  • The Moody Blues are not a band. They are THE BAND !

  • I visit my friend Christines grave every week, and this song helps me cope with missing her.Shes doing the things she was denied on earth. The Moody Blues reach far beyond any other band

  • This is a beautiful song and has always touched me as it has so many others. When I was eighteen, it made me feel sad. Still, somewhat self centered, it resonated with my feelings about feeling misunderstood..disconnected..no one on the outside would have know this..but everyone feels lonely at times..Today, at 59 I hear a different message..We are ALL connected and only as lonely as we decide to be.We need to share our deepest selves..but more importantly, listen and seek to understand others.

  • This for me is a very spiritual song. It can mean whatever I choose and that's what I like about it. If I'm sad or if I'm happy it satifies my soul.

  • i think this song is beautiful everytime i play it i think of my little girl who past away as it says in the song soon you will see me cuz i am all around you but were i come from you cant tell allthough i cant see my daughter i know her spirit is free in a better world but she comes to visit me every day in spirit this is gods way of telling us he cares about us and even though we cant see god he will always protect us xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Not a very nice subject so i apologise now, i instructed my children to play this at my funeral..kinda works for me x

  • I wish they played this when they tour. They have had the same set-list for the past 6-7 years now, perhaps longer. They have so many masterpieces to choose from.

  • I love this song, it is best listened to with headphones on. The best part is the humming at the end...

  • THEY WERE GRACIOUS A

    ND RESPECTFUL, TOO.

  • Hello Wolfgang;) I have always loved this song and agree with your words in the info box. There are two lines which always speaks to my heart, First is "Mole he is burrowing his way to the sunlight" So much meaning in these words. The Second words and the ones that touch my heart the most is "Soon you will see me cause I'll be all around you" To me it speaks of death and would be suitable for a Grave Head Stone ;) Ludo shared this one with me, I have watched it many times before;) Cheers Billy

  • Beautiful! Their music helped me through difficult times. Thanx!

  • yes this is one of justin s compositions most treasured by himself...what a sensitive soul, brilliant artist and classy lad. thanks Jus. a fan since 1967.

  • I imagine the tree is like the original tree of life.

  • Spiritual music from the very best band of our time

  • Forest is missing but the tree looks familiar...I believe I see mushrooms....

  • @laelamarie1 ;-)

  • @ralphyboy25 damned bench. I was looking at the background (wooded areas) and missed it completely...definfitely thinking of forests.

  • Paying tribute where due, got my honor. I am sure theirs too, and you got a friend, yes friend.

  • This group is magical. Right now I'm trying to stay sober. This music is making me want to drink and thats okay. I think it may be taking the place of a drink. Very spiritual. The ending takes me away to another place. Fantastic !!!

  • Nice

  • Wonderful song and video.

  • Something spiritual in this song.

  • Redbaron, I wish I could add to your comments in the "more info" section, but every time I try, my fingers are speechless! The other comments are so much deeper. Thanks for being alive, and for taking time out of your life to put together and post this video!

  • borecleaner - I live in Bothell and I missed the show at St. Michelle (Woodinville) as I had commitments out of town...but I just found out they are doing a cross Canada show...so I'll see them in Vancouver in the fall, as I did two years ago. The Moody Blues pack out every show they do...can't imagine what's it's like to have over 45 years of that kind of success...

  • @scandi938 They give their fans a quality product,so to speak.and they do it on a consistent basis and have done so for over forty-five years.Anytime I hear one of nmy favorite tunes from them,My mind drifts back to the time in my life that I associate that tune with......I live in Monroe

  • Redbaron863 you're drifty, dreamy affects in this video are absolutely brilliant. Has anyone from the Moody Blues ever commented on your videos of their music?

  • @makingsense53....no...I think not....

  • @redbaron863 I love the sureal affects. Are these your drawings?

  • @redbaron863 ...tree of life...beautiful. I wonder why more musicians don't connect to the source of life more often...if only to write such astounding lyrics as these! Thank You For Everything...And More.

  • brilliant tune...takes me to beautiful place every time...thank you

  • THANK YOU.

  • Thank you for sharing the beautiful vision...

  • Beautiful!!!

  • The person who first introduced me to these songs didn't have inner beauty in his soul, but this song has beauty and grace.

  • Makes me think of my sophomore year in high school, when this album came out.......Music like this melts the years away and brings me back to a simpler time in my life....My high school sweetheart [ and wife of almost thirty-three years ] bought two tickets to see the Moody Blues at the St Michelle winery in Woodinville this coming saturday ,June 4th......she's definitely a KEEPER.........

  • @borecleaner1 Have a good time tonight. Once saw the Moody Blues live 3 times in a week and a half time frame, about 1984.Chicago,Milwaukee and Kansas City.

  • @mrREDBIRDFAN My God,the concert was beyond AWESOME!!!!!!!!!.The band started with ''Gypsy'' and their encore was ''Ride my see-saw''.....thoroughly enjoyed myself !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @borecleaner1 Cool. Your girl sounds like a keeper. Where is Woodinville?

  • @mrREDBIRDFAN Woodinville is about a half hour or forty-five minutes East of Seattle, depending on traffic of course and what day of the week it is.The place was sold out!!!!!!

  • Having broken up with a long-term girl-friend in 1970, this song had great meaning to me in terms of the phrase 'Watching and Waiting for a freind to play, why have I been alone so long..'.......three years later I met my wife-to-be and 35 years of marriage later we are still very happy........this song brings back memories of feeling very lonely and isolated...but it is a beautiful song...I heard it played live at Manchesters Free Trade Hall in 1973/74! Thanks Justin!

  • @Fids51 I guess you were watching and waiting and found your love of your life.. God bless.

  • who would dislike this song?? like honestly!!

  • @bmachine098 I agree with you. The " people have different tastes " thing doesnt even work here.

  • @0neuponatime ikr!

  • They always had a mistique and after Justin talked to John Lennon about fame and the drawbacks visually the Blues never put their face pics on their alblums.

  • @cloudjia What a beautiful way to say the words that also express my love (since 1970) for Justin, All the Moodys, and the Blue Jays. (I ain't the most eloquent of poets on most occasions, but the emotions inside are the real deal)

  • I have been absolutely leveled and blown away since I first got the To Our Children's Children's Children LP in 1971 and this equisite piece has had me watching-and-waiting for the most astounding life imaginable. (and I revere the Moodies, All Of 'em! All Of Them, including Mike Pinder, a Moody forever) and, of course, Ray Thomas, a Moody forever.)

  • @cloudjia It's from To Our Children's Children"s Children. A great album. I could listen to these guys for hours.

  • @cloudjia It's from To Our Children's Children"s Children. A great album

  • Really outstanding work for a really beautiful piece of music.

  • If you live in America make sure that you get to see the Moodies at one of their 2011 concerts.

  • casstetler........I am so sorry for your loss. A coulpe of years ago, I lost my father-in-law, my brother(he was only 40) and my father, in a 2 month span. It's amazing how music and certain songs and artists, help bring back all the good memories you have of love ones who have passed on. The moodies helped me get through that tough time. I miss my loved ones dearly, but I know that music like this will help me to remember all the "great times" we had together. Stay strong, my friend.

  • It is so bizarre that i revisted this video after hearing my brother of 53 years passed away yesterday, he had estranged from his family for almost 10 years, and the night before he passed I went to see him in the hospital to make peace with him. Then I see comments from a couple folks who lost their brother at an early age. It is very surreal. It made me tear up. I may consider playing it at a memorial service for him.

Thank you, Moody Blues, for making timeless music during my lifetime.

  • Interesting comment silverstarshine. I never considered either the mellotron or the tempo to be anything less than perfect in relation to this recording which, incidentally, I consider to be one of The Moodies' finest moments. There's something eerily sublime about it, in a similar way to Mahler's Adagio (5th Symphony), except I prefer Justin's song, probably for nostalgic, evocative-of-youth reasons. Shame it all had to end. Waiting to hear each album as it came out was one life's real joys

  • Beautiful song, which I find so calming to listen to. Just sends me into another world...

  • I just realised the opening with the rocking between 2 notes is a bit like Saturn from Holst's Planets, like it is representing the ticking of time.

  • A Very Beautiful Moody Blues Tune. The Imagery in this video captures the feeling of the song perfectly

  • this song is albout my cousent mersadie magro its all about my best cousent

  • this song is the essence of my teen years

of sad loss of a brother

self discovery and the emergence of new talent

im famous now because of the memory of this beautiful timeless song

    a half forgotten dream/

    a hint of exotic perfume

    orjust my imagination

    escobar ni ceolosa

  • This song is so beautiful and so calming, they should play it in Doctor's waiting rooms as a way of calming anxiety. It's nice to take a relaxing, candlelit bath and just lie back and listen to this music.

  • Excellent singing and playing!

  • Ever since I first heard To Our Children's Children's Children as a 13 year old boy in 1971 I have loved the Moody Blues. To me, this remains their best album and although it's solid gold from start to finish, only Watching and waiting can move me to tears, just as it has on this occasion. Why? Not sure: it's sad, yet full of hope. Having been made bankrupt and lost my house, been through heart surgery & struggling with having no work, maybe I'm vulnerable. Whatever, the Moodies are a constant.

  • @stevensnpls Yes they do touch your soul. They touched mine at the very young age of 6 and I have never looked back since. My favorite band for 34 years.

  • such a dreamy sound.

  • Yes he is a genius!! The best around. Nobody else compares in my book

  • Justin Hayward is a musical GENIUS !!!

  • A very beautiful melody, Watching and Waiting and Candle of Life are the 2 best songs on To Our Children's Children, perhaps of all Moody Blues albums. I wore this LP track out in the 70's whenever I felt sad.

  • Always been a great song- I salute the person that made this because it was very relaxing and very sweet and I thank-you.

  • A song for the Creator

  • @andymission A big and hearty AMEN to that !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SO BEAUTIFUL

  • Brings back memories that make me feel sick with nostalgia for my adolescent angst in the 1970s...

  • @robertbarton1 :))....same here....it also is a fantastic song.....

  • @robertbarton1 SAME HERE. OLD AGE SUCKS. BEING YOUNG IS LIFE

  • Comment removed

  • It sounds like a dream pop song...

  • As in Aldous Huxley's words " A Gratuitous Grace"

    My heart felt thanks.

  • moody blues absolutely blow my mind.....wow....cant say i feel this way about any other band

  • Just wondering what part Ray Thomas played in the writing of the song ?

I guessing that he worked on the lyrics ... but thats just my speculation.

( wonder if Justin ever had another stab at recording this classic ? )

  • It may seem heresy for me to say this... but

I feel that Justins voice and the backing ( mellotron ? ) .... are out of sync... ! Its lovely but I feel theres something wrong here.

I wonder if Justin was fully satisfied with the result ? Had I been the producer I would have pushed up the tempo a little I think its too slow.... !

and maybe even beefed up the mellotron... quite haunting background.

But the song itself... wot can I say.... quite brilliant

    one of Justins best ever

  • @silverstarshine2003 Justin Hayward himself said, "Mike and his mellotron made my songs work." I'm inclined to believe that he meant what he said, and I agree with him. God bless all of them: what a special group they were--each of them so wonderfully creative.

  • Mellotron FTW

  • This is the last track on a stunning album, with every other track atmospheric and beautiful. Used to play it constantly. Each track could be single in its own right (this track was with Out And In as B), and Candle Of Life was incredibly a B side to Question! Album inspired by the Moon landings with Space Travel and Children as themes.

  • Have been listening to this song since it was released...I'm listening now...with tears running down my face....

  • where are these good times went,my friends.

wil we ever hear music as good as this again?

or are artists these day,s only interessed in the big money.

    anyway,listen and enjoy.

  • This was made for our peaceful kind. Super great song.

  • My brother Terry died in a car crash a week ago. I am the oldest of 4 siblings. He was 19 months younger than me. When we were in High School, he had an eight track player in his bedroom and would play Watching an Waiting every night over and over again until he fell asleep. It truly defined him and I cried even back then that he felt this way. Moody Blues has always been something he and I shared. I haven't listened to this song for years until tonight, he was memorialized today.

  • @casstetler100 God bless Terry and you. He works in mysterious ways. He will always be in your heart and will live on. You must keep him alive by your love. "No one dies" they just move on!

  • @casstetler100 I lost my first-born son this past February. He was always the most distant of my three boys; as though he was trying to figure something out. God has him now and I'm sure he's getting all the answers he sought,.....your brother sounds very much like my son; always watching and waiting. God bless.

  • @casstetler100 How very sad - losing someone we love is never easy.

I hope in time this song and the Moodies music will bring you peace and wonderful memories of Terry

  • @casstetler100 Its nice to see you loved you brother. iwish i had a brother like you.

  • @casstetler100

Terry was one of less than .01% of people in the USA that made this song part of his heart. It's part of mine. He was just looking for the next chapter. He must have been a gentle soul.

  • @casstetler100

Thanks for sharing that. Losing a sibling is terrible. I know, my little brother committed suiced at the age of 46 two years ago. He and I were big Moody Blues fans. It gets a tiny bit easier every day, my friend.

  • @casstetler100 Im sorry so special that song how heavy for you.

  • @casstetler100 I am so sorry. This song is what you can still share. Even now. I have four brothers and can only imagine your pain. This song is both of yours....and will be forever. God bless.

  • @casstetler100 So sorry for your loss, hopefully this music will always connect you!!

  • @casstetler100 im soo sorry :'(

  • @casstetler100 ..............I understand, It's so hard yet comforting that you were able to use this as your memorial. I too lost my brother and memorialized him in the song "The Circle of Life". My sympathies go out to you....know, you are not alone. Oh, and by the way....This song is how 'I' feel.

  • @casstetler100 What's crazy, is, I used to do something much like that as a late teen-ager (1973 or so). If I'd sleep in the daytime, I'd listen to the last 3 minutes or so of "Nights in White Satin" with a record player I tampered with to recycle those few minutes endlessly. Played at very low volume, it'd send me into a dream state, and I never slept better! I didn't discover "Watching..." until later; I probably would have used it instead...it is a monumentally fantastic song!

  • @casstetler100

So sorry! This is a ballad of epic proportions that your brother had the insight and heart to appreciate. I'm sure it has a very deep meaning for you now. I hope time has been a healing salve for you.

    Blessings.

  • @casstetler100

Oh, Man, how sad... I am so sorry that you lost your brother in an accident. Why does life have to be so cruel?

In the 60's I used to listen to Steppen Wolf's "It's Never Too Late To Start All Over Again" every morning, so I can identify with your brother's mind set. It was a bad time for me, but that song helped me get through everything. Lamar

  • @casstetler100 My oldest sister ,Kathy, died 4 yrs. ago and this song also reminds me of Kathy'. We had the same feelings about music . I miss her so very much. I am sorry about Terry- so very hard to lose your sibling. I have listened to this song one million x- It doesn't make me sad and I am sure that most people feel this way at one or another time of their life. Justin - wonderful gentleman, he too loved this song. He knows that everything himself, the others, the instruments, made the MB

  • I never heard tis beautiful song from The Moody Blues !!

  • Greatest Heavenly song on earth ever made.

I already know what song will quide me to the next life...

Soon You will see me.....cause You're all around me.

And where I come from, I can tell...

  • Absolutely beautiful! I love this music and the only reason I got into it was because I had a relationship with a married, Scouse security guard back in 2005 and we used to sit in the Park Office and he used to play me all these songs on his cassette player. Lost the man, but still adore the music!

  • my fave were always Pinder and Hayward ...for me this is their best album ...to our children children children's is a classic...i don't know archeologists ... but i think that those guys... includin' people interested in history and people open to late 60s music , all they will surely love this album...

  • From the Album, "To Our Children's Children's Children's" I belive it was a concept album about traveling through strange and distance lands, (space), and seperation. The whole album is a wonderful journey. it's on YT. Thanks for the video redbaron863.

  • For some reason Justin lost the rights of a lot of his music to the Universal music group I hate them

  • the moodies never played this one live I don't think..but it is a masterpiece. beautiful mellotron and chord structure. simply elegant. I always wondered if the rest of the world saw the genious in the first 7 albums..the later stuff is hit or miss but the first were just great.

  • I could not agree with you more....

  • I normally listen to this song when I'm really sad and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye. After a few listenings I do feel better. I adore the early Moody music...some of the best that has ever been made.

  • This song is so beautiful and emotional. The Moodies at the peak of their powers.

  • Ethereal

  • why does life have to be so hard ?

  • i as well lost..my Father.Mother, and Sister w/in a 6 yrs period, only 3 of us left.... Enjoy what u have today, and look for tomorrow with a smile and a strong Heart... My heart goes out To Alll of you who have Lost yours...

  • This song soooo gets to my Heart. and when i listen,,,my mind goes to the closeing scenes of the movie "AI" Speiburgs classic story of a Boy (robotic) who was placed into a family to ease the loss of a son,but who later came back.. then the child was abandoned...and relentlessly tried to find his "human" Mother ...wehom hel loved...the blues Fairy could do this, the ending was and is soooo tender and Heart breaking..includeing the Bear....watched and loved ...

  • you just break my heart So much! I wish you the best this life of ours has to to offer as for the loss you have suffered the Tears are countless

  • I lost a daughter..God Bless You my friend!!

  • Timeless spiritual stuff. Loved these guys since the sixties from Flower Power to the current, their music always seems to strike a chord whatever the decade. My friends in the seventies said they were too poetic and were head banging to Black Sabbath and Deep Purple who I did like, but the Moodies were the one's to touch my soul.

  • So emotional. This song always makes me well up.

  • How can anyone w/ any feelings cast a Dislike on this masterpiece of a song...? I guess they just missed the message...too bad!

  • When you look at all 428 comments to date and how much this song has affected people, it speaks to the power of amazing musicians.

We rented a planetarioum 32 years ago for our wedding, and my wife walked down the aisle to this song while a star show was playing. It still makes me calm.

  • @alittlepale

That had to be an amazing experience. Very creative

  • @alittlepale

Indeed it truly does speak volumes on their genius!!

  • van alle mooie is dit de mooiste, luister maar goed!!

  • Listening to this song brought back so many memories. What beautiful music was created once, with beautiful and meaningful (albeit sad) lyrics.

  • @ahosek What would you know - I had a look at your site. Jeez!

  • @ahosek I hope, I really do, that when the pain comes from the loss of someone who meant everything to you that you find the strength to cope with it. Does anyone mean that much to you?

  • The Moody's always pointed us down the road to the eternity from which we all spring, but for some reason on this earth are denied rational understanding.

Like all great poets and artists, they lead us to discover the road we can only travel through our hearts.

A sublime and perfect song for the journey. Bless you Justin Hayward!!

  • Moody Blues forever !! Great song .

  • Watching and waiting for a friend to play with. Why have I been alone so long?

He knows there is someone there so strong! So you will see me cause I will be all around you. Don't be alarmed.

    God is the tree.

I want everyone to try to ask themselves if they think they can do it alone? Please understand that he is here to help. I hope it won't be very long?

  • What a beautiful tribute to the Earth and to consciousness!

  • A very wonderful song...truly… amazing…you can’t help to love it...Very special for only the special that can really here it for what it is…absolutely wonderful!!!

  • Just absolutely beautiful and moving. It almost makes me cry...this combination of outstanding music and really great fantasy like graphics.

I don't know where you got them but I would love to see more. It combines my two greatest loves....this soul capturing music and nature.

  • funny how the touch of divinity always spurs natural images similar to this in me. Mine always includes a small waterfall and a crystal pool.

  • @noddwyd That's because divinity and life are found only in nature; the energy-giving sun, oxygen-producing plants, nitrogen-fixing microbes, etc. Nothing at all to do with an imaginary, bearded white ghost floating around in the sky

  • great song, remember the sixties?using big org wasnt usealy okee back then, but listen wat a effect.

they,re responsebal for change in people,s head and hearts.great tekst and great lyrics

  • I think this and Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?) are his BEST. Sue

  • @frausrs hello

  • @lance12461 hello this is the first time i have made a comment , this is a beautiful song .i have been a fan since 1970 i just lost my niece...... 20 years old is much too young to go i would of given up my life for her....

  • @lance12461 God bless you. I lost my first-born son in February, there is no pain as that of losing a loved one. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

  • A time gone by, yet as close as my memory. So many memories.

  • My mind has waves, tangible waves of spiritual feeling when I hear something this magical, this touching.

  • As peaceful as some SL sims....sweet.

  • Does someone have a kleenex???

  • Why can he not sing this in concert? the best song ever!!

  • This music is so beautiul, it is beyond our understanding..

  • always has given me goose pimples. It's so beautiful!

  • I haven't heard this song in a long time. Used to have this on tape. I previously had remarked that Radiohead's "Pyramid Song" sounded a lot like King Crimson's Epitath. It stil does in a lot of ways, but I hear a lot of Watching and Waiting in Pyramid Song as well.

  • love it

  • Justins voice is so angelic and unique. At times I feel like crying because my emotions get so stirred up from his singing. Justin is a rare gem when it comes to men. Marie is one lucky woman. I'll be seeing The Moodies tommorrow night ( 6/30 ) @ Milwaukee's Summerfest . Free show :)

  • one of the greatest Hymms of all time.....

  • Unreal emotions in his voice...gotta love the Moody Blues!

  • greenez62 I agree. Great musos and "message makers".

  • awesome song! saw them July 29, 2009 in Woodinville, Wa. and this was the first time I saw them. Almost 60 and this song takes me back to my youth!

  • This brings me back to my sophomore year in high school.I got home and threw the vinyl album on the ''hi-fi'' console monstrosity in the living room. What a wistful and haunting tune, full of reflection and yearning....My daughter [29]even listens to the moody blues and loves this selection.this will last forever !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Moodie Blus song, saw them on July 29, 09 in Woodinville, Wa.

  • @greenez62 beautiful thought..

  • Lovely,as all from the Baron.Moodies my fav.(+Rolling Stones)

  • watching and waiting and loving this song. :-)

  • who ever put this video with the song did an awsome job,I love it!

  • Is the animation from Water Ship Down maybe?

  • It is the best thing ever, It makes me go back in time to mi childhood, doesn't matter the meaning of the lirycs, I know it takes anybody some where. It's great!!!

  • I mean, don't waste your resources on psychoanalysts, just find every Moody Blues album ever made and listen until you are once again forgiving,.....and patient.

  • For those who want to listen to something Godlike. That Treeman sums everything up!

Hope "To our children's, children's, children" too.
