I can't really comment regarding how well she sang in Mandarin (not knowing it myself) but I do think it's awsome she learned to do so just for that sequence. That role was important for her career and I think she earned that role.

There's a reason for the controversy about which language (or languages) Capshaw is singing in.

The reason is that native speakers of several languages are finding it impossible to make out her words.

Don't get me wrong. I LIKE the inclusion of this song and dance number in TOD. I chuckled all the way through it at the premier. I LIKE Capshaw's singing voice. She's surprising good.

I'm merely saying that listeners can't tell what language she's speaking.
