A Catholic funeral for a man who wasn't Catholic? He should have been excommunicated years ago. I'm not addressing Ted Kennedy the person, but his actions that defied Catholic teaching and therefore, he should not have been given a Catholic funeral/burial - UNLESS there was a last-minute conversion on his part and he was reconciled with the faith, which we will probably never know.

People are so ready to hate, but i thank you Jesus for your love and mercy and i wish all my brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ peace and true happiness. i also am sorry for the loss of our older brother in Christ Jesus, Sen, Kennedy, our loss is heavens gain. We can not believe everything we see or hear but what we do see or hear may we learn from it. Also may we learn to forgive and love and make a difference in the lives of those in our life. Ted Kennedy proved that if you have enough money & influence you can literally get away with murder. Mary Jo Kopechne death is the direct result of Ted Kennedy’s cowardice, alcoholism & a lack of character. He destroyed her life & the life of his first wife Joan with his immoral, adulteress, reckless, irresponsible behavior. A man of privilege who abused his position & was a detriment to America. He is now where he belongs.

@crusades0917 hank you for saying this. Very few people had the courage to really speak the truth about him. He did many great things while he was alive. But, he also did all that you mentioned and more. People have conveniently forgotten about the lives that he destroyed and how he abused his position in government.
The New York Times has done us a great service by making this available to all. Kudos to what is (and, always has been) IMHO the greatest newspaper on earth.
Let he who has not sinned throw the first stone. May God bless this man for being an advocate for the poor.
