@candiceevans1 This country is not built on biblical principles, Christianity was used to pull the Israelite's away from their God (The God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob) and have them serve their gods and sun deities; like Jesus and Jehovah. David Barton's website features an article by Stephen McDowell that appears to sanction "Biblical slavery."

@bruceewilson - No Stephen McDowell does not sanction slavery - I have read material by him that negates that idea completely. He merely explains what types of slavery in biblical times was allowed and sanctioned by God for a further understanding of the history of slavery.

@isusdolazi - He does indeed. McDowell has since 2003 had an article on David Barton's Wallbuilders web site which outlines McDowell's position on slavery (permissible, if its Biblical slavery). McDowell's article cites six times R.J. Rushdoony's Institutes of Biblical Law, which allows for Biblical slavery. I doth quote Stephen McDowell: "The Biblical slave laws reflect God's redemptive desire, for men and nations."

@bruceewilson - Well, on that note, yes - Biblical slave law do reflect God's redemption, especially in looking at the 50th year when all slaves were set free. Also, the Bible commanded masters to not treat their slaves harshly, to be fair to them, provide for them adequately, and allow them into the covenant. That said, slavery in that day was not like slavery was practiced in America, England, and many other European countries during those years. (more...)

@bruceewilson - Israelites did not go to other countries and willy-nilly capture slaves and use them for slave labor as we did in the South. There were strict laws of conduct surrounding slaves (which were more like servants - that are still practiced in some developed countries, by the way). There is a wide chasm of difference between biblical slavery and the slavery practiced against African Americans.
