I'm 15 I bought my Beatles Stereo Remasters, Beatles Rockband, Beatles Mono remasters, John Lennon Inspired by casino, and I have a Beatles Haircut hah.... I feel bad for most people my age though listening to the crap people call music nowadays.
The albums came out on CD in '87, and at the time digital technology was still in it's infancy... which is the industry's way of saying that it SUCKED!!! XD
I need your help. The beatles box I bought online is from the UK and has a lousy packaging job. Is the music on the CD's or has been recorded the same way as the US versions?. Can you give me any info about bootleg or counterfit CD's?. I think that's what you call them.
The Rubber Soul and Help! remasters are actually the same 16-bit PCMs from George Martin's '87 remixes, with additional 24 bit EQ.
Listen to the The Word in the original stereo mixes (in the mono box) - and compare to the remastered '87 mix - the orig. stereo mix sounds that much better. (The rest of the CDs sound awesome).
I NEVER COULD UNDERSTAND why they used the AMERICAN version of the "Rubber Soul" cover for the BRITISH CD! The only difference is the color of the title in the left hand corner. I remember when The Beatles came out on CD back in 1987, I was only 10 and didn't even know how they worked. But I did buy cassettes back then and was confused when record stores were stocking both the U.S. and the U.K. versions on cassette. The cassette version used the original British color to further confuse!
I flipped back between the two parts with the song playing. 2:25 and 5:25. It does sound a lot clearer. The presentation is impressive too on the disc and on the album. They actually improved on the original, which doesn't always happen on reissues.
It's amazing the power of the Beatles, I'm not a fan, but buy your vinyl, and I have purchased tapes of the time also my friend John is the greatest collector of the Beatles in my city, Córdoba. Greetings from Argentina!
Your video came up as recommended for me...glad I checked it out..Your reaction to new disc was priceless as was the speed with which you tossed the old CD aside..I'll bet we could have a few beers and get along quite well...
I love watching this John, over and over again. Your reaction was the same as mine. Except I had the extra anticipation of looking out of my window and waiting for the UPS driver to show up. As soon as he did I ran out and didn't even wait for him to come to my door. Ordered both MONO and STEREO. It was Christmas in September.
@floydpink2222 While the Remasters sound superior (mostly louder) I have a Direct Metal Master copy of Rubber Soul on vinyl that blows it away. I got back into vinyl after hearing The White Album remaster and reading the German DMM version was still superior. And after some investment in gear I have to agree. What I REALLY want to hear is remixes. They did it to Yellow Submarine Songtrack and THAT is a huge improvement.
Hey I wa reading the Booklets´s Beatles Remasteres and i found they said "This albub has beeb created from the original stereo or analogue master tapes" but also says from a mono disc.
Do you know what they mean when thy said "mono disc???
I use to hate The Beatles, just like all teens who never listened to them before, you know thinking, "oh they are just hippie stoner music." One day though my friend got the game Beatles Rock Band, I played it at his house, and fell in love with the GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME. I got all the music now, got a Abby Road Poster on my wall. I got the game Beatles Rock Band. I have Been a Beatard for almost a year now. I am now 19. So Glad I finally heard them. Also I love your reviews on the stuff.
I don't think you understand how the remasters work... The original CDs were essentially what was found on the vinyl albums in CD form. The quality was not as good as vinyl, but good enough, and in some ways better than most CDs today (pre loudness wars).
The remasters are the original SONGS remastered to sound better than they ever have - better than the original vinyl. These songs are literally better sounding than they ever have been!
i am also a fellow '' Beatard''. My friends from school understand my love for the Beatles, but they keep driving it a little too far. Anyway, I also live in Brooklyn!
Hey John, I'm a huge fan for your Beatles remasters reviews.I've already have most of the stereo remasters WITHOUT buying the box set . Enjoy your Beatles remasters and peace and love.
Never could see any OTHER way, Never could see any OTHER way, Never could see any OTHER way, Never could see any OTHER way, Never could see any OTHER way (Rinse and repeat for the inner groove effect).
please please please please make a review of Magical Mystery Tour because I have been trying to see a B.S. review of Magical Mystery Tour they are all horrible so please make a review of Magical Mystery Tour big fan thanks in advice wish you the best
The "Get on the market before Pepper" color of Rubber Soul is actually the color of the original Capitol LP. Some of the covers had a near brown and some a gold color Rubber Soul text when it came out in America.
I will keep the original CDs filed away in a box for sentimental reasons... and thats all. Since 09/09/09 I am still obsessing over the stereo remasters and the monos. Please do Sgt Pepper's and if you can try and point out how Lucy fades out early on the 87 edition, creating a 2 second gap, and the correct fade (which matches the vinyl stereo), is now on the 09 remaster. My biggest annoyance of the 87 CDs.
Personally, I like vinyl way better than cds, but i'm really excited to get the new remasters. I already have Revolver and Rubber Soul, and i'm planning on getting the mono box set. Great video, by the way! And it's a shame Abbey Road isn't included in the mono box set.
I own all 12 studio albums (1987) editions: I've bought (2009) Sgt. Pepper's, Revolver, White Album, Past Masters, and Beatles For Sale....Abbey Road is next on my list........I plan to sell my 1987 bundle. How much do you think I could get for ALL 12 and where on earth could I sell them??? Thanks for the help
people honestly stick with the capitol albums vol 1 or 2 box sets or the mfsl vinyl you want the true stereo not an off balance surround. look at how bob ludwig did the rolling stones dsds thats how these should have been done. or even how ted jensen did the the capitol albums box sets. whoever is with me on this please. speak out. i mean the artwork in this set and the mini lp's look like nice collectibles as far as mastering they could have done better.
@John, replying to the comment below me, I sure glad I made the investment. Like RubberSoulGirl1, I'm buying them individually, and so far I have Abbey Road (Which I LOVE) and I'm getting another one for Christmas as a present. I can't wait.
I'm 90% sure I'm gettin the box set for Xmas and if I don't I'm going out and buying it lol.. I'm gonna be so paranoid bout scratches or any kind of damage I won't want to touch them.. They're so perfect I'd die if any of them got damaged and we all now how fragile CDs can be
UPDATE: While at my grandma's getting my Elvis DVDs out of storage i caught a glimpse of my Xmas present...it was the remasters, stereo edition.................................eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i want the original songs in cd not new mixes,i want the original sound,do i have it?for example i have a beatles collection cd that has some songs ,those songs would sound the same or not?
They aren't different in any way except they are clearer and you can hear the instruments individually better and all the pops and snaps of the old records are fixed
thanks for the reply i already buied the remaster and i will open it for the new year.I saw the mono box but i didnt buy it because the remaster was cheaper(strange he?) and i didnt have enough money because i wanted to buy also for christmas milk and honey by john lennon and one other but i will buy it quiete soon
I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed It.
great video, luv the way it sounds like your talking to someone across the table x great reactions to the remastered version, very funny, cant wait to get my copies it just sux i dont have the cash at the mo !!!
The mini documentaries was rather upsetting mate!!!!!!! For any beat-ard, you'll know that all the audio form the mini-documentaries is recycled material from the anthology DVD's... super lame!!!! The CD's on the other hand are pretty damn amazing. I prefer certain albums on mono though, such as pepper and revolver for example.
I gt please please me a couple a weeks later then i got rubber soul the following week then the magical mystery tour the next day then yesterday i got sgt pepper
Oh~~ I got it also on 09 09 09 in Hong Kong, why do I didn't got the big photo?? I also got the completed '87 CD and this one, really improved in Vocal and bass, I 'm the 1/100 person got that on that day, cos Hong Kong just 100 boxset quota obtained.
Dude you are awesome, finally an entertaining review. Have you checked the mono versions? I just placed my order a week ago, I hear they sound even twice as good as the stereo.
Although I agree with you about the sound of the remasters being 10 times better, I am finding that the highs can be a little too bright.. For example, Rubber Soul has a lot of tambourine on it, and I am finding that I need to turn the treble knob down a bit on my stereo so those high sounds aren't so sharp and irritating. I don't have a separate equalizer with my stereo though. Would that help? What do you think? Love your enthusiastic reviews. Keep 'em comin'.
Some good comments, but could have been made in half the time. When A/B-ing something it should be done one right after the other. Nevertheless, these are the best versions of the Beatles catalogue to date. You can't go wrong.
Completely agree,I can't listen to it. I'd rather stick with the originals.
The new ones are louder-so fucking what! the seperation is awful and whoever eqd them needs shooting. Money grabbing cunts,no empathy to the songs at all!
Sorry mate you are talking kak. The 2009 Remasters KILL my previous CD copies & Vinyl as well . And yes my turntable cuts it. To anyone else reading this & as long as your stereo is good enough as the man said GO OUT & GET THEM
Since they were working from stereo master tapes they were unable to EQ the instruments without also doing the same to the vocals. Even with "modern technology" one cannot change the tonal characteristics of instruments on a tape without also changing the character of everything else on the tape.
By boosting instrument frequencies they destroyed the midrange and caused the sibilance problems I speak of. I'm sure the engineers did what they could to avoid it...it's just impossible to do so.
I bought the White Album this week & I encountered no such sibilance problems. It sounded better rthan my lp & previous cd It must be yr stereo system. What do you use?
The Remasters do sound better i just bought a copy of Revolver man that sounds clear and the documentries and photos really boost the awesomeness of it instead of like you said plain 1987 the cds are crisper like the records thats the way it should be
I got the stereo cds and most of the trax are now ruined by ridiculous o.t.t drums that are far too intrusive to the song. Eq'd to shit! You can't apply todays techniques to 40 year old 4-track recordings.Any subtle sounds are now way too loud! this is not how the band heard them 40 odd years ago-they weren't even involved in the stereo mixes! Lennon and harrison are both on record as saying that they were awful mixes. The mono cds sound far better but cost a fortune
I did not have this problem on my stereo & I compared my 2009 copy of revolver to my 1970's vinyl & 1980's cd copy. New CD is best. Could be your amp? If it is not powerful enough so will sound peaky on transients
Amp is fine. I love The Beatles and been listening for years to their music,I know it backwards and these mixes are (imo) seriously detrimental to the songs. I've seen numerous posts about how poor the SGt Pepper remasters sounds too for exampleThe drums are overbearing, not enough empathy and love for the songs. The remastered mono sound far far better but are £200! any error is highlighted and delicate touches far to up front. If you take all the hiss etc off you lose so many other elements
Once again, didn't the sound engineers specifically said they employed minimal (not more than 5 minutes of the over 500 minutes of the catalogue) noise reduction?
Guess you should just e-bay your box set then if you find it so objectionable. I ordered my mono box set and am eagerly awaiting its arrival...
Er... very nice, but... it seems you've got your speaker wired up the wrong way! In Drive my car (at 2.40 in your video) the rhythm section should be at your LEFT side instead of your right, as it is now!
i was in a hotel in milwaukee, listening on a JVC "desktop" stereo (with movable speakers). not wired by me! served their purpose though. guess you're as big a beat-ard as i am!!
Your reaction to "Drive My Car" is one for the ages!!!!!!! I have not heard any of the remasters yet, but picked up "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Let It Be" late last evening. I will start blasting at full volume as soon as my roomie leaves the day for work. I am wondering if you are familiar with any of the (VERY, VERY GOOD INDEED) "Dr.Ebbet's" series of Beatles needledrops which come out of Rochester, NY, and if so, have you had an opportunity to compare them to any of the new re-masters.
"The Good Doctor" as he is often referred , put/puts EMI's 1987 work to total shame. If interested I could email you his extensive and dedicated list of offerings. He is all about vinyl sound, and noone does it better!! I would think that the two of you Beatle-tards would get along just great!
I'm 15 I bought my Beatles Stereo Remasters, Beatles Rockband, Beatles Mono remasters, John Lennon Inspired by casino, and I have a Beatles Haircut hah.... I feel bad for most people my age though listening to the crap people call music nowadays.

If you are a collector Mono is the way.
If you want their ENTIRE catalogue and are a casual Beatles fan then The sterero is for you.
I myself am a big Beatlemaniac yet i prefer the stereo edition's cause i want Abbey Road and Let It Be as well (not included in the mono editions.)

I really enjoyed this. Especially when we air-drummed to Ringo's fill at the exact same time lol. I can't wait to get these.

Dude you are awesome, finally an entertaining review. Have you checked the mono versions? I just placed my order a week ago, I hear they sound even twice as good as the stereo.
Rastafire589 2 years ago
Although I agree with you about the sound of the remasters being 10 times better, I am finding that the highs can be a little too bright.. For example, Rubber Soul has a lot of tambourine on it, and I am finding that I need to turn the treble knob down a bit on my stereo so those high sounds aren't so sharp and irritating. I don't have a separate equalizer with my stereo though. Would that help? What do you think? Love your enthusiastic reviews. Keep 'em comin'.

it also comes with a mini documentary for pc or mac,,,i bought a hard days night, box is not available yet, but i can't wait

man i wanna get that box so bad, but is sold out in my country...

Some good comments, but could have been made in half the time. When A/B-ing something it should be done one right after the other. Nevertheless, these are the best versions of the Beatles catalogue to date. You can't go wrong.

just bought the white album. Terrible. There are horrid sibilance problems throughout. 'Piggies' will blow your tweeters.
So much for the 'loving care' shown the material. The engineers must have been drunk. They should have started with the multitrack masters.
diezungen 2 years ago
Completely agree,I can't listen to it. I'd rather stick with the originals.
The new ones are louder-so fucking what! the seperation is awful and whoever eqd them needs shooting. Money grabbing cunts,no empathy to the songs at all!

Sorry mate you are talking kak. The 2009 Remasters KILL my previous CD copies & Vinyl as well . And yes my turntable cuts it. To anyone else reading this & as long as your stereo is good enough as the man said GO OUT & GET THEM

I thought the Abbey Road sound engineers said they specifically took great care to avoid sibilance in their stereo remasters???
DancingMalarky 2 years ago
Since they were working from stereo master tapes they were unable to EQ the instruments without also doing the same to the vocals. Even with "modern technology" one cannot change the tonal characteristics of instruments on a tape without also changing the character of everything else on the tape.
By boosting instrument frequencies they destroyed the midrange and caused the sibilance problems I speak of. I'm sure the engineers did what they could to avoid it...it's just impossible to do so.
diezungen 2 years ago

The mono cds sound far better but cost a fortune
thenowuk 2 years ago
I did not have this problem on my stereo & I compared my 2009 copy of revolver to my 1970's vinyl & 1980's cd copy. New CD is best. Could be your amp? If it is not powerful enough so will sound peaky on transients
kingofpunk1977 2 years ago
Amp is fine. I love The Beatles and been listening for years to their music,I know it backwards and these mixes are (imo) seriously detrimental to the songs. I've seen numerous posts about how poor the SGt Pepper remasters sounds too for exampleThe drums are overbearing, not enough empathy and love for the songs. The remastered mono sound far far better but are £200! any error is highlighted and delicate touches far to up front. If you take all the hiss etc off you lose so many other elements
thenowuk 2 years ago
Once again, didn't the sound engineers specifically said they employed minimal (not more than 5 minutes of the over 500 minutes of the catalogue) noise reduction?
Guess you should just e-bay your box set then if you find it so objectionable. I ordered my mono box set and am eagerly awaiting its arrival...
DancingMalarky 2 years ago
Er... very nice, but... it seems you've got your speaker wired up the wrong way! In Drive my car (at 2.40 in your video) the rhythm section should be at your LEFT side instead of your right, as it is now!
JvanE100 2 years ago
i was in a hotel in milwaukee, listening on a JVC "desktop" stereo (with movable speakers). not wired by me! served their purpose though. guess you're as big a beat-ard as i am!!
johnmontagnamusic 2 years ago
Your reaction to "Drive My Car" is one for the ages!!!!!!! I have not heard any of the remasters yet, but picked up "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Let It Be" late last evening. I will start blasting at full volume as soon as my roomie leaves the day for work. I am wondering if you are familiar with any of the (VERY, VERY GOOD INDEED) "Dr.Ebbet's" series of Beatles needledrops which come out of Rochester, NY, and if so, have you had an opportunity to compare them to any of the new re-masters.
hootenhtn 2 years ago
"The Good Doctor" as he is often referred , put/puts EMI's 1987 work to total shame. If interested I could email you his extensive and dedicated list of offerings. He is all about vinyl sound, and noone does it better!! I would think that the two of you Beatle-tards would get along just great!

Will check him out-does he have a webpage?
