I got same problem and it just kept getting worse ,i have to keep starting up computer with instillation disc using repair option, this is after i sent it to a computer tech. I finally solved the problem using a sledge hammer as i have a very short fuse. The only time it did work properly was when there were no updates installed.

Check for a RESTORE Point before this happened. You may also just need to re-install drivers -- but it acts more like a trojan/virus/worm. Otherwise a re-install may be what you need. Get a technician to help if you aren't willing for a little trial and error learning.

Hey dude I have the same problem again. You need to first DELETE the VLC Movie player or whatever it's called. That thing has viruses. And If you have frost or limewire delete them to. To restore your PC, Go to the search bar and type in Restore and restore it. I hope this helps. (I am on safe mode at the moment :( )

my reccomendation is, format to the orriginal equipment manufacturers settings, and wait for windows 7 so that it will run smoother with all the goodies, vista is a joke, and was a big mistake by microsoft and is nothing more than a visual and security upgraded xp, not much more secure. and hogs ur resourses.

for example, i had vista home premium 32 bit, and it was running 788 mb ram idleing ( keep in mind i have 4 gigs), and my processors are 3.4 ghz both physical, i have a nvidia 9600 gt, and i tried playing prototype, not the most visual game, and it wouldnt play, so i backed it to xp 64 bit to take advantage of my ram, and there isnt a thing that will bog this comp down. so im running 300 mb ram at idle with full visuals in xp, vista is the problem. and so is the virus you have on your computer.

...virus. and your other problem is vista it hogs your resources, no dont buy a new harddrive yet, you'll waste your money, first thing, after all your boot checks are done hit f8 before it gets a chance to boot to windows try safe mode with networking, if that doesnt work, try using the built in recovery partition in your hd that cannot be affected by the virus, every recent stock computer has one, now pop in your acer disc and click full restore and dont bother backing up your stuff its useles

To late i already got a 1.5 T HDD for $100 and i deleted all my stuff i don't need and i took it to best buy they scanned the HDD i scanned the HDD there was no virus, it's was because i had 9GB left on my HDD so yeah !

Once i backed up my files i switched over to normal mode and it was fine !

When you go in SAFE MODE some of your drivers get disabled !
