Dylan came back in '98 I believe, dealt with the death of his wife Toni, fought his drug problem again, tried several times with Kelly with little success, had a stormy relationship with Gina, and in the series finale ended up with Kelly after he promised that this was it, they would always be together. When asked if Shannen would come back for the series finale, I believe it was Aaron Spelling who said that they were done with her character.

I agree with you completely. Anyone seeing the beginning episodes with Brenda and Dylan would have to agree that they were the ones meant to be. Kelly and Dylan just seemed miserable together, but with Brenda and Dylan you could see the love.
