  • 3 questions...

    How large is your layout?

    How is everything powered?

What type of track are you using?

  • @FECRWY This video is old and the layout is much different today. See recent videos.

600 feet of track. (this old video was about 100 feet)

powered with DC track power, battery cars and I run live steam.

    Stainless steel track.

  • Great sound!

  • Where did you get the mallet? Icould only find one priced around 900$ w/o sound.

  • there will be a new run being deliveried early June. Check at RLDHobbies to preorder. Less than $600.

  • Are the engines aristocraft?

  • Yes, all these are Aristo. I also have some MTH, Bachmann, Usa Trains, LGB and some live steam. Check out my other 60+ videos.

  • nothing personal but how much did those engines cost

  • with sound, about $800

  • hmm Baltimore and Ohio with a CN car on it....seems kinda out of place. Otherwise nice train, good video too.

  • An American Mallet usually designed for double expansion whereas a Big Boy used single expansion. Basically its two slightly different ways of making steam, They are both articulates, which means the their forward set of drivers were made to pivot.

  • your train is pretty cool. oh and im jaycen.

  • I am so glad someone finally said that. Can you imagine the train crew having to wear a crush dummy protection gear.

  • Nice railway and nice to see trains running at a proper speed. So many on you tube seem to run at a scale 320 mph. Even 0-4-0 switches. 5*

  • better one in nanton, alberta. now lets see if you US people can find out what country thats in.

  • How is it Powered ?? Please .

  • 18 volts thru track.

  • For those discussing the engine type, that is a USRA 2-8-8-2 built during WWI. It is a Mallet which is used to describe 'articulated compound steam' locomotive which was patterned after the Norfolk and Western 'Y-3'.

  • Looks great!

  • is that train real?

  • if you actually read the name of the video, you could figure that question out really easily.

  • its a 4-8-8-2

  • This is my video and I own two of these trains and they are 2-8-8-2 Mallet

  • okay it just looked like it in the vid

  • @NorfolkWestern34 hey genius trainman is right it is a 2-8-8-2

  • that is a 4-6-6-4 challenger from what can see it has not enough wheels to be a mallot. i do wonder how he keeps the track from weathering.

  • that looks like a bigboy thats wat they call it

  • No, that 2-8-8-2 is a Mallet.

  • @trainman24 Mallet is the generalization of engines with more than one set of drivers, Big boy, challenger, N&W Y6e, all of these would be called Mallet. and i think this is a Y3, to be classed.

  • sounds great!

  • Is this an earlier video of your layout before you laid out the dual mainlines with bridges and tunnels, or is this a different location?

  • This is first track layed at same location

  • GREAT pieces!! But you GOTTA build a bigger layout!!!

  • my grandfather has a smaller loco with steam function for indoor!

    way faster^^

and all the moving parts look as cool^^

  • very nice loco trainman24

  • Nice trains

  • carnt it go fastter if it can put a nuver vidio on

  • these models cost hundreds of dollars..i know a big boy ho scale runs between 200-1000+$ i dont think with an invesment like that you'd run it "full power",unless its a safe long straight section.not to mention parts for these rare models are scarce so to have it break would be horrible.

  • you should have 2 tiny guys runnin it and it should be a real steam functioning model! Now that would be cool!

  • Check out my videos of "Live Steam, parts 1 thru 3

  • G-Scale looks pretty good but o-gauge is good cuz its not to big or small. But if you have a tunnel for it and it recks in the tunnel you've got trouble!

  • what do you do bout rain?

  • Is that the big Boy??

  • No. It's a 2-8-8-2 Mallet

  • nice looking engine you have there

  • One of your cars has Susquehana on it. I have family near that river.

  • U NEED BALLAST ON THAT TRACK

  • man that horn thats amazeing it sound like an amazon fighter call wow!!!!!!!!

  • yes smoke would be an nice adition

  • Yes, purple smoke shall suffice!

  • Your track must me new if you can run that slow.

  • It is now 3 years old and still can move slow due to stainless steel rails and Pulse Width Control power.

  • and a light...many thanks

  • i need smoke

  • i almost fell asleep till you got faster

  • well i will eat my engineers cap

  • wow

  • You can order the Phoenix sound system for a particular loco such as a Mallet, Dash 9, Gp40, etc or you can buy the optional programing kit and load sound from library and then customize it.

  • Radio control transmitter and reciever also can be triggered by exceeding a predetermined track voltage setting programed into the sound board

  • is there any specific one you use or did it come with the phoenix sound system...i have g scale...looking to put some sound into it

  • ,,where on line can I purchase a radio control transmitter??

    tnx, JIM

  • how do u set the whistle off?

  • Trainman24! What sound system did you install in your mallet? Phoenix, Sierra...?

  • Phoenix!

  • Thanks! Now I know which one to put in mine!!!

  • This one is nice.

  • Awesome engine and coal car!

  • Awsome love the reading and northern hopper:)!!

  • way cool , is that a2-6-6-2 mallet?

    fucking nice

  • Close, it is 2-8-8-2 Mallet. I will have two running this summer. The new one is Great Northern RR, this one is B&O.

  • I noticed

    that's a N&W hooter whistle.

  • Your video is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's railway centenary tobacco cards and a short clip of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch miniature railway.

  • Very nicely done!! Great sound, VERY realistic Great job all around

  • Whoa! That's a nice engine. It's funny, because I live 5 minutes away from the Illinois Railway Musuem and they have a simliar mallet like yours except of course it's life sized and from the Norfolk and Western.

  • I watch this video over and over 'cuz I love the cills that whistle sends up my spine.

  • Sounds like it has a N&W "hooter" whistle. EM-1s were fantastic steamers. The B&O was supposed to save one for the B&O Train Museum. It didn't happen... :(

  • That is definately an N&W "Steamboat" whistle!!!

  • 4ft min radius is required. I like 7ft, smoother transition in & out of turns. As far grades, try to stay below 3%, my next line will be 2% or less, this one is 0%.

  • What radius turns are needed for a mallet, I am currently drawing out on a site plan the track and want to have wide enough turns for a locomotive just a little smaller than that... Right now the max grade is 2.7% on the shortcut and 2.3% max on the lead to the bridge... Is that too steep?

  • i....is....is that brass???

BTW Sweet loco man. you are lucky!!!

  • No, but Aristocraft makes a nice PRR Brass caboose for about $300.

  • Oh man when that thing goes tooot, hehehe, my wife is scared now that I will want one.
