I really enjoy your videos, but I have some serious problem with my English
my mother language is Polish, I've been learning English for 2 years, got basics like the most used verbs and stuff, but I stuck on some level and I dunno where to go
I can understand like 90% of text and whole sense but my knowledge is breaking up on small things and that kinda makes my English not good
needless to say I'm regulary watch movies in original (sometimes with subs) and listen to the music
As cliche as it may sound, learning another language is like opening the doors to another world (one not so different from ours) ..and it creates a better understanding between two cultures which is a beautiful thing! <3
And if you're one of those snobby polyglots, get over yourself..learn languages to relate to people of different cultures, not to bring other people down or to show off.
Thank you for sharing the motivation! I always knew there was a way to learn more languages without having books, tapes, and classes. Now I am exploring my heritage language, which automatically requires other contact languages. You are a real encouragement that self-learning is not only possible, but extremely effective.
@laoshu505000 The words bilingual and trilingual do exist. For more than 3 languages I don't think there is another term to use but multilingual or polyglot, so I think it would be 4 languages or more to be called a polyglot. I have even read some sources that use the word "hyperpolyglot" refering to a person who speaks 6 languages or more.
@CrazyLassBeing a linguist isn't a matter of how many languages you know but broadness of understanding of how different langs work. I think a person who speaks English, Japanese and Arabic is far more entitled to call himself a linguistic than a Spaniard who just learns half a dozen other Latin langs
@CrazyLassi If you can speak two languages, you're simply called Bilingual. Bilingual people are quite common in many countries, where citizens are required to learn their native tongue, and also English. Trilingual is the term given to people who speak three languages, and these are significantly rarer, though still quite common in most Far East Asian countries. I'd say you need to speak 4 languages to be called a Polygot. Better if they're multi-regional.
@CrazyLassi By definition it's 4 (i'm pretty sure). There's bilingual, trilingual, then polyglot. I'm (pretty) sure there's not a quad-lingual or anything like that.
"Something I wanna do before I leave this earth..." That's what's so cool about this guy. It's more like encouragement and motivation, even a sort of philosophy of life that we language learners are looking for. A mathematician name Paul Erdos said: "Problems worth of attack prove there worth by fighting back." Learning a language is hard but it's worth the fight! Don't give-up!
Respect! I speak Spanish and English fluently, going after French currently and after that I have Swedish in mind. any specific tips or videos on HOW to learn languages?
@Batumani I am learning 2 new languages in the same time as well as increasing my knowledge in two more, semi new. so like I am learning four in the same time
Well said, Moses. It's good that you are sharing realistic beliefs about language learning. I also support the views of the other polyglots you mention, although I have never had any communication with Luca. You'll be pleased to hear as well that Alexander Arguelles has agreed to meet with me for interview if I can get over to Singapore sometime next year.
your flr videos few questions about it . frist , how much do they cost . second , do they teach the whole language or just speaking . three , where can i purchase them . thank you so much and thank you for being so awesome . peace .
Alot of people I'm sure look up to you guys, I know I do. Indeed I do. I can look up to anybody who promotes Multilingualism whether they speak many languages or just a few. But you I look up to not only cause you promote multilingualism but because you are real and try to answer our questions. you make many videos about all aspects of language learning. You truly want people to love languages just like you do. that I really look up to.
Richard Simcott, Luca, Steve Kaufman, Professor Arguelles, Loki, Falsuye and a lot others.. you can find more when doing a search for ''Youtube Polyglots''
heyy :) i am english, i have recently started speaking spanish, i find it really cool, im learning 100% by myself though so its a little hard, im learning it fully text based so i dont really know how a lot of words are pronounced untill i hear it in spanish speech. anyway enough of me going on. I thought your video was cool :)
you are one of the best polyglots on youtube. you are not only speak the languages but also share your resources and motivate language students. I was happy for you when I saw your name in wikipedia. I wish all the best for you and for language students and teachers
Nice video. I hope many people watch it and find some encouragement to learn another language (or several). It's such fun and there is really no excuse why not to... especially nowadays and with the amount of resources available.
It's good to see that polyglots are now also contacting each other, as well as showing others that multiple language learning is not impossible, but actually very doable and enjoyable . :-)
I look forward to speak to you on Skype some day as well,
Really nice video and really nice words. Hope we'll catch up on skype some day and have a great chat on language learning (in Chinese too! :-)). There might have been some misunderstanding in the past, but the new key word now is cooperation. The truth is that we can all learn a lot from each other. Many thanks from Italy :-D Luca
I am really pleased you liked my video. It was a pleasure to speak to you on Skype and I hope to talk to you again soon. You are not only great at motivating people to learn languages but you are also a really nice guy.

You're absolutely right. I am mentoring people and if they become better linguists than me, great! If they give it the necessary time, of course they will do. I give a methodology freely that will save them time, and also confirms what you say, that anyone can learn, if they only have motivation and method. Language schools in the main don't have a vested interest in turning out empowered linguists, but that's what a disinterested polyglot mentor, like you or I, really want to do.
Hey laoshu. Just another quick question: do you bootcamp train in every language you have any interest in/are curious about or are there languages you "try out" first to see if you want to seriously learn them? I heard you've dabbled in French and German before and was curious if you used your two month study plan for those as well or if you just learned the basics.
Hello Laoshu! Your passion for language learning inspires me to learn languages! I have watched many of your videos and find them very interesting. You have many good tips that I will incorporate into my language practice time. Thank you so much! I am happy that I have stumbled upon your page. You are the best!

How many languages do you have to learn to be called a Polyglot? I think 3,4 is kind of popular.

@CrazyLassi That's a good question. It seems to be different for everyone. I think it may be at least 5 languages.

But offcourse you have to get guidense on the way!
And I want to thank you for your love on learning languages and sharing it with other people. And the guidence you give to other peoples!
