  • I'd eat that for dinner.

  • I feed my great dane HIGH quality = less poo. She wats 4 cups 2X a day. I add hot water to it and potatoes too!! She is healthy

  • I cook free-range chickens for my dogs exactly the same way. They love having rice cooked in the leftover chicken broth. I mix the chicken meat and the rice together and this lasts them for a few meals each.

    GREAT VIDEO!

  • Andrew Buchanan a star is born, That was well funny mate nice one! Also very informative, A+ to the lad.

  • Do u always feed chicken to your great Dane? Is that her daily food?

  • HOW MANY LBS. DOES YOUR DANE EAT A DAY?

  • @marinero5

I feed Abbey about 11/2 pounds a day. Not all at one time. She is almost 6years old and weighs 165 pounds. The thing with Abbey is that she only eats when she is hungary. Sometimes two three times a day and some days not at all. We live in Las Vegas Nevada where it is hot! The key with Great Danes is alittle several times a day is better than alot once a day. Don't get them excited before eating and let them sleep afterward!!!!! This video was made for school project.

  • hey i live in las vegas too! :]

would you recommend and type of dry dog food i could get at the pet stores like maybe petsmart or somewhere like that? thanks

  • @hillaryjp1

When I first got Abbey everyone told me dogs need high grade dog food and I fed her something I bought at petsmart. She never really liked it. One day last year I was at Walmart and I bought the Walmart Meaty Chunks and Gravy. I found that she liked it alot more and the gravy was a plus. I also use a few scraps that we have left over, she eats less, and the price is afforable. Danes RULE!!!

  • aren't you suppose to feed them higer off the ground to advoid bloating??

  • nice video cheers from australia .

  • @planes100 Thank You, cheers from Las Vegas

  • Does the meat have to be cooked for Great Danes? In the wild they don't cook their meet right?

  • bibbuggie

I don't know. You would think raw food would be OK, BUT Danes have problems with their stomachs bloating. I would check with a Veterinarian before I went to an all raw food diet. Great Danes rule!!!!!!!!!

  • No cooked meat in nature! Raw is 1000 times better for Danes who do tend to bloat. Kibble is a major cause but not the only one. There are reports out there from kibble companies that do not recommend adding water to kibble because it can ignite bacterial growth. Plus it makes dry kibble swell in the gut, bloat time!

  • animals can cook?! wow... dumb question.

  • That's because animals in the wild kill and eat their food straight away, before it can get salmonella and the like. Food that you buy in the store needs to be cooked because it has been sitting there, refrigerated, for ages.

  • Hi, here in Brazil we also feed great danes at shoulder height. That was one of the first things that the vet advised when we got Apollo. The vet said that it can actually be painful for them to eat and drink from the floor, and eventually can cause back problems as they get older.

    Beautiful dog! =)

  • decadorio

when I feed my dog a treat she always drops her head to the floor to chew and swallow. The Great Dane breed has been around for hundreds of years and this new feeding method about twenty years. If you feel that feeding your dog off the ground helps them then by all means do it. Great Danes rule.

  • The amount of protein for dogs varies by the dogs size breed and activity. My sister in-law feeds her Husky a 100% diet of raw meat. Dogs by nature are meat eating machines. Danes were bred to hunt Wild Bore. If your dog is more active then they need more protein. When we got our Abbey she weighed 111pounds for her size she was 30 pounds under weight. The Guru said be aware of your dogs needs and be consistent whatever you do. She gives her Danes extra protein in a wet form once a day.

  • Growing Great Danes only need about 21% protein MAX, and adults only about 23%. Too much protein will start major issues. Raw/Prey Model is seriously the best diet for them as it is biologically appropriate, no cooking or deboning necessary. Check out rawfed and rawlearning "dot" com to see what I mean. KIBBLE KILLS

  • great video. gorgous dog you have. just wondered though, dont you feed your dane at shoulder height. we do in england as its supposed to help prevent bloat.

  • 2hittle145

Thank you for your comment. We found a woman here in Las Vegas, NV who raised Great Danes for show. She told us that to prevent bloat we should not feed Abbey after or before activities. Treats are OK. Great Danes should be allowed time after feedings for sleeping. Our Abbey sleeps at least an hour after eating and will not eat if she is to excited. I have observed that Abbey will lower her head almost to the ground when I giver her any kind of treat. The BEST dog I have ever owned.

  • Great video, great commentary from the little man! I wondered about the chicken. Isn't there too much protein in it for a Dane? I have a 12 week old female Harlequin and have heard sooo many theories on feeding but the one common thread seems to be low protein. Right now my pup gets only dry food, brand of Nature's Recipe. Do you find the Natural Choice to be superior? My girl Delilah is beautiful and healthy but obviously I am concerned about giving her what will be best.

  • Our Great Dane Guru here in Las Vegas Nevada says that Great Danes need some wet food at least once a day. I feed my dog a dry chicken and rice formula plus the chiken dinner every night. I havn't tried your brand of dog food so I can't say if it is better. I get my chicken at Food For Less. It costs about 50 to 70 cents a pound. This turns out to be cheaper than canned dog food which is 90% water. Dogs need at least 70% protein in their diet. Give your dog meat and she will love you even more.

  • Thanks so much for responding. I am confused though. Everything I've read states that a Dane's food should not have more than 20% protein in it. If it is not too much trouble, would u ask your Guru that question for me? Thanks for the advice on the wet food, I will definitely look into that. Another problem I have is that I am Vegan. Obviously I will do what is best for my pup but I'd like to do so w/o supporting factory farming at the same time. I plan to look into a local beef farm nearby tho.

  • Dogs need about 2-3% of their ideal adult body weight in food. Most all raw meat is only about 18% protein, some can go up to 23-25 ish %. The daily ration should be 80% meat, 10% raw edible bone and 10% organ/liver. Are you referring to 70% protein as the meat portion? Kibble does not fit in. It has only been around commercially for about 60 years and raw diets since the dawn of dogs.
