just an update on my staffie bitch having her pups...she had 6 healthy pups unfortunatley one died due to mom biting her stomach day later...she had a brindle, 2 brindle and white , one white and black, and two blue pups. they are 7 weeks old now and running riots..loads of fun ..lol...unfortunately when the pup died mum got stressed and stoppped producing milk and we had to hand feed but 5 lovely pups ...thanks for all the info on your video ...:)

@paulinesmith44 7 weeks old already haha. Bet they're a handfull. shame about loosing one, it happends though. Youll have to upload a vid of them. Ive got to be carfull and have headfones on if anyone watches my vids because she hears the sound of the pups and freeks out. my girl is pregnant for 1st time and i'm terrified any tips about what to do during labour ? how long normally between each pup ? how do you know when she's finished ? would be grateful for any feedback

@paulinesmith44 If you watch my video (Molly a few hours before giving birth. .wmv ) you'll get an idea what your bitch will behave like when shes due to have them. I was really unsure about it all and worried myself. The best thing you can do is keep reasuring her by keping her near you. I had her den ready for the pups at the side of my bed. I had everything ready so your not rushing around in a panic. You need a seprate little den for the pups to place them in for safety.

@jayhelldee you should see all this in the video. Just something warm for them to cuddle in while you pay attention to the other births. I was expecting the births to be alot of hard work and it wasnt. She seemed to deal with it very easy and her instinct took care of everything. Id actualy fell asleep with her in her den for the first pup. luckily my daughter just came in the room after the first pup was born and woke me up. The pup was already cleaned and cord bitten away.

@jayhelldee after the first birth it was around 10 minuits for the next. Let her do her thing, try not to interfere unless it looks like somthing is wrong. She should break the sac open and lick the pup and clean it,then she will cut the cord. Once you're satisfied the pup is breathing and cleaned, let her spend her time with it until the next is ready. Then place the pup in the second den with warm bedding. keep talking to your bitch and stroking her. let her know shes doing good.

@jayhelldee I think if theres any problems with a pup that dosnt want to come out. She may behave like she needs to wee or poo but nothing comes out. She will more than likely do this when taken for a quick walk. But dont take my word as gosppel, im not an expert.. Once shes finished the births. place all the pups with her and let her do her thing. The only thing you need to watch for is pups riddling around the back of her when she exausted because she wont wake up and can suffocate them

@jayhelldee Another problem you come across with staff pups is they ravage the mums nipples has they get older. bath her nipple and chest with warm wet towels, keep them clean, more so if they get torn up by the pups claws. we used warm wet towels to ease them and lightly coat them in vaseline. Keep an eye on the pups claws, because they get sharp and sctratch the nipple/chest up pretty bad. Mollys got so bad,we had to ween the pups on to goats milk pretty quick

@Roberts7814 its hard work mate.looking after the mother is a job on its own. What was the best part was seeing all the diffrent characters of the pups as the weeks wenty by. The den was at the side of my bed and when i jumped in bed, theyd all line up in the dark with their paws on the fence stood up on their back legs in a perfect line looking at me. Id pat them all on the head and theyd all snuggle back up to each other and go to sleep. That was at 4 weeks old.

@adyhay1. Just try and spend as much time as possible with her and reasure her. The only problem we had was she didnt have enough energy for the 8th pup that broke its sack and died. I thought she was acting strange when she was going to pee putside too,she was running to diffrent spots and i thought she was just uncomfy urinating just after giving birth,but thinking back,she must have been trying to push it out.We used a suitcase with old clothes in for a welping basket.

@adyhay1 By the time shes finished cleaning the new born the next will be on its way,just put the newly cleaned pup in the basket out the way. I boxed a small section of my bedroom off with planks of wood for molly and the pups den. Dont be tempted to throw lots of warm bedding like old jumpers ect. The pups end up getting lost under the bedding and can easily be stood on by mistake. The first 2 days are critical and puppies can easily die accidently by been crushed and sufocated by the mum.

@adyhay1 Also keep an eye on the pups nails. The mum can get seriously sore to the point she wont be able to stand the pain of feeding time. The pups start to kneed around the teeet and it starts to slash deep scrath marks into the skin,combine this when their teeth come through and getting the pups fed becomes difficult. Even after cutting the pups nails,molly became so sore and scratched up,i had to lay her on her back and put warm waterd towels over her cheast to sooth them.

@adyhay1 Then id rub vaseline over the scrathes and sore bits.Stop infection ect. In the end we had to start weening them onto goats milk because they wernt getting enough from molly. by 4 weeks they wee weened onto puppy food mushed up half a cup of warm kettle water to half a cup of puppy food mushed up. Its best to have the pups in a room where your main dog isnt going to need to enter. Youll find your bitch will be uncomfy and agresive towards the male,not wanting him anywhere near the pups.

Oh i think i missed her going. I was walking the dogs. I used to sleep right next to them all on a night and all 7 of them would pop there heads over the barrier and sit watching me. Id pat them all on the head and theyd all jump back into bed. She should settle down. I used to give them a drink of goats milk rarther late sometimes. If shes crying too much,you could try just giving her a little. Pictures would be awesome. thnx for posting.
