everyone is allowed their opinion. I personally find the stories of most RPGs very enrapturing, and I enjoy the character development that usually accompanies the storyline. Lost Oddesy for example has AMAZING character development. As for oblivion, i just loved the very idea of having a world like that to roam freely around. True gaming freedom, all beit at the cost of a deep storyline, as instead of following the story, more or less you write your own.
Everyone is allowed their opinion, but that doesn't mean they are right or good. Opinions are not all equal.
What I have goes beyond opinions on RPGs. I have theories about the game design. I am attempting to assert factually that RPGs are a flawed genre. My theory may be incorrect, and even if it is correct, it doesn't mean people can't enjoy them.
Whenever someone says stuff about 'opinions', my blood boils. People treat opinions like shields. Sorry for taking this ire out on you though.
no worries, and its true that people can hide behind the word opinion, so I agree with you. Also your quite right in the video about the linear nature of the morality system.
I never meant to challenge what you were saying, i was simply pointing out that I enjoy RPG's and was listing my reasons as to why. For my part, I simlpy regard RPG's as an excellent book or movie that has some combat and minigames thrown in :P
Also, oblivion ad no MP due to the 24 hour clock and waiting function.
Yeah, I never really mean to imply that people shouldn't enjoy them. I mean, I enjoy things that are sub optimal -- sometimes legitmately (I love the Eragon books for example). Fun cannot be scientifically quantified. It just is.
it can definitely be argued that Squall didn't have character, i can see how that can come about. i love ff8 but i believe that "the silent MC" can be created poorly and Squall is probably a fence-sitter for me on this topic.
