least half of my collection would be R1/R2 DVDs. Thanks for the comment man! :D

  • thought of one I liked from '99 or 00, have you ever seen the Japanese zombie film Junk? I think it would make my list for the last decade

  • No I haven't mate. I've read a lot about it though. Someone else was saying how good it was too. It wouldn't have a release here right?

  • hey mate have you seen the 1999 Japanese film Audition I heard it's really disturbing.

  • Also, have you seen The Cottage? I thought it was pretty damn good.

  • I saw that a while ago. Your right, it's very good. Very funny and original. The guy having a phobia of moths was just genius.

  • Yeah The Decent was really good, I did prefer Creep though i really enjoyed that. I was curious on your thoughts on Fulci's New York ripper? QUACK QUACK ;). Its just im not sure i've heard you mention it yet and im a big Fulci fan.

  • Quack Quack.

I enjoyed the New York Ripper. A great slice of Fulci scuz. Very vicious too, the violence was very brutal. You can tell Fulci knew he was going to piss people off with it. Feminist had a field day with it :D. Thanks for the comment mate.

  • What did you think about 28 Weeks Later? I actually thought that it was the better film, but both were badass.

Session 9 is really good and at least in my top 20 of the decade.

  • Yeah I really enjoyed it too. To me, they're like the Alien films - Alien/28 Days Later is more atmosphere and suspense, whereas Aliens/28 Weeks Later is action and thrills. Both have their fans. It's hard for me to say, so I'll cop out and say I liked them the same :P

  • Hey, I don't know if you're interested but I shot a film back in Dec and it's posted up on YouTube. It's going to be taken off at some point today. Look up Woodland Graves and you should find it. It runs just over ten minutes. I was the writer on the project and if you're interested, take a look.

  • Cheers mate I will. Sorry I didn't notice this earlier - hop its still there. Why is being taken down, out of interest?

  • Yeh, the Director's taken it down now. Only because it's not the final edit so it will probably be back up again soon. It was mainly put up to entise(spelling?) people into coming to our screening that we're setting up this friday. I'll let you know when it's back up.

  • P.S. British humour FTW! =P

  • British humour FTW! I grew up on it - there's no alternative :D

  • Another great vid, keep it up my man! What about The Strangers though? brilliant film, very atmospheric. If your into British wit try Dog Soldiers, its a werewolf film but some real comedic moments a really nicely made, underrated movie. One more thing, I checked out Cemetery man on your reccomendation, thanks alot! really well made film, enjoyed it immensly

  • The STranges was really eerie. I liked how it kept it simple, and didn't try to be overly complicated. It portrays a very real and terrifying experience. Very effetive. Plus, that guy with the sack looked awesome :)

Dog Soldier's was also a great film. I used to own it but my DVD stopped working. Good balance as you said, of comedy and horror. Have you seen Neil Marshall's The Descent? he's an up and coming director I think. Glad you enjoyed Cemetery Man mate. I love that film *gushes*

  • I really need to see The Host!

28 Days Later is a brilliant film. I love all those epic shots of London at the very start, and also the scene at the end with the horses. Just something so incredible about those scenes. It's one of my favourite horrors for sure. I don't really like 28 Weeks Later though =(

Cloverfield is great. I love the scene where they are running from the hotel to the helicopter. Tis awesome!

I need to check Zodiac out. I've heard good things about it.

    Great video =)

  • The Host is really fun. It's kind of like a comic book version of Cloverfield. Honestly, I don't know which I prefer out of the two. The creature(s) look damn cool too. :)

Yeah, those scenes of deserted London are chilling. Very eerie and I love that CGI wasn't used to create it. I liked 28 Weeks Later personally, I think its a good companion piece.

Yeah Cloverfield had a lot of great scenes in it. That one you pointed out was excellent

Zodiac, everyone should see. Its so damn good :)

  • Hi, yes Shaun of the dead is deffo British. What indept, did you mean by that? Simon Pegg is a legend here ever since he did spaced out.

Gotta keep this short, got a massive "headache" laters

  • Hey there :)

I just wanted to make a point that the style of humour is distinctly British in style. Yeah, Simon Pegg is awesome. Glad he's hit the big time, he deserves it. I hope your headache clears up quick.

  • Thanks :) It's gone now it was a 12 hour thing, you know ;)

  • Great list, I'm going to do a response tomorrow too I think. I loved High Tension, not so much the ending, but the... uh, tension (lol) was just so incredible. Session 9 is a GREAT one, glad to see it mentioned... along with Audition, for the last few scenes. Shaun of the Dead is a classic imo, and Zodiac is brilliant.

  • Thanks for the comment :). Yeah, High Tension certainly had tension by the bucket loads. That was one of the most impressive things about the film - the constant tension. I loved Session 9 - needs more fans. I feel it stands up as a great, individual film.

  • i liked High Tension... it was very... hmm.. "different"

  • I liked everything about it. You could tell Aja would be a big force in Horror films.

  • Good picks though, mate. Audition is easily in my top 5 horror films from the 90s. I love how it builds up the that climax. I think it should be against the law for anyone to ruin that climax for anyone else because if you don't know what's coming, it hits you like a ton of bricks. And the scene with the sack is one of the best jump scares ever. I flew a few feet in the air when I first saw that. :P

  • Yeah, Ausion just scraped in. Any later and it would have been out of the decade. I know what you mean about spoilers - I always try to not reveal and key plot developments. Yeah, that scene with the sack, so out of the blue and disturbing. And of coarse, the climax - which I won't mention :). Hugely nerve twisting.

  • I ordered Session 9 on Friday. It was only $10. Can't wait until it arrives.

I saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Beginning yesterday and I thought it was awesome!!

    Another Quality vid mate!

  • Cheers mate. If your anything like me, you'll love Session 9. Very much classically done. Rely's on atmosphere and mood a lot. TCM Beginning was a fun watch too. There were some really energetic scenes in the film.

  • I really liked Switchblade Romance, it had a griity type of feel to it which I liked plus it was quite viloent too.

Calvaire was scary but it did have some funny moments aswell. Also the ending of Calvaire was quite odd

  • Yeah I loved High Tension - great film. I liked everything about it. The mood, the visuals, the music - just a wonderful film all round. Calvaire really impressed me. So strange. Like you said, it has a lot of funny scenes in there - black, black humour. The ending was indeed odd.

  • Somewhat abrut ending to your video, there! Hey, again. Still haven't got round to re-watching cannibal holocaust, but I will I promise! Gotta say, I really disliked Zodiac- did not hold my interest at all. I just wanted to respond and ask if you'd seen THE MIST? IMO that film is DEF one of the best recent horrors. Again, disliked by many, especially with the ending, which, I LOVED- was the icing on the cake to a really fantastic film. Also, check out EDEN LAKE if you haven't seen. L8r.

  • lol, yeah realised I would be over time so had to cut it off :P. You didn't like the Zodiac then, are there any other reasons you disliked it (length, pace, acting)? Yeah I liked The Mist a lot. Another great King adaptation. Eden Lake I'm waiting to be released here. Still no sign of it grrrr.

  • awesome picks!!! 28 Days Later and High Tension would have to be my favorites! Too bad I don't own those Dvds yet. you should check out my video response to rhine1988s questions. Thanks, loved the video!

  • Cheers mate. Yeah I had a look at yours. Some cool picks there, Degeneration sounds interesting.

  • Great video. Shaun of the dead is a classic movie.

I still have to see cloverfield on dvd. I think the cinema experience is better then when you watch it on tv.

(REC) too? It was an entertaining movie, but on the hype how scary it was, was a bit of a let down. Not really scary as I hoped it would be.

  • I really enjoyed [REC]. It met my expectations. I really liked it, and those last ten minutes were so out of the blue. So creepy and strange.

  • I also enjoyed the movie, but the whole movie in total wasn't that scary as everyone says, the ending is indeed creepy, but still.

  • Yep calvaire is belgian ;) once again a reallyyy entertaining video :)

  • Yay, I got it right! :) Thanks for the kind words mate :D

  • session 9 is extremely underrated, one of the creepiest, most atmospheric, films i've ever seen! great update keep them coming!!!

  • That movie rocked. I wish it had been successful upon release, it really deserved it. There wasn't one thing lacking in that film.

  • Awesome video. You put your argument for each film forward so strongly.

  • Cheers mate - thanks for your kind words. Yeah I try to explain why I like the film so much. Sometimes it comes out right, other times I get muddled. Anyway. Thanks again ;)

  • I must watch Zodiac. If it's psychological Horror you like a lot then i recommend NIL BY MOUTH (1997), Directed by Gary Oldman. The Horrors that Kathy Burkes character is forced to endure are too real and uncompromising.

  • Yeah, Zodiac is a must. How strange. I've been told about that film constantly by one of my friends, he loves it. It was based on Oldman's life wasn't it?

  • Watch it. You'll feel the authenticity oozing from your TV screen, the movie will leave a mark, you'll feel like you've been punched by God (in a good way). Lol.

  • Cheers man. I'll see if I can lend his DVD if he has one. Sounds like its really powerful from what I've heard.

  • I forgot about High Tension. I'll have to check that one out. I love Shaun Of The Dead.....definitely a classic. Great video!

  • Thank you mate, much appreciated. Yeah Shaun of the Dead was an instant classic. It did everything right, so well :)

  • Nice picks man

    awsome video

  • Cheers mate. Thank you. It was very hard choosing, which I didn't think it would to begin with.

  • Nice picks man. I have yet to see Session 9 but I will check it out. Shaun of the Dead is awesome.

  • Cheers mate. Yeah Session 9 is one I'd really recommend. Can be had for pretty cheap nowadays ;)

  • Hmm, no INSIDE?

Love Session 9, I usually recommend it to friends but it never goes over well. Same with Murder Party.

Nice picks with 28 Days Later and High Tension.

  • Gah- Murder Party! Another one that slipped my mind. That film was exceptional. So off beat.

Yeah, no Inside. *blushes* I kinda, didn't like it... as much as... most people... seem to *hides* I know I'll cop flak for this :P. Everyone seems to love it.

You know, I think it was my anticipation that was part of the reason. I really built it up in my mind based on its rave reviews in the horror community. Don't get me wrong, I really like it - but I only like it. I'd recommend it though.

  • Yep. :)

Aw, its cool. I was surprised by it, had ZERO expectations, so maybe that's why it really got to me. Also, there's just been a real lack in really good horror and maybe I was easily pleased. Eh.

Don't feel bad, I would probably put Mother Of Tears on the list and ha, you know everyone thinks it sucks! I really enjoyed it and thought Argento was back full force but in a more modern way, especially with the Masters of Horror stuff.

  • Yay :). I think it is a good movie. Very tense and great atmosphere, cool killer too. I think its best when you have no expectations either way because your reaction is all based on your own personal experience.

Mother of Tears was good I think, not great to me though. I definitely think Dario was his mojo back as you say. I think he needs to hone it though. I think he's still got great films in him. I've got Masters of Horror, but haven't watch Dario's yet. Again, I heard its really good. :)

  • Yeah, I feel the same.

It's not the 70's or early 80's Argento we know and love but it's damn close! To me, at least thats how I felt.

Oh man, his Masters stuff is excellent. PELTS and Jenifer, some great Argento viewing there!!

  • Exactly. :D Pelts is in the second season right? I still need to pick them up.

  • Yeah man, season 2!

  • another great video from James :) excellent picks buddy! i hope you enjoyed my list of picks! SESSION9 is one that should be on my list! great video mate!

  • Yeah you had a great list buddy. Are you like me and only now thinking up even more films that could have been on the list? :P I know I am. Lots more keep coming into my head, but I guess you have to cut it off somewhere.

  • haha yeah. kinda sucks lol but like you said.. we have to cut it off somewhere i guess ;)

  • Got that right. I could keep going. That makes me very happy. Seems to me that 00's were a much better year for horror in general than the 90's generally. Then again, I bet if I thought about that, the list would be big too :)

  • Shit and i forgot Shaun of the Dead. Great video.

  • 28 Days later

    28 weeks later

    Descent

    Hatchet

    The Tripper

    The Hills Have eyes remake

    30 days of night

    Feast

    The Devils Rejects

  • Great list man. Hatchet was a fun departure back to the old days of slasher films. Kane Hodder done a great job. The Tripper I actually just bought a few days ago :P - will be in my next update. I'd seen it before and was impressed. Very different to a regular slasher film. Feast, again, was great. Loved how over the top and far out it was. Seems like the movie never stopped for a breath. I know there are two sequels out now - you seen them, and would you say they're worth watching?

  • I have Feast 2 its okay. Nowhere as good as the first. Its kinda goofy IMO. But some elements i did like about it. But i would say sure give it a watch. You should try to rent it or buy it for extremely cheap. Never seen part 3...I know it countiues where part 2 left off.

  • Cheers mate. I don't think I've seen any of the sequels at the video store yet, I'll have to wait and see. Thanks for the info mate ;)

  • You mentioned a few movies that you thought might not be horror films, I was just wonderin, have you seen David Cronenberg's "Spider"? and if so, what did ya think? Cool vid, good choices.

  • Thanks mate, that's really one I need to see. I should kick myself for having done so already, because I love Cronenberg. It slipped my mind.

Tell you what, I'll get back to on that. I have to go to the vid store in the next day or two, and I know its there, so I'll pick it up and tell you what I think.

What do you about it, what did you think of it?

  • It's a good movie, I'd highly recommend it. It's not really a horror film but it's very psychological, Ralph Fiennes gives a brilliant performance. However i do think it IS a very Cronenbergian film (my term, hehe). in the sense that it deals with a part of the human body, in this case the human psyche, becoming deranged and warped, and rotting away. you should give it a look.

  • Wow, from your description it sounds great. lol, your theory on Cronenbergian (:P) films is very true I think. The whole 'body horror' thing he seems obsessed with. Great to hear this movie very much sticks to that theme. Looking forward to seeing it.

  • Beautiful Horror Movies: Hellraiser Childs Play Nightmare on Elm Street Halloween Friday the 13th Phantasm Puppet Master Scream I Know what you did Last summer Texas Chainsaw Massacre Who's with Me?
  • I am! Great, beautiful movies!

That scene in Texas Chainsaw Masscare at the end where Leatherface throws a tantrum is beautious (yes, realise its not a word :)). The scene in Halloween where Michael slowly fades in behind Laurie enshrouded in blue light is beautious. The 'Jesus Wept' scene in Hellraiser was beautious - I could go on and on. :)

  • OMGZ how about The Grudge 2 lol J/K that movie sucked assss. Have you seen Død snø?

  • lol, ZOMG Grude 2 I forgot that one!11!!!1 :P

Død snø, not I haven't. I just looked it up - feck, that movie looks awesome mate. Thank you for the suggestion. I'm going to be hunting it down. What did you think?

  • The concept of Død snø is so great and it's actually done pretty well, it's got a good humor. I D/led the torrent of it and its good quality. It's definitely good for horror fans, because they make tons of random references. If I had a list I'd probably also add some mainstream films like American Psycho, the Hills Have Eyes remake, Final Destination and maybe The Mist or 1408.

  • Wicked mate. Sounds like a really fun film. Has a great rating over at IMDB. Do you think it'll get a DVD release?

  • It should have a release. IFC films owns the rights and they're good for releasing stuff. They released it in theatres here I think for a little bit.

  • That's good than. I don't think we'll see a cinema release, and I'm sceptical even a DVD release. Still no Mother of Tears or Inside released here. WTF?

  • Love shaun of the dead, really great horror/comedy film. Cloverfield is another great movie, i recently bought it on dvd.

    Great vid mate 5/5

  • Cheers mate. They are two great films. I think they are great examples of modern sub-genres - the horror/comedy and the monster movie. Thanks again mate ;)

  • I have to make 2 comments because this video is amazing! Seriously, everything you've mentioned is something I either love/own/want to see.

Zodiac is a very good film. Even knowing that the killer was never caught, there is still a huge amount of tension. I think it's a very well-made film and I agree that for a long film it never drags.

Your list is fantastic! Have you seen The Descent, Eden Lake or Inside? I think they're all really good too.

  • I love Zodiac, my personal fav Fincher film. I think that point you mention about the killer never been caught, heightens the tension and intrigue of the film.

Decent and Inside I have. Descent was excellent. One that actually slipped my mind. I liked the whole empowered women undertone and the cavernous setting, not to mention the creatures :). Inside I'd been anticipating for a long time. I really liked it, but I think my lofty hopes may have overshadowed the film. Need to watch it again.

  • I agree on Zodiac, it's very impressive.

Yeah, The Descent was great! I can't believe the ending was changed for the US release. Ridiculous! When I was watching it I was all "Well this is scary enough" and then those bloody creatures turn up! Scared the hell out of me, but in the best possible way. Good stuff.

I was really scared to watch Inside because everyone made it out to be the scariest/goriest film ever. It didn't really let me down... but it wasn't as "bad" as I expected, you know?

  • lol, I know what you mean. Its already tense enough with them being trapped, then Gollums schizophrenic brothers come jumping into frame :P

I had that same thing with Inside. It didn't seem as shocking or scary as I was made to believe. I still think its really good - maybe my anticipation killed it a bit? Don't know.

  • That first time we see the one in the background of the shot made me jump out of my seat! LOL @ "Gollum's schizophrenic brothers" - what an apt description!

Inside was definitely good, but I think people over-hyped it in terms of the fear and gore factor. To be honest, I'm glad it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be because I don't exactly have the strongest stomach! Anticipation can really lessen the effect of certain films though. It happens to me a lot. :-(

  • Sorry - Youtube can be a b*tch for leaving comments sometimes. I always end up writing in that 'Letter Confirmation' thing, when you exceed your comment limit, about 5 or 6 times before I get it right :P

lol, yeah, when you first see him its a shock :).

I totally get what your saying with Inside, and also with anticipation. It can really dampen an otherwise good film experience.

  • 28 Days Later is awesome! I wasn't a big fan of the sequel though. I actually really liked High Tension too, but the ending was a huge let-down unfortunately. It cheapened what was before it an excellent film. :-(

I've wanted to see Calvaire for ages! Good to see it on your list. I have Session 9 on DVD (a recent blind-buy) but haven't got around to watching it yet. I've heard great things though. Ugh, Audition is so icky, but I do love it.

Shaun of the Dead FTW! Oh, man, it's so funny.

  • Thank you :)

Yeah, a lot of people seem to feel that High Tension was cheapened by the plot surprise. personally, It didn't bother me, and actually made me appreciate the film more. I think it's very clever how that was incorporated & stands up to repeat viewings, which is essential for a film like this.

Calvaire is great - rush to get it! Really underrated. I can honestly say there is nothing else like it out there. Session 9 is brilliant. Hope to hear your thoughts when you watch it.

  • I tried replying to this a few times earlier but it wouldn't let me. :-(

  • Have you seen The Descent? That's probably my pick for best horror film of the decade.

  • I have - gah! Forgot about that one. Thanks for reminding me. That is a great film. The whole subterranean setting was very original and hugely creepy. Nice pick :)

  • The Descent was creepy. I jumped out of my chair when you see the monster for the first time.

  • Awesome vid mate!

  • Thank you mate, much appreciated man :)

  • No probs mate.
