No. Truth doesn't need any bloodshed. Suffering is totally irrelevant to truth. If I get the answer wrong and then stab myself in the eyeball the answer does not become right, neither does it become right if somebody decides to kill me.
Thank you for sharing your believes with us, it shows that you care about the others and in your view you want to lead them to see the truth and the light. I just have 2 points to share with you:
1) Are you willing to take the gamble that after you pass away you'll find that there is really a God. Why it's so important to prove that God doesn't exist?
2) Don't judge Christianity based of Christians, we are all humans and we all do make mistakes.
What gamble? For there to be a gamble I would have to exist separate from my body. I have no experiences of existing without a body. All my experiences are entirely consistent with the hypothesis that I am my body. When my body is asleep or drunk or anaesthetized so am I. So when my body ceases to work I cease to be. It's a very simple concept and one which obviously was also the default assumption for all Hebrews until the time of the Babylonian captivity - read that Bible and see for yourself.
"As for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that God said, 'I Am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living." -Jesus, quoting a passage from Exodus.
If anything, Babylon is when a lot of Jewish religious leaders stopped believing in the resurrection and eternal life. The promise of eternal life predates Babylon by a good 2500 years. Otherwise, why promise a Messiah to all of humanity, let alone one nation?
You don't fool me with your tricksy readings. I have read the Bible, page by page, fresh. If you read the Old Testament with the New in your head you can't understand what it says, that is why Christians always read from both Testaments at every service, to keep you constantly bamboozled.
Why would anybody have to be immortal to benefit from a king? Jewish messiahs are just kings, not the sons of God. You're clutching at straws, there is no afterlife in Judaism until well after Isaiah.
So God's name, revealed in Exodus, means nothing? God is. Not was. He did not tell Moses, "I was the God of your ancestors." He told him, "I AM the God of your ancestors."
If Jesus was wrong in anything He said about the Father, you'll have to submit evidence of this.
In light of God's promise to Abraham, what else would be the purpose of the sacrifice, if not a precursor to mankind's restoration to eternal life?
Correct. It means nothing. Exodus does not have God say "Abraham's right here, he sends his love." You are reading far too much into that.
God does not promise eternal life to anybody in the Old Testament. Long life is the proof of God's blessing, that is why all the prophets and patriarchs are described as having absurdly long lives. This would be futile if there was an afterlife. Once the afterlife was invented they stopped pretending that godly people lived ridiculously long lives. Wake up!
OK, we're using entirely different terms. I'm referring to ETERNAL life and the resurrection. You're referring to life after death. There's a difference. Eternal survival is something we already possess as our souls are immortal. Eternal life is the restoration of our souls to God. The resurrection is the physical raising of our bodies from the dead. God calling Himself the God of the living--in Exodus--is proof of both concepts. We on the same page now?
So what is the purpose of eternal life? It had better be a big one if it will sustain you for ever. What will you invest your first billion years of eternity in trying to achieve? Telling somebody what he knew all along huh? Thought so. That must give you immense satisfaction.
You have been sold a bunch of lies, and you are trying to get other people to believe in them too so you feel less of a dupe. And it isn't working. Is it?
"What will you invest your first billion years of eternity in trying to achieve?"
Getting to know God. Suppose it takes one year to learn everything there is to know about an individual. There have been at least 12 billion people who have been born on this planet throughout history, each possessing part of God's personality. So it should take me no less than 12 billion years to get to know God completely.
I have no plans for an impossible existence. I understand what I am. When I was young I had a small brain and small, sensational experiences. Then I grew bigger and my mind grew bigger. Never have I been awake while my brain has been asleep, well while my brain was sick or sober while my brain was drunk. My conclusion: I am my brain. From the same experiences you conclude you are an immortal soul temporarily housed in a body you think shameful. Why? The ancient Hebrews didn't think that.
You're really bad at reading people, aren't you? You assume that I hate my life because of my body. You assume that the ancient Hebrews were materialistic. You're wrong on both counts. If Abraham was a materialist, he never would have followed God. And he certainly wouldn't have been willing to give up Isaac.
I'm not ashamed of the frailness of my body. I simply place more value on my soul--that is, my mind, will, and emotions--and my spirit, because my body is so temporary.
I haven't thought about you at all. Stop flattering yourself that this is personal.
I know the ancient Hebrews believed that life ended with death, I've read their pitifully few books. Why would life have to be eternal in order to worship a god? If something (a life blessed by a god) is worth having it is worth having however much of it is available to be had. People keep pets knowing they are likely to outlive them, permanence is not necessary.
But are you willing to give your life for what you believe to be the truth? Does your faith have that kind of endurance? Truth withstands the test of suffering.
Christians have not inflicted more suffering than they have endured. There were more Christian martyrs in the 20th century than in the 19 before it put together. Even during the time of the Crusades, the number of deaths inflicted by "Christians" pales in comparison to the number of Christian martyrs today.
I don't believe in magic, I don't believe in sacrifices to placate gods or fate. I have no built-in tendency to aspire to martyrdom. I also don't believe that truth is measured by resistance to torture, if it was then Protestantism and Catholicism would both be true because each sect bunt the others who died willingly as fools. Martyrdom is ridiculous superstitious thinking. I would be prepared to die for my beliefs but I would not expect that would prove that any such beliefs were true!
But if something is true, you expect that truth to hold up in spite of extreme pressure, constant testing, and the most violent opposition, do you not? The word of God is the only thing in the world to have held up under every test. Thus you can't merely discard it as fairy tales. There has to be something more to it that makes people react to it the way they do. Have you never wondered why we are willing to suffer; willing to forgive and love our enemies?
Ah, resistance to torture reveals people are telling the truth does it? How? In what way does being right make a person supernaturally brave? Buddhist monks set fire to themselves - are they right? No. Just wrong but brave. Truth and bravery are not connected. Bravery may be connected with sincerity, to a degree, but sincerity does not require verity. People can be sincerely wrong.
People have been martyred for lots of contradictory "truths", and you know it.
What fool will die for what he knows to be a lie? And if something is a lie, it will not endure over time, especially when it's subjected to trials and torture. Truth is like a lump of coal; you put enough pressure and heat on it, it will only become harder, purer, and more valuable. Unlike a lie, truth cannot be destroyed.
If what I believe is a lie, then why were Christians not wiped out long ago when they dared to love their enemies--which, logistically, is foolishness?
How many men died believing Hirohito was a god? Martyrdom requires sincere belief, not belief in truth.
The human body is not equipped with any organ capable of detecting truth directly. Hearts pump blood. Brains think and feel. Open your eyes and look around you! People believe different things and are willing to kill and die for different things, this willingness says NOTHING about whether what they believe in is actually true.
19 hijackers believed they were doing Allah's will. So?
You're still thinking short term. 19 hijackers left a terrible legacy that is all of eight years old and was counterproductive to their goal to Islamize the world. Get away from the here and now and think about history and the future.
Lies cannot last forever.
Truth is timeless. Truth is enduring. Truth is a diamond.
Short term? What are you talking about? Was Hirohito a god, yes or no? Many men died believing Hirohito was a god. Sincerely. Just as sincere as any Christian or Muslim martyr. Dying proves nothing more than sincerity of belief, at the most. Your willingness to die cannot prove your cause correct.
Of course lies can last for ever, if people use faith! That is the only way lies can be protected. Truth does not need such protection but lies cannot thrive without it.
You're right; truth needs no protection. But to believe the truth, you still need faith.
You're saying that one person dying for what they believe does not necessarily prove their belief to be true, and you're right. I'm saying that a value or faith that's been pressed extremely hard over thousands of years and has consequently become stronger cannot be false. The endurance of the Jews and the church is proof that God is Truth.
Don't think that reminding me of something I don't agree with reminds me that I agree with it. I am not that stupid.
Truth does not need faith. At all. But religion needs faith. Mathematics doesn't need faith, geography doesn't need faith, economics doesn't need faith, physics doesn't need faith. Only irrational beliefs in invisible beings need faith. Can you think of a reason why that might be? I bet you can if you think about with an open mind, that is one which is not crippled by faith.
Putting your trust in the truth still requires faith. Scientific exploration cannot occur without faith. When driving at night, do you only go 500 feet or as far as your headlights illuminate and then stop? Of course not, because you have faith that by the time you reach the end of that 500 feet the next 500 will be illuminated. You have more faith than you give yourself credit for. Faith is not weakness, but strength. Stop being such a...grown up!
There is a world of difference between religious faith and the types of working assumptions which enable us to get on with our lives. I assume that when I leave for work later the roads I drove down yesterday will still be there, that is a working assumption not an absolute faith. If evidence suggests that the bridge has been washed away I will find another route. I keep my eyes open for evidence which contradicts my working assumptions.
You had faith in your parents as a child, did you not? Do you have no faith in their wisdom now? God is a Father, and I am His child. I trust Him. I have no reason not to trust Him.
Have you ever had surgery? If so, you entrusted your life to your surgeons and nurses. That's an act of faith. Me, I trust my life to God, who gave the surgeons their hands and their minds.
My faith leads to religion--that is, care for widows and orphans. That's bad?
As I have grown older my faith and trust in my parents has diminished and my confidence in them and respect for them has increased. There is no connection between trust in somebody you have met and trust in an imaginary god.
Giving God the credit for the skills of surgeons is disgusting ingratitude.
Do you really regularly look for evidence of the non-existence of God? If so, in what way and how does it make you feel?
I thank God that in spite of all Satan tries to do to destroy the Jews, they are still God's people, and He still restores them. I thank God for the Messiah He sent through the Jews. I thank God for His glorious power and ability to take any situation, no matter how bad, and bring something beautiful out of it. And don't tell me that doesn't happen; these replies are too short to list all the names and testimonies I could give you.
That's handy isn't it? You can claim credit on behalf of your god for anything you like and distance him from anything that you don't like.
God can find glory in anything, or distance himself from anything either, even the religious antics of his chosen people. If it's bad it is down to the sins of men or Satan, if it's good it is down to the grace of God. Unprovable claims have no value and what can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof.
God is either all good or all evil, since good and evil are as opposite one another as heat and cold, light and darkness. They are mutually exclusive. That's why God can be credited with having a direct hand in producing the one, but cannot be blamed for the other. If God is good, then apart from Him there is only evil. Yet He can take evil and bring good out of it, just as He took darkness and brought light out of it. But when He does, what was there before will not remain.
God must be either all good or all evil? Says who? That is a naked assertion with no logical support or factual evidence and I can dismiss it as casually as you have asserted it. You are just playing with words, and you're not playing very well.
I agree with MartinJWillett. God is all good and no evil. He allowed free will into the world because without it (and without sin) God could not display His mercy. God knew Adam and Eve were going to sin, but did He hesitate to create people? No, because God knew Jesus Christ was the manifestation of His mercy and love toward a fallen race. Without free will we could not chose to love God, either. God doesn't want us to be obedient robots, He wants children that love Him and obey Him.
this isnt about war or killig people or even dying. this clip shows some of the people who mearly said yes to God. Who said yes and belived, who said yes knowing they where going to died. this clip is about saying yes to god and beliving with un yelding faith even in the face of death or what ever else tests you

2000 years ago, Jesus was crucified by the Jews, for threatening their religious and economic system.
2000 years later, the Christians and the Jews have joined forces to crucify and punish Muslims for threatening the current religious and economic systems....breeding a whole new generation of future martyrs of all faiths for the next 2000 years...
The people of the world deserve a break from this madness.....
Unfortunately it's going to get worse before said break comes in the form of Christ's return and the Millennial Reign. There's a whole 70th week of Daniel to get through yet.
And for the record, it's Muslims killing Christians in the world today, not the other way around. Read about what recently happened in Nigeria.
There is religious based killing on all sides...always has been that way, and probably always will be.
I cannot count the number of young people I have seen sign up in the military for reasons of "God and Country". So what does God have to do with the current military campaign?
The Muslims see the U.S. military and Israel as one and the same entity.
And when you see who funds and backs the RNC its hard to say that they are wrong....(Heritage foundation etc,AEI)
Jesus, yielded up the ghost behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying Truly this was the Son of God.
I thank them and honor them if wasnt for God using these man to share his word and stand their ground I wouldnt be able to practice my freedom of reading the bible and to proclaim my christianity.........they have found their reward in christ........may they be exalted by Gods side for their....love and faith..love you alll thank you.............thank you
yeah, there are videos called modern persecution or modern martyrs. I just watched one several minutes ago. So true what you said, but I know I am not prepared. What if I become so scared I will deny Him? For me, that is the scaries part..
@Shadandthe4th" MORE MODERN?" There ARE MANY billions of innocent people MURDERED by the US military Industrial complex, war for corporate profit, occupation, control, pillage, and plunder, for centuries, recently, etc....& EVERYDAY! The war on terror IS A LIE! WAR IS A RACKET! look that up! AND IS THE HAND OF satan in our governance! THE CLEANSING IS NIGH!
the saddest video I have ever seen...the suffering they went through is way beyong our imagination..i mean, we are in our homes, warm and confortable watching a video about their death...we cannot really understand it.
I agree! I've studied what it was like when many of those men were burned at the stake. I have never been the same since then. I'm a coward compared to those men.
These stories are not meant to merely elicit sympathy from those who hear them; they are meant to encourage and inspire. Hebrews 12:1 calls the martyrs a "great cloud of witnesses," cheering us on as we "run with endurance the race set before us." If God gave them the strength to stand for Him, He will surely do the same for you.
Is the music from Braveheart? It's so beautiful!

MartinJWillett 2 years ago
So God's name, revealed in Exodus, means nothing? God is. Not was. He did not tell Moses, "I was the God of your ancestors." He told him, "I AM the God of your ancestors."
If Jesus was wrong in anything He said about the Father, you'll have to submit evidence of this.
In light of God's promise to Abraham, what else would be the purpose of the sacrifice, if not a precursor to mankind's restoration to eternal life?
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
Wake up!
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
OK, we're using entirely different terms. I'm referring to ETERNAL life and the resurrection. You're referring to life after death. There's a difference. Eternal survival is something we already possess as our souls are immortal. Eternal life is the restoration of our souls to God. The resurrection is the physical raising of our bodies from the dead. God calling Himself the God of the living--in Exodus--is proof of both concepts. We on the same page now?
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
So what is the purpose of eternal life? It had better be a big one if it will sustain you for ever. What will you invest your first billion years of eternity in trying to achieve? Telling somebody what he knew all along huh? Thought so. That must give you immense satisfaction.
You have been sold a bunch of lies, and you are trying to get other people to believe in them too so you feel less of a dupe. And it isn't working. Is it?
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
"What will you invest your first billion years of eternity in trying to achieve?"
Getting to know God. Suppose it takes one year to learn everything there is to know about an individual. There have been at least 12 billion people who have been born on this planet throughout history, each possessing part of God's personality. So it should take me no less than 12 billion years to get to know God completely.
Why? What were your plans?
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
I have no plans for an impossible existence. I understand what I am. When I was young I had a small brain and small, sensational experiences. Then I grew bigger and my mind grew bigger. Never have I been awake while my brain has been asleep, well while my brain was sick or sober while my brain was drunk. My conclusion: I am my brain. From the same experiences you conclude you are an immortal soul temporarily housed in a body you think shameful. Why? The ancient Hebrews didn't think that.
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
You're really bad at reading people, aren't you? You assume that I hate my life because of my body. You assume that the ancient Hebrews were materialistic. You're wrong on both counts. If Abraham was a materialist, he never would have followed God. And he certainly wouldn't have been willing to give up Isaac.
I'm not ashamed of the frailness of my body. I simply place more value on my soul--that is, my mind, will, and emotions--and my spirit, because my body is so temporary.
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
I haven't thought about you at all. Stop flattering yourself that this is personal.
I know the ancient Hebrews believed that life ended with death, I've read their pitifully few books. Why would life have to be eternal in order to worship a god? If something (a life blessed by a god) is worth having it is worth having however much of it is available to be had. People keep pets knowing they are likely to outlive them, permanence is not necessary.
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
But are you willing to give your life for what you believe to be the truth? Does your faith have that kind of endurance? Truth withstands the test of suffering.
Christians have not inflicted more suffering than they have endured. There were more Christian martyrs in the 20th century than in the 19 before it put together. Even during the time of the Crusades, the number of deaths inflicted by "Christians" pales in comparison to the number of Christian martyrs today.
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
I don't believe in magic, I don't believe in sacrifices to placate gods or fate. I have no built-in tendency to aspire to martyrdom. I also don't believe that truth is measured by resistance to torture, if it was then Protestantism and Catholicism would both be true because each sect bunt the others who died willingly as fools. Martyrdom is ridiculous superstitious thinking. I would be prepared to die for my beliefs but I would not expect that would prove that any such beliefs were true!
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
But if something is true, you expect that truth to hold up in spite of extreme pressure, constant testing, and the most violent opposition, do you not? The word of God is the only thing in the world to have held up under every test. Thus you can't merely discard it as fairy tales. There has to be something more to it that makes people react to it the way they do. Have you never wondered why we are willing to suffer; willing to forgive and love our enemies?
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
Ah, resistance to torture reveals people are telling the truth does it? How? In what way does being right make a person supernaturally brave? Buddhist monks set fire to themselves - are they right? No. Just wrong but brave. Truth and bravery are not connected. Bravery may be connected with sincerity, to a degree, but sincerity does not require verity. People can be sincerely wrong.
People have been martyred for lots of contradictory "truths", and you know it.
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
What fool will die for what he knows to be a lie? And if something is a lie, it will not endure over time, especially when it's subjected to trials and torture. Truth is like a lump of coal; you put enough pressure and heat on it, it will only become harder, purer, and more valuable. Unlike a lie, truth cannot be destroyed.
If what I believe is a lie, then why were Christians not wiped out long ago when they dared to love their enemies--which, logistically, is foolishness?
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
How many men died believing Hirohito was a god? Martyrdom requires sincere belief, not belief in truth.
The human body is not equipped with any organ capable of detecting truth directly. Hearts pump blood. Brains think and feel. Open your eyes and look around you! People believe different things and are willing to kill and die for different things, this willingness says NOTHING about whether what they believe in is actually true.
19 hijackers believed they were doing Allah's will. So?
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
You're still thinking short term. 19 hijackers left a terrible legacy that is all of eight years old and was counterproductive to their goal to Islamize the world. Get away from the here and now and think about history and the future.
Lies cannot last forever.
Truth is timeless. Truth is enduring. Truth is a diamond.
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
Geez, you are a cynic. Marsh wiggles. Oy.
Diamonds, remember?
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
Don't think that reminding me of something I don't agree with reminds me that I agree with it. I am not that stupid.
Truth does not need faith. At all. But religion needs faith. Mathematics doesn't need faith, geography doesn't need faith, economics doesn't need faith, physics doesn't need faith. Only irrational beliefs in invisible beings need faith. Can you think of a reason why that might be? I bet you can if you think about with an open mind, that is one which is not crippled by faith.
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
Putting your trust in the truth still requires faith. Scientific exploration cannot occur without faith. When driving at night, do you only go 500 feet or as far as your headlights illuminate and then stop? Of course not, because you have faith that by the time you reach the end of that 500 feet the next 500 will be illuminated. You have more faith than you give yourself credit for. Faith is not weakness, but strength. Stop being such a...grown up!
I've never met anyone as cynical as you.
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
You use headlights? Ye of little faith!
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
So do I, and with God I haven't found any.
That's bad?
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
"Eighty-six years I have served Christ, and He never did me any wrong. How can I blaspheme my Lord who saved me?" -Polycarp
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
As I have grown older my faith and trust in my parents has diminished and my confidence in them and respect for them has increased. There is no connection between trust in somebody you have met and trust in an imaginary god.
Giving God the credit for the skills of surgeons is disgusting ingratitude.
Do you really regularly look for evidence of the non-existence of God? If so, in what way and how does it make you feel?
Believing untruths is bad.
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
Confidence without faith? Respect without trust? You might as well say the sun shines without light.
And why shouldn't I credit God for the physicians' skills? They do it.
Do you regularly deny evidence that is practically screaming at you that God does exist? Romans 1:18-20. Koro. Y'wa. Viracocha. Need I go on?
Denying self-evident truths is bad.
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
Or light shines without the sun?
If you credit the physician's skill to God thank him for my atheism too and for Hitler's hatred of Jews and for the rapist's libido.
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
Your atheism is your fault, not God's.
AtarahDerek 2 years ago 2
That's handy isn't it? You can claim credit on behalf of your god for anything you like and distance him from anything that you don't like.
God can find glory in anything, or distance himself from anything either, even the religious antics of his chosen people. If it's bad it is down to the sins of men or Satan, if it's good it is down to the grace of God. Unprovable claims have no value and what can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof.
I don't believe a word of it.
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
God is either all good or all evil, since good and evil are as opposite one another as heat and cold, light and darkness. They are mutually exclusive. That's why God can be credited with having a direct hand in producing the one, but cannot be blamed for the other. If God is good, then apart from Him there is only evil. Yet He can take evil and bring good out of it, just as He took darkness and brought light out of it. But when He does, what was there before will not remain.
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
God must be either all good or all evil? Says who? That is a naked assertion with no logical support or factual evidence and I can dismiss it as casually as you have asserted it. You are just playing with words, and you're not playing very well.
MartinJWillett 2 years ago
I agree with MartinJWillett. God is all good and no evil. He allowed free will into the world because without it (and without sin) God could not display His mercy. God knew Adam and Eve were going to sin, but did He hesitate to create people? No, because God knew Jesus Christ was the manifestation of His mercy and love toward a fallen race. Without free will we could not chose to love God, either. God doesn't want us to be obedient robots, He wants children that love Him and obey Him.

OperationTailGunner 2 years ago
Unfortunately it's going to get worse before said break comes in the form of Christ's return and the Millennial Reign. There's a whole 70th week of Daniel to get through yet.
And for the record, it's Muslims killing Christians in the world today, not the other way around. Read about what recently happened in Nigeria.
AtarahDerek 2 years ago
There is religious based killing on all sides...always has been that way, and probably always will be.
I cannot count the number of young people I have seen sign up in the military for reasons of "God and Country". So what does God have to do with the current military campaign?
The Muslims see the U.S. military and Israel as one and the same entity.
And when you see who funds and backs the RNC its hard to say that they are wrong....(Heritage foundation etc,AEI)
Blessed are the peacemakers

Jesus, yielded up the ghost behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying Truly this was the Son of God.

the saddest video I have ever seen...the suffering they went through is way beyong our imagination..i mean, we are in our homes, warm and confortable watching a video about their death...we cannot really understand it.

I agree! I've studied what it was like when many of those men were burned at the stake. I have never been the same since then. I'm a coward compared to those men.
theocratickingdom30 3 years ago
These stories are not meant to merely elicit sympathy from those who hear them; they are meant to encourage and inspire. Hebrews 12:1 calls the martyrs a "great cloud of witnesses," cheering us on as we "run with endurance the race set before us." If God gave them the strength to stand for Him, He will surely do the same for you.
