I saw (part of) the Calgary, Canada show on this tour when I was 15. The Descendents were my favourite band but I was grounded which meant I couldn't go to the gig. I was devastated!! My parents, to their credit finally let me go, but with a time limit: my dad marched in shortly after midnight (after watching a couple of songs himself) to drag me home. I still have the gig poster and t-shirt somewhere, but some asshole stole my bonus cup years ago. xo

I saw this tour 2x. Milo Aukerman smelled so bad that I noticed, and I was skating the whole day.

They took pride in that, and they put on great shows every day. Sometimes twice a day.

(An underage and an of-age show). The gave out coffee beans to keep the crowd going. The best punk band for so long, in my opinion.

And really decent people. That's all you can ask. Legally.

The Ramones sang about girls. A lot of the earlier punk bands had a lot of melody. I don't think you should ever compare Blink and New Found Glory to The Descendents. Descendents were a lot better than either of those bands.

Anyone who likes bands like Blink 182 or New Found Glory has to listen to The Descendents. If it weren't for Milo and company, many of those bands probably wouldn't exist. Descendents were one of the first punk bands to add a lot of melody and sing about chicks instead of politics and society.

Ten years later my roommates went to see them and it was an entirely different story. Completely sold out show at a venue five times the size of the Brewery.

Blink 182 made the music they wanted to make. Millions happen to love it. Good for them. Dissing them for that reason doesn't make you a "legit" punk fan. Punk was really a category for anything that was new and different and didn't fit existing music categories. Goth, New Wave, Ska or "Skater" music among others were all considered "punk" at one point because nobody knew what to call them. No need to slam bands because they don't fit in your self determined categories.
