Third continuation...possible improvements to the run/experience...1. countdown/distance markers or posts along the way indicating how much further to go to the end. 2. two or three proper stopping points to enable getting out of the canoe to take a 'rest'. 3. Site shop to remain open longer to enable to purchase souvenirs etc...we got back on time, the shop was closed, hence no commemorative purchase...
To continue again...we went along at a nice slow pace, trying to take in the sights and looking out for the Florida wildlife. If you have experience in a canoe then this will be completely easy for you to complete...if, like us, you are canoe virgins, then you may well end up with a number of scratches and possibly a couple of bruises as well! At the time this leaves you wondering whether or not you should have embarked on this expedition...YES, you should! IT IS A LIFE EXPERIENCE!!!
To continue from my last post...We enjoyed the trip...it was a great experience...one that we are glad we have done. Along the way we saw loads of turtles and fish, but little else. It's a great thing to do but it does have it's faults...on the plus side: scenic, peacefull, back to nature. Things could be made better though. Any food/candies/drinks need to be taken out of their original packaging before setting off. Understandable...but what a pain...each individual candy!!!
Hi all, did this run just around 2 weeks ago. Did it with my 10yr old daughter...only our 2nd time in a canoe. It took us 4 3/4 hours from put-in to take-out, with no rest stops. It was described to us as moderately difficult and challenging....to be honest it is not that bad...the current takes you along at a nice slow pace, enought to complete the run in good time. The only 'hard' work for novices is steering and negotiating the bends and some of the overhanging trees and vegetation.
Thaks ODIECOLODIE...super quick reply! Was planning on around 5-6 hours or so...thanks for the advice as to placing myself at the rear of the craft...that's also what I had in mind. Thankyou once again for your enjoyable video clip...looking forward to the trip even more now...regards, Ian.
Hi there ODIECOLODIE...love the video footage. You look experienced at this, so a couple of questions, please...I'm a total beginner...dad with a 10yr old daughter...both really, really looking forward to this. How long from put-in to bridge 19 take-out? (your time...I'll adjust accordingly). Easier to put daughter at front or back ? (I'll no doubt be doing most of the 'steering').
Thankyou for such a lovely video clip...I can see you really enjoyed it...I hope we do too...
@gvmdaddy I took 4 hours to do it. I would suggest you leave at least 6 hours to allow for some stops such as lunch, pee and perhaps a recovery from going over.... many people do.
You should be in the back steering a canoe with the paddle or a double kayak with the rudder.
