LOL, anyone who thinks this is horse abuse is obviously not a horseperson, or hasn't been one for very long. Hydrotherapy like this for horses is very common, and very good for their helath.
Horses are almost like dogs in the way that all or most (I haven't found a horse yet that can't) can swim. I go swimming with my yearling in the river behind my house. He lifts his upper lip when he paddles around sometimes, makes him look adorable x)
my horse would be like "haha, you are so funny...wait r u serious?! OH HELL NO BITCH I AINT GOING IN THERE!! N-O. no.no.no.its not happening pull all you want im not going. ok well i think we're done here soo ima go back to my pasture when you return to sanity come give me a treat and i will think about forgiveing you."
its for a few seconds the horse didnt show that has any serious problem just a slight discomfort, but even if you touch them they do it in the beginning...
wow Im all about animal's rights but this is clearly something good for the horse. No abuse involved from what I can see. And Im a crazy animal right's person, but Im not retarded. Swimming is good for them, and for lots of animals, he wasn't being forced underwater or beat over the head, it was a quick swim then out he goes. Gawd people get over yourselves!
iGNORANT people are more than willing to flap their lips about something they know NOTHING about. Hey animal rights people - hows about you RESEARCH? I am pro-animal too but I HOLD MY FUCKING TONGUE if I am not EDUCATED ON THE SUBJECT.

this is so good for horses. iv seen people just put horses in their own pool and then they cant get out and thats not good but this is clearly designed for this so there is nothing wrong.
are you kidding me? this is not animal abuse! obviously the horse was swimming... plus there are two leads attached to the horse to keep him from drowning..I think horses like it..
Okay. For everyone who thinks that this is animal abuse you are WRONG! Swimming is VERY good for them. Depending on what kind of injury has occurred it can be a lifesaver. So before you go around saying things untrue please talk to an expert.
Its not abuse, my horse, abuses me, when he randomly decides to try to go in a pond and play in the water. Only way you could call this abuse would be if the horse did not like water and was fighting them on getting in, it obviously went in just fine and more then likely enjoyed it.
It's Equine Hydrotherapy, it's actually a fantastic way to maintain the fitness, and probably better on the horse than riding (i don't mean it in the sense that riding is bad). The joints and muscles aren't absorbing impact like they would on the ground, reducing things like splints and uses the majority of the muscles. Same for humans and animals...most people would probably prefer swimming for a few minutes than running on a hard ground. If introduced to it correctly, horses can find it nice
@lilfreakcaff That's what we use our pool here for. We have a small point-to-point & rehab yard- we cool ours that work outside off after their work in the pool, and we also have horses sent to us for rehabilitation with back issues, etc. that prevent them from receiving treatment/work they need from a rider... Works very well!
It isnt just therapy, for racehorses it is commonly used because it stretches the horses muscles out, and after a long workout this is used to cool down the horse. Like many of you are saying it's easy for the horse to get out of, well it is. Infact all the horse has to do is turn around.
@ThePrizedPossession it is also used for race horses for the simple reason it builds muscle up fast it can , as the horses hae a denser object to go through (water) some people dont realise that horses are natural swimers and once in water love it
yeah. seriously guys. havent you ever heard of the Chinquagatue (sp??)n pony swim? they hold it every year, idk where, but ik they have like HUNDREDS of ponies swimming from this one island to another12 ITS SOOO COOL! lol
I have one of these for my orse and he loves it and it has a treadmill so he can walk trot and canter adn it helps keep his muscule tone and sometimes ill even get on him when hes in the water!
wow!! amazing! I envy such facilities. all hoses should have a chance to swim from time to time. it id great fun and good for health, helping them develop muscles. lucky you to have such a pool:)
Pi**es me off when people comment saying something's cruel when they don't have a f*cking clue what the hell they're on about............it's a pool, not causing any pain, not exploitation, not stressing the horse etc. so just shut up and get your facts right before being negative about sh*it you know f*ck-all about....arseholes...
People shut up. really . It's not cruel . horses know how to swim. it's obviously made, the pool, for something like this. and HELLO the horse wouldent just "swim" it would thrash . there was a reason it was there. and they held the rope to lead him threw it, it's not like they were pulling like all heck.
it's obviously therapy! who has such a swimming pool? and the horse can get out really easy and all so no animal abuse, swimming is good for them! (depends on the water though)
@toontown1111 It's not to hold his head up, it's so he doesn't turn around or not move through the pool and just stays in one place, or if he panics because horses do. Security line, think kids.
i defo dont like animal cruelty . this is not animal cruelty . horses like to swim , not all of them but some do . also this may have been a theraputicle swim . often swimming loosens muscle etc so therefore is used after serious injury .
ok if that was a dog no one would have a problem throwing it in a pool. its a horse lets treat it like one dont think over thousands of years horses never had to swim to stay alive. plus just like the elderly working in water takes weight off their bones but they can still get the exercise to recuperate if injured.
@codyveitenheimer actually wild horses on islands have swam across wide rivers and are very good swimmers! even though only there head is above water this is no struggle! I agree with PoulnabroneModesty this is therapy! This is NOT animal abuse they do stay alive! Pluse it is only a short distance. and yes it is recuperating the horse

water physical therapy for horse! Man would I love to have had one of these for a horse I worked with a few years back. He was injured in a scuffle with another horse, and we were told he might never do more than walk. He recovered to perfect health, and is as fast as ever, but this would have sped up his recovery!
I worked in the biggest racing stables in the country and we used to swim our horses. It is good for their legs and especially in summer it's easier on them than having to do much in the heat (although we worked them in the morning before it got hot but once in the after noon they would have a bit of a walk). But yeah it's great for them especially with bad legs.
does anyone know if swimming would help speed up recovery after having laminitis cause i dont know whether it would or not so if anyone knows please tell me
lol horses love swimming the wild, this horse was proberbly a race horse..they do this to them to help relax their muscles to remove tension, let them excersize their legs without wearing out and doesnt cause pain etc..if he didnt like it he would have struggled, thrash out his legs, toss his head to get rid of the headcollar ropes or somthing =]=]

wow, wimming must be really good for their muscles and stuff.. maybe i should inquire about it to see if my arabian can use it to get fit for endurance races
It would probably be AMAZIGN to building up endurance in horses... Its nice and low inpact for their legs and it helps with their muscles. I'd see what I could find if i were you
I swim my gelding to get his lungs and muscles up to shape for shows. He goes once a week and does a few laps in the pool...Its suchhhh an amazing way to get them in shape and tests them in way working then for an hour doesnt.
haha. I never really saw a horse swim before. I knew they did it to some horses after procedures so they didn't get disorientated and hurt themselves.
was he injured,...only asking cause my friends quarter horse was injured falling on the ice and this exact therapudic swimming pool was use in his rehabilitation.... they are amazing for rebuilding lost muscel.
Useually the horse was hurt in some way or another and swimming is a good way to get them used to using thier muscles again, and its easier than walking. Swimming is also a great way to excersise and build muscle even if the horse isn't hurt. And sometimes the horse in question just likes swimming, I mean not many people, dogs, or horses mind swimming if its hot.
me and my sister and our horses go to the river, which is about a 5 minute drive from our house, we trailer out in the summer and swim them... I love to swim on them. It feels so awesome. We stand on their backs and stuff... it's so much fun
cool aww bless him. tehat what my horse need ahtiugh he is scared of the hose lool! x :D have u seen the ones thatg ht e ogse stand on the4e floor ande the floor goes down with the ohrse so they ahve to swim htere cool. so if your horse dont like water and u wanna try him out on one chuck him on one fo them he has no choice lool x great video x

To help keep his head stable. It works better with two people. And its safer also.

Nja. Bij sommige paarden die geblesseerd zijn geweest wordt het gebruikt als therapie. Wij hebben op stal een vijver. In de zomer zie je wel enkele paarden vrijwillig zwemmen.

wow, wimming must be really good for their muscles and stuff.. maybe i should inquire about it to see if my arabian can use it to get fit for endurance races
sunibuni7 3 years ago 4
It would probably be AMAZIGN to building up endurance in horses... Its nice and low inpact for their legs and it helps with their muscles. I'd see what I could find if i were you

Thats so adorable :D
haha. I never really saw a horse swim before. I knew they did it to some horses after procedures so they didn't get disorientated and hurt themselves.

what is the point of this exactly...im not saying its bad or its wrong just what purpose does it serve?
MegS109 3 years ago
Useually the horse was hurt in some way or another and swimming is a good way to get them used to using thier muscles again, and its easier than walking. Swimming is also a great way to excersise and build muscle even if the horse isn't hurt. And sometimes the horse in question just likes swimming, I mean not many people, dogs, or horses mind swimming if its hot.

i never even knew people did that...that pool must be expensive...thanx for telling me!

me and my sister and our horses go to the river, which is about a 5 minute drive from our house, we trailer out in the summer and swim them... I love to swim on them. It feels so awesome. We stand on their backs and stuff... it's so much fun
